1 Claim. (01. 62-447) The invention relates. to .a cooler and more especially to a beverage cooler and dispenser.
The primary object of theinvention is the provision of a device of this character wherein the same involves what maybe termed a cartridge which can be readily separated from a dispensing fixture andwhen attached will be located in a refrigerant or ice chamber or a refrigerator compartment so that its contents can be cooled prior to the dispensing of the same, the device being more sanitary than cooling coils and assures a cooling with dispatch.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character wherein on separation thereof from a dispensing fixture it can be easily and thoroughly cleaned, being of a construction to prevent a beverage from flowing too freely and results in a better drink properly cooled.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this. character wherein the same can be relieved of congested air to assure the filling thereof with beverage and the proper flow of the same when dispensed and is of a. construction to enable the same to be conveniently placed within a refrigerating compartment or the like.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, which is simple in its construction, thoroughly reliable and efficient in operation, assuring the cooling of liquid for drinking consumption, thoroughly sanitary, and inexpensive to manufacture and install in a flow conduit for dispensing the liquid.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in. the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevation partly in section of the device constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical sectional view through the upper portion of the device.
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 2 through the lower portion of the device.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view through a cooling or refrigerating box showing the device arranged in association therewith.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing. Y
Referring to the drawing in detail, A designates generally the device constructed in accordance with the invention and may be termed a beverage cartridge involving an elongated cylindrical body 10 having reversely tapered upper and lower ends II and 12, respectively, and adapted to be accommodated within the cartridge for liquid to be cooled and dispensed in a. manner presently described.
The upper tapered end I I is formed with a nipple both externally and internally threaded, the
nipple being denoted at [3 for separable connection with a coupling union M of a dispensing faucet l5, which is valved to regulate and cut oii? flow thereto, the valve being generally indicated at It, and is hand operated.
On the lower tapered end I2 is swiveled a coupling H for connection with an inlet pipe I8 which supplies liquid to the interior of the cartridge A. This liquid introduced is conveyed upwardly within the body ID by a pipe I9, which rises within the body ID to an uppermost point thereof and is formed with a laterally-turned tip 2|] for delivering the supply of liquid into the body I0 at a high or elevated point therein, This pipe I9 has fluid-tight connection with the body ill at the lower tapered end I2 next to the coupling l1.
Fitting the nipple I3 is a depending pipe 2|, which extends downwardly within the body In into a lower point therein and i formed with a laterally-bent tip 22. The pipe 2| communicates with the faucet I5 and delivers liquid contained within the body I0 thereto for the dispensing of said liquid thereby.
Below the internal threads of the nipple I3 is an annular flange l3, The upper end of the pipe 2| is provided with a laterally turned flange l4 resting upon the flange l3. Screwed within the internal threads of the nipple I3 is a tap I5, which clamps the laterally turned flange M of the pipe 2| on the flange 13. The tap I5 is provided with a central opening 16 communicating with the pipe 2|.
In the use of the cartridge A when within a dispensing conduit for liquid, for example, beverages to be drunk, the body 10 is placed within a. refrigerant, in this instance, cracked ice 23 contained within a receptacle, as, for example, a box, a portion thereof being indicated at 24. The lower tapered end I2 of the said body is fluid-sealed with the box 24 at its bottom so that the cartridge A assumes an upright vertical position to be surrounded by the cracked ice 23 for the cooling of the contents of the body Ill prior to the dispensing of such contents through the faucet I5.
At the upper tapered end H and built therewith is a hand valve 25 controlling an air vent 26 leading to the atmosphere from the interior of the body I 0 and this vent is opened by the valve 25 only when the cartridge A is being filled with liquid so as to let out therefrom to the atmosphere congested air within said cartridge. The liquid is admitted to the cartridge A through the tip 20 and discharged therefrom through the tip 22 of the respective nozzle l9 and 2| and such liquid on the cooling thereof is dispensed through the faucet IS.
The body It] by reason of its separation from the faucet l5 and the pipe 3 allows of the easy cleaning of the body NJ to render the same sanitary, there being no waste of liquid when the cartridge A is associated with the faucet I5 and the inlet pipe I 8 for said liquid.
It is of course understood that this cartridge when in association with dispensing equipment can be placed Within a refrigerator or within a receptacle containing refrigerant so that the content of the cartridge A will be chilled or cooled prior to the dispensing thereof, the said cartridge being adaptable for the service of chilled drinking water or beverages.
What is claimed is:
A device of the kind described, comprising an elongated cylindrical body having reversely tapered upper and lower ends, a substantially cup shaped nipple having internal and external threads, a flange within the nipple below the internal threads, a delivery pipe depending within said body and having an annular flange at its upper end for reception within said nipple and seated upon the flange, a central perforated retaining member screwed within the threads of the nipple and engaging the flange on the pipe and tightly seating the same on the flange in the nipple, a dispensing faucet detachably coupled with said nipple, a turn coupling engaging the external threads of said nipple for fastening the dispensing faucet thereto, a supply pipe within the lower end of the body and having a separate connection therewith, said pipe being reversely directed and terminating laterally adja cent to the wall of said body, and a venting device at the upper end of said body.
