Description

J. ASHCROFT. Steam Cooking Utensil.
No. 223,267. Patented Jan. 6, I880 WITNESSES mug INVENTOR WWW ' skilled in the art to which it appertains to UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN ASHCROFT, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO SARAH J. ASHCROFT, OF SAME PLACE.
STEAM COOKING UTENSIL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 223,267, dated January 6, 1880. Application filed October 2, 1579.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN Amazon, of the city of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Steam Cooking Utensils; and I do hereby declare/the following to be a full, clear and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of referen ce marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, wherein- Figure 1 is a vertical section of the utensil. Fig. 2 is a top view of the lower compartment.
The object of my invention is to provide a boiler or baker of compact and convenient form to be operated by steam, so that an 'increased heating-surface may be obtained and several articles cooked therein without intermingling of material or odors.-
The nature of my invention consists in the construction of a steam-jacketed boiler divided vertically into compartments, with a close cover and central steam-chamber.
In the drawings, A is aboiler, surrounded by a steam-jacket, D, and provided with a central hollow core, C, placed vertically therein and divided also vertically by walls 9 g, radiating from the central core, C, to the inner wall of the boiler A. A close lid, d, is shown to cover the entire boiler, and is employed in preference to separate lids for each compartment.
In the drawings is also shown a steam-chamber, B, open at the top and fitted to receive and support the jacket, which is supplied through the steam connection K. Provision is made for the escape of the products of condensation by the opening and pipe l.
jacketed boiler is no part of this invention, however.
I have also shown this jacketed boiler surmounted by another boiler, which may be of a like or any other construction, and have so constructed the improved boiler that the steam may be conveyed to the upper boiler by pipes i 1', leading from the jacket of the lower boiler.
Should my improved boiler be used alone or singly, an outer lid should be used over the inner lid, (1, so constructed that it shall inclose the top of the jacket and permit steam to be admitted through perforations h h in the said top of the jacket, to circulate between the two lids, thus surrounding the entire boiler A with steam.
In operation the different compartments of the boiler may be filled with as many different articles of food, respectively, communication being cut off by the lid d, and the steam should then be admitted to the jacketed space D and the core C, the heating-surface of which will form a part of the wall of each compartment and assist in furnishing the required heat.
I make no claim to a steam-jacketed boiler, or to any number of them combined in one apparatus with steam-spaces between them.
lzlavingdescribed myinvention, what I claim to be new is-- A jacketed steam cooking boiler divided vertically into compartments radiating from a central steam heating-cham ber, substantially as described.
Intestimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 2d (lay of 0ctober, 1879.
