Description

No. 226,239. Patented April 6,1880.
MPETERS FHOTOJJTHOGRAPHER. WASHINGTON. n. C.
PATENT Trice.
HENRY O. MARSH, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
AIR-PAD FO SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters R HARNESS.
Patent No. 226,239, dated April 6, 1880,
Application filed September 8, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY G. MARSH, of the city of Baltimore and State of h Iaryland, have invented a certain Improved Air-Pad for Harness, of which the following is a specification and I do hereby declare that in the same is contained a full, clear, and exact description of my said invention, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
My invention relates to an improved article of manufacture, consisting of a harness air-pad having an inflating-nozzle, a central connecting strap or tongue and end straps, arranged for attachment as hereinafter shown and described.
The object of this invention is to increase the elasticity of the padding commonly employed in saddles and collars, and to prevent galling of riding and draft animals, usually from the padding being hard or warm.
In the description of the said invention which follows reference is made to the accom panying drawings, forming a part hereof, and in which- Figures I and II are, respectively, a side and a front view of a harness-saddle to which my removable inflated pad is applied. Fig. III is an exterior view of the pad removed from the saddle. Fig. IV is an exterior view of a collar, showing the application of my improved inflated pad thereto.
Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts in all the views.
Referring to Figs. I, II, and III of the drawings, A is the saddle, and B the removable .inflated pad, which is secured to the saddle by means of the straps (l, a. O is the valve to be used in inflating the pad; and in order to prevent the said valve from coming into contact with the animal it is drawn out of its natural position and secured, by means of a strap, 1), to the check-rein book 0.
- In Fig. IV the pad is shown as applied to a collar, and it is secured by means of straps, as before described.
I am aware that it is not new to combine with a saddle an inflated pad, and such com bination I do not claim, broadly; but
What I do claim as new, and wish to secure .by Letters Patent of the. United States, is
As an improved article of manufacture, the harness air-pad B, having an inflating-nozzle, and the central connecting strap or tongue, I),
and the end straps, a, all arranged for attachment, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name this 9th day of July, A. D. 187 9.
HENRY G. MARSH.
