Patented Jan. 20, 1880.
'0. W. PAOKER. Ice-Cream Freezer.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES W. PAOKER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
ICE-CREAM FREEZER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 223,753, dated January 20, 1880.
. Application filed October 6, 1879.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES W. PAOKER, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ice-Cream Freezers, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to so connect a scraping-bar to the dasher of an ice-cream freezer that said bar will effectually perform the duty for which itis intended, but will yield to inequalities or imperfections in the sides of the can.
My invention consists of the combination of the dasher having arms with a scraping-bar occupying a position in advance of the'arms, and having plates pivoted thereto, and a spring acting on said scraping-bar so as to keep the V edge of the same in contact with the can, and
at the same time permit it to yield and accommodate itself to inequalities, all as hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of the dasher of an icecream freezer with a scraping-barhung thereto in accordance with my invention Fig. 2, a sectional plan on the line 1 2; and Fig. 3, a sec tional plan on the line 3 4.
A is the central web of the dasher, having at the lower end the projecting lug a, which serves as apivot, and at the upper end the shaft I), squared at the top. From one side of the web A projects a series of stirring-arms, (I, connected together at the outer ends by the vertical bar 0, the face of which is inclined, as usual, so as to direct the cream toward the center of the can. From the opposite side of the web A project three arms, f, f, and g, the arms f f carrying pins 71, to which are adapted eyes on plates m, secured to the scraping-bar B. On the end of each of thearms ff are formed lugs n a, which prevent undue movement of the scraping-bar in either direction, but permit such movement of said bar as may be caused by inequalities in the sides of the can, the outer edge of the scraper being always pressed closely against said sides by the ac tion of a spring-plate, w, secured to the bar 13, and bearing against the face of the arm 9 of the dasher.
sliding on the arm g as the bar yields in one direction or the other.
The scraping-bar being arranged in advance of the arms, the pressure of the cream against the said bar has a tendency to assist the spring win maintaining the scrapingedge in close contact with the sides of the can.
I do not claim, broadly, a spring scrapingbar located in advance of the dasher and capable of yielding in order to accommodate itself to the sides of the can but I claim as my invention- 1. The combination of the dasher A, havin arms, the scraping-bar B, occupying a position in advance of the arms, and having plates m secured to it and pivoted to the arms, and the spring-plate 10, combined with the bar and one of the dasher -arms," as described, so as to press said bar against the side of the can but permit it to yield to inequalities therein, all substantially as set fort i 2. The combination of the dasher having arms f, f, and g, the scraping-bar B, located in advance of the arms and having plates m pivoted to the arms ff, and the spring to, secured to the bar B at one end and bearing with its opposite free end against the arm g,
as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHAS. W. PAOKER.
