Description

Aug. 12, 1941. w. F. BEVILL TIME RECORDER AND KEY mum Filed April 17, 1940 Inventor WEI/z'awFfiew'lZ A iiorneys Patented Aug. 12, 1941 UNITED STATES PATET OFFER 2 Claims.

The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in key holders embodying a chain on which a plurality of keys may be attached, and the primary object of the present invention is to provide an indicating mechanism adapted to record the time at which a person has parked his automobile in front of a parking meter, whereby to ascertain when a predetermined period of time has expired.

A further object of the present invention is to provide a time indicating attachment for key chains of this character which is of simple and practical construction, neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.

Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevational view.

Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view taken substantially on a line 22 of Figure 3.

Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view taken substantially on a line 33 of Figure 2.

Figure 4 is a plan view of one of the time indicating disks, and

Figure 5 is a fragmentary perspective view of a modified spring construction.

Referring now to the drawing in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numerals 5 and 6 designate a pair of metal plates, preferably of oval form, and between which are positioned the disks designated at I, 8 and 9, each of the disks having a central opening for-med therein for receiving rivets or screws I l rotatably supporting the disks in position between the plates, said rivets or screws further connecting the plates against separation.

The rivet designated at [2 is of tubular form and has its edge portion upset as shown at I 3 against the outer surfaces of the respective plates.

One longitudinal edge of the plate is provided with a plurality of shallow recesses i4 exposing an edge portion of the respective disks. The peripheral edges of the disks are notched as shown at 15 and one surface of the disks are provided with numerals l adapted to register with the window openings ll formed in one of the plates.

The numerals on the disk I read consecutively from 1 to 12 inclusive to represent the hours of the day, while the numerals on the disk 8 read from 0 to 5 inclusive to represent each ten minutes of an hour, while the numerals on the disk 5 read from 0 to 9 inclusive to represent portions of an hour in units or minutes.

A chain designated at i8 is adapted for insertion through the tubular rivet I2, the end of the chain being secured by conventional form of fastening device it. The chain is adapted to hold keys thereon.

The disks are provided with a concentric row of recesses 20 adapted for receiving a projection 27 on the end of a spring finger 25 struck from an intermediate plate 23, the spring working through an opening 25) in said intermediate plate. The inner surface of the side plate 5 is pressed outwardly to form recesses 23 to permit the necessary movement of the fingers when the disks are rotated. A spring washer 22 urges the disks against the intermediate plate.

Accordingly, the disks may be set to indicate a predetermined time, such as 7:10 oclock, as shown in Figure 1, to serve as a reminder of the time of a certain event, as for instance, the time a person parks his automobile in a parking area, and thus enable the motorist to ascertain the expiration of his allotted time.

It is believed the details of construction and manner of use of the device will be readily un derstood from the foregoing without further detailed explanation.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:

1. An indicating device comprising spaced parallel plates including a pair of side plates and an intermediate plate, a plurality of disks positioned between the intermediate plate and one side plate having indicia displayed thereon, means carried by the plates for rotatably supporting the disks, said disks having recesses in one face thereof and spring fingers carried by the intermediate plate for releasable engagement in said recesses to prevent idle rotation of the disks, the other of said side plates having pockets to accommodate the fingers during movement thereof.

2. An indicating device comprising spaced parallel plates including a pair of side plates and an intermediate plate, a plurality of disks positioned between the intermediate plate and one side plate having indicia displayed thereon for designating a predetermined period of time, means carried by the plates for rotatably supporting the disks, and including a tubular member, an endless flexible member freely inserted in said tubular member, said disks having recesses in one face thereof and spring fingers carried by the intermediate plate for releasable engagement in said recesses to prevent idle rotation of the disks, the other of said plates having pockets to accommodate the fingers during movement thereof.

l/VILLIAM FRAIIKLIN BEVILL.
