UNITED STATES PATENT QEEIoE.
MORGAN H. SLY, OF SHEPARDSVILLE, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINATION-TOOLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 221,622., dated November 11, 1879 application filed July 9, 1879.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MORGAN H. SLY, of Shepardsville, in the county of Clinton and State of Michigan, have invented a new and Improved Combination-Tool, of which the following is a specification.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device. Fi g. 2 is a cross-section on line 00 m, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 represents the front of the lower end of one of the handles.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to combine several tools in one for the convenience of the mechanic, farmer, housekeeper, and others.
The invention consists of a screw-driver, nail-puller, wrench, nail-hammer, wire-cutter, riveting-hammer, and pinchers combined in one tool.
A and B represent, respectively, the two handles of the tool, which are pivoted together by the rivet a. The lower end of A is prolonged into a screw-driver, O, which may be cast with the handle, as a part of it, or be separately constructed and afterward attached. This handle is of a rectangular section, and is provided with groove 1) on one side, in which is engaged the tongue 0 of the slide D, which is movable up and down in the handle, and which forms the lower jaw of the wrench E, of which the nail-hammer Fforms the upper jaw. As the handle is of rectangular section, and as the slide fits itclosely, it is obvious that the latter cannot turn. The slide is also furnished on its inner face with teeth d, that, by
engaging in the opposite fixed teeth f on the handle'B, hold the lower jaw of the wrench in any desired position.
The upper part of this handle A isprolonged at a,right angle from the handle, and fashioned into a flat-pointed riveting-hammer, G, and into the upward-projecting toothed jaw g of the pinchers H, while the opposite jaw, h, of the pinchers is the upward prolongation of the ban dle B, whose other extremityis fashioned into a nail claw or puller, I, as shown in Fig. 3.
Just below their point of junction each handle is furnished with a steel blade, 76, with curved and beveled edge, the two forming the wire-cutter K.
The advantages of having these tools combined in one are too obvious to require reciting.
The parts may all be constructed of steel or iron, or of a combination of the two.
Having this fully described my invention,I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The within-described tool, consisting of handles A and B, screw-driver O, slide D, provided with tongue 0' and teeth at, and forming, with nail-hammerF, the wrench E, wrench E, nail-hammer F, rivetin g-ham mer G, pinchers H, nail claw or puller 1, and wire-cutter K, constructed and arranged substantially as herein described.
