1 Claim.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in the art of presses, the principal object of the invention being to provide a high capacity press at the lowest possible cost and without requiring special costly equipment.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a press of the character stated which will be simple in construction and simple to operate.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 represents a front elevational view of the press.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view taken substantially on the line 33 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a horizontal sectional view taken substantially on the line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of one of the work supporting plates.
Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numerals 5, 5 denote a pair of upwardly converging posts which are bridged adjacent their upper ends bychanneled members 8, 8. The lower flanges of the channeled members 6, 6 are bridged by a plate 1.
A channeled member 8 is interposed between the posts 5, 5 a substantial distance below the plate 1 and the ends of this channeled member 8 have downturned tongues 9 riveted or otherwise secured as at II] to the posts 5.
A pair of guide rods II, II extend downwardly from the plate 'I and through openings in the bottom of the channeled member 8 where they are threaded and equipped with nuts I2.
A hydraulic jack supporting plate l3 having openings in the end portions thereof for receiving the rods H, II, is vertically movable on the rods, and compression springs M are provided on the lower portions of the rods H, H and interposed between the channeled member 8 and the plate 13 so as to normally maintain the plate l3 and. a hydraulic jack l5 mounted thereon in the elevated position .shown in Figure l. Extending downwardly from the bottom of the plate I3 is a plunger l6 which extends through an opening in the intermediate portion of the channeled member 8, and when the hydraulic jack I5 is operated, the plate I3 will be moved downwardly, carrying with it the plunger I 6 against work supported on slats or plates I! straddling channeled members l8 bridging the posts 5, 5.
As can be seen in Figure 1, additional channeled members l9 bridge the lower ends of the Having described the invention, What is claimed as new is:
A press comprising a vertically disposed frame having a top, a work supporting cross member supported by the frame, an intermediate cross member between the work supporting cross member and the top, a pair of guide rods extending from the intermediate cross member upwardly to the top, a plate having openings therein receiving the rods, said plate being slidable on the rods, a plunger depending from the plate, said intermediate cross member having an opening therein through which the plunger is movable, compression springs on the guide rods interposed between the plate and the intermediate cross member, and a jack mounted on the plate and having an extensible element operative
