Description

W- i 1 941. J. I. BURNHAM EIYAL 232561 3363 LOOM Filed June 12, 1940 ENVENTGRS R. BARKER ff g; .5 JAMES Patented Nov. 4, 1941 LOOM James I. Burnham and Samuel P. Parker, La Grange, Ga., assignors to Callaway Mills, La Grange, Ga., a corporation of Georgia Application June 12, 1940, Serial No. 340,009
6 Claims.
This invention relates to looms and more particularly to means for leveling the heddle eyes in a loom provided with a jacquard head.
An object of the invention is to provide a device which will facilitate leveling the heddle eyes.
In actual practice the warp is drawn in through the heddle eyes and the heddles are attached to the jacquard hooks by means of neck cords. Prior to starting the loom it must be determined that all eyes are on the same level, otherwise an uneven shed will be formed which would interfere with the travel of the shuttle and thereby cause a number of fabric defects.
Another object of the invention is to provide such a device which is simple to construct, easily applied to any type of loom and simple to operate.
Other objects, advantages and novel features of the invention will be apparent from the following description of the illustrative embodiment shown in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a loom showing the eye leveling device in position;
Fig. 2 is an end view of the leveling device; and
Fig. 3 is a front view of the leveling device.
Fig. 1 illustrates a portion of a loom adapted to be equipped with a jacquard head comprising the usual side girts l and I l, arch l 2 and comber board l3. The comber board is shown attached to the arch.
The leveling device comprises a bar l4 extending transversely of the loom and just in front of the space to be occupied by the heddles. The bar [4 is shown provided with lugs l5 and [5. The lugs are adapted to support the bar on the loom sides. Fig. 1 shows only one heddle IT in position. It is understood however that all the heddles will have been drawn in and the figure is only for purposes of illustration. The heddle is urged downwardly by means of a weight or lingo l8.
Bar M has attached to it a member such as block l9. Block [9 is provided with a hole only slightly larger and of the same configuration as a cross-section of bar l4. Bar I4 is passed through this hole and in this manner block I9 is slidably mounted on bar l4. Some fastening means such as a set screw 2| on block l9 may, if desired, be provided to hold block I9 in any desired position on bar I4.
A generally L shaped rod is shown mounted on block l9 and is preferably vertically slidable. The rod 22 passes through an aperture in block I9 and may be held in any vertical position by means of set screw 23. The horizontal portion of the rod transversely movable member, adapted to be held 22 is shown bifurcated at 24 and of such length as to be capable of engaging heddles ll.
In operation, the L shaped member 22 is placed in the desired position, the heddle I1 is placed between the prongs of the bifurcation of member 22 and drawn upwardly by means of the usual neck cord 25 until the lingo l8 engages the lower portion of the bifurcation 24. having previously been passed through the comber board I3 is now made fast at its upper end to its jacquard hook, not shown.
While only one embodiment has been shown provided with a jacquard head comprising a' transversely movable member, adapted to beheld fixedly at certain desired positions, means to support said member at a constant level, and a vertically movable member carried by said first named member, adapted to be held fixedly at certain desired positions and adapted to engage the heddles of said loom.
3. A device for leveling heddle eyes in a loom provided with a jacquard head comprising a transversely movable member, adapted to be held fixedly at certain desired positions, means to support said member at a constant level, and a generally L shaped vertically movable member, carried by said first named member, the horizontal portion of said L shaped member being adapted to be held fixedly at certain desired positions and adapted to engage the heddles of said loom.
4. A device for leveling heddle eyes in a loom provided with a jacquard head comprising a transversely movable member, means to support said member at a constant level, and a generally L shaped vertically movable member, carried by said first named member, the horizontal portion of said L shaped member being bifurcated and adapted to engage the heddles of said loom.
5. A device for-leveling heddle eyes in a loom provided with a jacquard head comprising a The neck cord' fixedly at certain desired positions, means to support said member at a constant level, and a generally L shaped vertically movable member, carried by said first named member, the horizontal portion of said L shaped member being bifurcated and adapted to engage the heddles of said loom.
6. A device for leveling heddle eyes in a loom provided with a jacquard head comprising a horizontal bar supported by said loom, a member 1 slidably carried by said bar, locking means to hold said member in a fixed position, a generally L shaped vertically slidable member carried by said first named member and locking means to hold said vertically slidable member in a fixed position, said last named member having a horizontally disposed bifurcated portion adapted to engage the heddles of said loom.
