'1 Claims. (01. 175-365) This invention relates to vibrators and particularly to electromagnetic vibratory interrupted devices and systems. v
The present application is a division of my 5 prior-filed co-pending application 8. N. 188,245,
filed February 2, 1938.
An object of the invention is to improve vibrator systems and circuits.
Other objects of the invention will be apparent from the following description and accompanying drawing taken in connection with the .appended claims.
The invention comprises the features of construction, combination of elements, arrangement of parts, and methods of manufacture and operation referred to above or which will be brought out and exemplified in the disclosure hereinafter set forth, including the illustrations in the drawing. In the drawing:
' Figure 1 is a diagram of a vibrator circuit embodying features of the invention; and
Figure 2 illustrates a modified circuit arranged according to certain aspects of the invention.
According to the invention improved vibrator systems and circuits are provided for the purposes set forth more fully hereafter.
While a. preferred embodiment of the invention is described herein, it is contemplated that considerable variation may be made in the method of procedure and the construction of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention. In the following description and in the claims, parts will be identifiedby specific names for covenlence, but
- they are intended to be as generic in their application to similar parts as the art will permit.
Figure 1 shows diagrammatically a vibrator and circuit. The vibrator is provided with a pair of magnetizing windings for the paramagnetic core and Dole piece.
According to this arrangement winding 53 is connected to battery 54 through normally closed contacts33, 34. Winding 52 is connected to battery 54 through the upper half of transformer pri- 5 mary winding 55. When these connections are established as shown in Figure 8 windings 52 and 53 will both be energized in such direction as to aid each other in magnetizing the core 22 thereby causing the attraction of reed armature 30. 50 The reed will thereupon swing into a position where reed controlled contacts 31, 39 close, thus short circuiting winding 52. As the reed continues its swing in the same direction the normal- 13*; closed reed-controlled contacts 33, 34 are an opened. This results in a collapse in the flux paratively little current.
through cofl 53 which tends to produce a high voltage across contacts 33, 34. However, at this time short circuited winding 52, which is also in the same flux field, absorbs a considerable proportion of the energy of the decaying field and re- 5 duces the voltage across the opening contacts.
After opening of contacts 33, 34 the reed will swingto the end of its stroke and return, reclosing contacts 33, 34 and continuing its swing in the opposite direction to close contacts 38, 40 after '10 which the cycle is repeated, Both windings 52 and 53 aid in vibrating the reed and, intact, should either coil fail to function, due to failure of its contacts to operate because of high resistance foreign matter between them or for any 15 other reason, the other coil will produce sufiicieat energy to start and vibrate the reed.
The reed vibrations, which alternately close contacts 31, 39 and contacts 38, 40, produce pulses of current from battery 54 to flow first upward 20 through the upper half, then downward through the lower half, of primary winding 55 inducing an alternating potential diiference in the secondary winding 56. Figure 2 shows a circuit which is similar in 35 operation to that of Figure 1 except that rectifier tube 51 is replaced by an additional set of contacts on the reed which serve as a synchronous rectifying means. The reed 44, is suitable for this purpose. The two ends of secondary winding 56 are 40 here connected to contacts 63 and 64 respectively which co-operate with extra contact arms 49 and 62 on the reed to alternately ground the ends of winding 56 in synchronism with the alternating voltage generated therein so as to supply a DC output voltage to terminal 59.
While the present invention, as to its objects and advantages, has been described herein as carried out in specific embodiments thereof, it is not desired to be limited thereby but it intended to cover the invention broadly within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A vibrator system comprising a vibratory switch arm and a single electro-magnet for vibrating said arm, a pair of windings on said electromagnet, a source of electric current, said switch arm connecting one of said windings to said current source in the unattracted position of said arm and disconnecting said winding. in the attracted position of said arm, said arm short circuiting the other of said windings in the attracted position of said arm.

3. An electromagnetic vibratory interrupter system comprising a single electromagnet having a pair of windings d a vibratory armature controlled said elecnon'iagnet, said armature conof co-operating contacts, a current source, the first or" said contact pairs connecting the first of said windings in series said source in the unattracted position of said armature, the second of said contact pairs closing a short circuit across the second of windings the attracted position of said armature, a transformer having a primary and a secondary winding and means connecting said second winding, said current source and at least a part of said transformer primary winding all in series independent of said contacts.
4. An electromagnetic vibratory interrupter system comprising a single electromagnet having a pair of windings, a vibratory reed controlled thereby and a plurality of, interrupter contact pairs controlled by said reed, a. first of said contact pairs being normally closed when said electromagnet is not energized and being opened by the pull of said electromagnet, a current source, said contact pair connecting said source and a first of said magnet windings directly in series whereby to energize said winding from said source, a second of said contact pairs being normally open when said eleotromagnet is not energized and being closed by the pull of said electromagnet, said pair closing a short circuit between the ends of the second of said windings.
5. An electromagnetic vibratory interrupter system comprising a single electromagnet having a pair of windings, a vibratory reed controlled thereby and a plurality of interrupter contact pairs controlled by said reed, a first of said con tact pairs being normally closed when said electromagnet is not energized and being opened by the pull of said electromagnet, a current source, said contact pair connecting said source and a first of said magnet windings directly in series whereby to energize said winding from said source, a second of said contact pairs being normally open when said electromagnet is not energized and being closed by the pull of said electrornagnet, said pair closing a short circuit between the ends of the second of said windings, a transformer having a primary and a secondary winding, one terminal of said current source being connected to the mid-point of said primary winding, said second magnet winding being connected between the other terminal or said current source and one end of said primary winding.

An electromagnetic vibratory interrupter system comprising a single electromagnet having a pair of windings, a vibratory reed controlled thereby and a plurality of interrupter contact pairs controhed by said reed, a first of said contact pa rs being normally closed when said elecnot energized and being opened by id electromagnet, a current source, pair connecting said source and a magnet 'indings directly in series energize said winding from said source, rid of said contact pairs being norma open hen said electromagnet is not energieed and being closed by the pull of said electromagnet, said pair closing a short circuit between the ends of the second of said windings, a transformer a primary and a. secondary winding, one terminal of said current source being connected to the mid-point of said primary windtug, said second magnet winding being connected between other terminal of said current source and one end of said primary winding, said first and second magnet windings being connected to aid each other in magnetizing said electromagnet.

An electromagnetic vibratory interrupter system comprising a single electromagnct having a pair of windings, a vibratory reed vibrated whereby thereby and a plurality-of interrupter contact pairs controlled by said reed, a first of said pairs being normally closed in the rest position of said reed, a second of said pairs being closed responsive to the swing of said reed in the attracted directic thereof and a third of said pairs being closed responsive to the swing of said reed in the opposite direction, a current source and a transformer having a center-tapped primary winding, and current carrying means connecting said current source and said first contact pair and the first or said magnet windings all in series, further means connecting one terminal of said source to the mid-point of said primary winding, further means connecting the second and the third of said contact pairs between the opposite ends of said primary respectively and the other terminal of said current source, and further means connecting the second magnet winding between said other terminal of said current source and the end of said primary winding to which said second contact pair is connected.
