This invention relates to a machine designed primarily for the deglazing of leather shoes, but it is to be understood that a machine, in accordance with this invention, is for use in any connection for which it may be found applicable.
The invention aims to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a machine for expeditiously and thoroughly deglazing shoes.
The invention further aims to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a machine for removing the pigment from out of the leather of a shoe for the purpose of preparing the leather to receive another color of pigment or shoe dye.
The invention further aims to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a machine for the purpose referred to which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, compact, thoroughly efcient in the use intended thereby, readily assembled, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
Embodying the aims aforesaid and others which may hereinafter appear, the invention consists of theV novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understoodithat changes, variations and modifications may -be resorted to which fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.

The machine includes a rectangular base 5 having mounted thereon transversely thereof a prime mover for driving the shiftable elements of the machine. The prime mover is in the form of an electric motor 6 having its shaftl 'I extended at one end, as at 8; such extended end has a grooved pulley 9 fixed thereto and bodily rotating therewith.
Spaced forwardly of the motor 6 and secured upon the base 6 is a riser ||l of rectangular form `which constitutes a support for the lower ends of apair of spaced parallel standards having bearings l2 at their upper ends. The standards Il are spaced inwardly from the ends of and are Xedly secured at their lower ends on the upper face of the riser I0. Mounted onand se- Acuredat their lower ends to the upper face of the riser I0 is a front and a rear post I3, I4 respectively. The lower ends of the posts I3, I4 are spaced inwardly of the front edge of the riser I0. The post I3 is of greater height than and spaced forwardly from the post I4. Mounted upon and suitably secured to the riser I0 is a combined 5 coupling and bracing member I5 for the posts I3, I4. The member I 5 bears against the lower portions of the front side faces and has its ends xedly secured to the posts I3, I4 by the holdfast devices I6. 10
Journaled in and extended from the bearings I2 is a power transmitting shaft I1 having Xed to one of its ends a grooved pulley I8 of greater diameter than and which aligns with the pulley 9. Fixed to the other end of shaft I'I is a disc 15 I9 provided. with 'a crank pin` 2U eccentrically thereof. Travelling around the pulleys 9, I8 is -a power transmission belt 2| to thereby provide on the operation of the motor 6 the driving of shaft Il at reduced speed with respect to the speed of motor shaft 8. On the driving of shaft |'I the disc I3 Will be bodily carried therewith. The disc I9 is spaced inwardly from the posts I3, I4.
The machine includes an operating mechanism 22 for a reciprocatory carrier 23 for a deglazing element 24.` The carrier 23 and element 24 will be more fully referred to. The mechanism 22 is driven from the crank pin 20 and it includes a pitman 25 which is pivotally connected at its inner end to and operated from the crank pin 20. The pitman 25 is connected at its outer end, as at 26, to the rear end of a reciprocatory operator 21 for the carrier 23. The operator 21 is in the form of a slide bar 28 of materially greater length 35 than the distance between the posts I3, I4.
Secured to the inner faces of the posts I3, I4 is a pair ofcombined guide and supporting devices 29, 30 respectively forthe operator21. The device 29 isarrangedagainstthe upper terminal 40 portion of the inner face of the post I3 and aligns with the device 3U. The devices 29, p30 are of like form4 each consisting of a block V3| having its outer face arranged against the inner face of a post I3 or `III and its rear face formedwith a '45 guide-way 32 in the form of a groove extending from one side to the other side 4.of the block 3|. The mouth of the groove is closed by a plate 33 positioned against the rear face of the block 3|. The sides of block 3| andiplate 33 are iiush with 50 the sides of a post I3 or.|l|.A A block 3| and a plate 33 are secured together and to a post I3 or I4 by superposed holdfast` devices 34 arranged above and kbelow a guide-way. The operator 2'I is slidably supported by the block 3|, is `guided55 by the grooves which form the guide-ways and is retained in the latter by the plates 33. The guide-ways 32 are open at each end and align with each other.
The carrier 23 for the element 24 is in the form of a rectangular head 35 having a substantially convexed lower surface 33. The head 35 is provided at the intersection of its transverse and 'lengthwise medians With an opening 31 which extends from the lower surface 35 to the upper surface 38 of the head.
The carrier 23 includes a shank 39 which extends rearwardly from and is integral with the rear end of head 35. The shank 39 is formed of a ilatforward portion 40 of Ilaredcontouriand a dat rear portion 4| of substantially ovoidal contour which merges at its forward end into the' rear end of the portion 40. The portion 4l is of greater width than the operator 21.
The operator 21 has its forward end terminal yportion mounted upon the upper face of the portion 4| of the carrier. The operator 21 and the carrier 33are detachably secured togetherand `for such purpose a clamping structure 42 is provided consisting of a clamp 4blocl; 43 formed with Vahorizontal passage 44 and a vertical passage 45 of` less width than and opening at its bottom into the top of the passage 44. The passages open at the front and rear sides of the block43. The latter is formed with a verticallydisposed screw threaded opening 45 extending from the top of block 43 and communicating at its lower end with the passage 44 through the top of the latter.
The forward terminal -portion of operator 21 is arranged in and extends forwardly from passage 45. The portion 4l of shank 39 is arranged with- 4`in and extends from the passage 44. The operator 21 when arranged relative to the block 43 has its forward terminalportion extend through the passage 45. The carrier 23 when arranged relative toblock. 231has the portion 4l .of the shank 39 extend through the passage44. .The block 43 is arranged in encompassing relation with the forward portion of the operator 21 and the rear portion of the carrier A23and when so arranged the forward portion of the. operator is superimposed with respectto the rear portion of the carrier. The` structure 42 includes an adjustable clamping screw 41, which threadedly engages with the wall of opening 46, has its lower end bearing yonthe top of the operator 21. The screw 4,1'when adjusted inwardly correlates with .the bottom wall of passage 44 for clamping operator 21 and carrier 23 together and to the block 43.
The deglazing element 24 is yieldable, of .arcuate contour and formed of spaced rows 48 of spaced tufts of bristles. The upper ends of the tufts of' bristileof the rows.48 are secured ,in the lower surface. 36 of the head 35 and depend lfrom the latter.

The pigment is taken out of the leather of the shoey by subjecting the shoe upper to the action of the deglazing element 24, when the deglazing fluid is supplied to the latter lduring the reciprocation of the carrier 24 from the operator 21.
The feed of the fluid to the catcher 54 is controlled by the Valve v52. The feed of the fluid to element 24 during the operation of the machine The element 24 provides a. rubthe iluid removes the pigment.
The structure 42 permits of the carrier being readily removed from operator 21 when a change of deglazing element is desired.
What I claim is:
1. In a leather shoe deglazing machine, a hori- Zontally disposed reciprocatory operator, a reciprocatory carrier bodily moving with and detachably connected at its inner end portion tov and extended from the outer end portion of the operator, a deglazing element depending from the outer end portion of and bodily'carried with the carrier, a vertically disposed open top'catcher for a deglazing fluid, said'catcher bodily moving with the carrier and formed with an outlet spout l at its bottom having its lower portion mounted in the outer portion of the carrier and discharging into said element, and controllable means for supplying -a deglazing fluid to said catcher depending into the latter from its open top.
2. In a leather shoe deglazing machine, a horizontally disposed reciprocatory operator,.a carrier bodily movingv with and connected at its yinner end portion to and extended from the outer end portion of the operator, a degla-Zing element det pending from the outer end portion of and bodily carried with the operator, an vopen top upstanding catcher for a deglaZing-fluid, said catcher bodily moving with the carrier and having an outlet spout at its. bottom mounted in the outer portion of the carrier and discharging into said element,

ing an outlet spoutat its bottom mounted in the outer portion of the carrier and discharging into said element, controllable means for supplying a deglazing uid to said catcher, a pair of spaced parallel posts, a pair of aligned combined guide and supporting devices for said operator xedly secured to said posts, one of said posts being of greater height than the other, means at the upper terminal portion of the post of greatest height for suspending said controlling means in laterally extended relation with respect to such post, and said controlling means including a depending ilexible iluid feed pipe extending in and discharging the fluid into said catcher.
4. The invention as set forth by claim 2 having the lower surface of the outer portion of the carrier of` convexed contour, `and said element being secured in and depending from said surface and being of arcuate contour.
5. The invention as set forth by claim 3 having one of said combined` guide and supporting devices located on the inner face of the post of greatest height intermediate its end and the other one of the said combined guide and supporting devices located on the upper terminal portion of the inner face of the other one of said posts.
6. In a leather shoe deglazing machine, a horizontally disposed reciprocatory operator, a carrier bodily moving with and connected at its inner end portion to and extended from the outer end portion of the operator, a deglazing element depending from vthe outer end portion of and bodily carried with the carrier, an open top upstanding catcher for a deglazing fluid, said catchr bodily moving with the carrier and having an outlet spout at its bottom mounted in the outer portion of the carrier and discharging into said element, controlling meansV for supplying a deglazing fluid to said catcher, the outer portion of said operator disposed in superimposed relation with respect to the inner portion of the carrier, and a means encompassing the said portions of the operator and carrier for clamping such portions together.
7. In a leather shoe deglazing machine, a horizontally disposed reciprocatory operator,` a carrier bodily `moving with and connected at its inner end portion to and extended from the outer end portion of the operator, a deglazing element depending from the outer end portion of and bodily carried With the carrier, an open top upstanding catcher for a deglazing fluid, said catcher bodily moving with the carrier and having an outlet spout at its bottom mounted in the outer portion of the carrier and discharging into said element, controllable means for supplyinga deglazing fluid to said catcher, and a pair of spaced parallel stationary combined guide and supporting devices for said operator.

In a leather shoe deglazing machine, a horizontally disposed reciprocatory operator, a carrier bodily moving with and connected at its inner end portion to and extended from the outer end portion of the operator, a deglazing element depending from the outer end portion of and bodily carried with the carrier, an open top upstanding catcher for a deglazing fluid, said catcher bodily moving with the carrier and having an `outlet spout at its bottom mounted in the outer portion of the carrier and discharging into said element, controllable means for supplying a deglazing fluid to said catcher, a pair of spaced parallelstationary combined guide and supporting devices for said operator, means for'suspending said controlling means above the operator and carrier, and said controlling means including a depending ilexible fluid feed pipe having its lower terminal portion arrangedin said catcher for discharging fluid therein.
