Application liehrnary 3, 19%, Sl No. 317,083 in Htaiy February at, 1939 Ci. (Ci. 57-Il29)' This invention relates to a device for holding and centering a body placed on a swiftly rotatsurface [beyond a maximum extent set by a ring or cap secured in a suitable seating of the spindie. A single spring operates the balls through a cone or ball.
The device according to this advantage that the centrifugal force acting on the balls serves to hold the bodies placed on the spindle resiliently centered to an extent, which is the greater the higher the speed of rotation oi the spindle is.
The annexed drawing shows by way of exampie two embodiments of the device according to this invention.
Figure 1 shows an embodiment, in which the radially acting halls are arranged at the end and lower part of the spindle and Figures 2 and 3 show on a larger scale a modified form of the device mounted on the spindle end.
Referring to Figure l of the drawing, H de notes the central part of the spindle, 2 thetouter conical part thereof enclosed between the lower piece 3' and upper piece a, the outer surfaces of which are a continuation of the surfaces of the spindle part 2.
'Zhree openings at 120 bored in the piece 3 as well as in .the piece 3', the upward inclined axes of said holes belong to the same conical surface, the axis of which coincides with the spindle axis. The halls t and ii respectively may he introduced from the outside through said holes.
The balls 3, once on their seats, are pretented from coming out or projecting beyond a.
invention has the from one another are maximum extent set 'by a cap 7 secured to the end of the piece 3 of the spindle and the balls i are likewise prevented from coming out or projecting beyond the desired extent by a ring i mounted in a suitable seating in the piece it under the cone 2 and in continuation thereof,
In the construction shown in Fig. 1 the balls ii are not by a conical surface of a hollow piston 5 provided with a spring relation to the spindle, the balls 4' are likewise actuated by a conical surface of the piston i swift rotation of the spindle.
According to the modified form shown in Figi'rom what and illustrated by way of example without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What I claim is:
1. In a spindle for spinning machines and the like, a centering and holding device for a body placed on the spindle, comp of balls loosely 2. In a vertical spindle and the like, a. holding iincoaxial 3, A spindle for spinning machines and the like, comprising a vertical holding and centering device adapted to hold a body to be placed on said spindle, said spindle being provided with radial openings and with an axial bore, a plurality of heavy balls arranged in a circle and loosely mounted in said axial openings, a single hall displaceably mounted in said axial bore and acting upon said plurality of balls to press them against said body, and a spring arranged in said bore and acting upon said single displaceable ball as to press it between said plurality of balls, the centrifugal action of the rotating spindle iuither tending to force said plurality of heavy loalls against said body.
4.. In a spindle for spinning machines and the like, a centering and holding device adapted to hold a body to be placed on said spindle and comprising a cimular set of heavy balls loosely mounted in radial openings within said spindle. the axes of said openings being inclined and arranged on a, single conical surface, an axial here in said spindle, a single ball displaceably mounted in said axial bore and acting upon said circular set of balls to press them outward against said body, and a spring arranged. in said bore and acting upon said single displsceable ball as to press it between the balls 01 said circular set of balls.
5. A spindle for spinning machines and the like comprising a central rod, a. conical casing said rod, plugs at -=both ends of said wining securing said casing to said rod, said plugs being provided with an axial bore and with radial openings communicatingwith said bore, the ones of said radial openings being inclined and ared on the same conical surface, metal loosely mounted in said radial openings, in means on said plugs for preventing said from projecting outside beyond a predeteed extent, a spring arranged in the anal bore of each of said plugs, and a. member actuated by said spring and acting upon said balls to press them ultaneously outward and against said stopping LUIGI'MARZOLI.
