UNITED STATI-:s rdTENT orifice REAGENT SIIPHON John B. Haeberlin, Jr., Hillside, Agriz. Application June 2l, 1938, Serial No. 215,040 2 claims. (ci. 1er-2o) My invention relates to feeders for liquids and by t govern the floW 0f liquid therethrough, it it is one of the principaI objects thereof to probeing understood that the gooseneck is spaced a vide a feeder capable of automatically and eensuiiicient distance above the top of the tank when stantly delivering a reagent at e desired and prethe device is initially operated to permit the iloat determined rate of flowto be actuated downwardly in proximity to the 5 Another object of my invention isto provide bottom of the chamber 55 Without the gooseneck a device of the above described character equipped engaging the top 0f the tarlk arid interfering with means for effecting the flow of the reagent With the OperatiOrl there0f i therethrough, The float l@ is of a cylindrical structure in plan l0 A further object of my invention ie to provide and fashioned with a convex upper face l5a 10 a device of the above described character which whereby t0 prevent liquid gathering thereon and is simple in construction, durable in use, eiii- SelVlrlg aS a Weight t0 aetuate Said fl0at ClOWlln cient in operation and economical in manuiac-` Wdrdly- Said fiOa-t l@ iS fOrmed With a eerlieal turing, shaped bore it, the apex of which is located l5 other objeots and advantages Will be apparent adjacent the face ld and in communication` 15 from the following deseription, appended Claims with the tube ll as clearly illustrated in Figure 2 and annexed drawingof the drawing. The conduit i4 is securely at- Reierring to the drawing wherein like refertaChed t0 the erld 0f the tank by means 0f Strapsl ence characters designate like parte throughout ll 0r the like and .the-pipe '3 iS lOOSely Slidthe several views; able within said conduit upon movement of the 20M Figure 1 is a side elevation of my invention, O-at i9 f partly in section illustrating the same in operat- Irl Operatleri, the float iS pOSitiOrled Within the ing position on a tank, or other suitable container. Chamber 5 arid Supported therein byv the liquid Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional View of the and the pipe i3 iS DOSitOrled Within the Conduit 2filoat employed in my device. ld. When the parts are thus positioned, the kfloat 25 Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional View of the S forced dOWhWardlY ih a marmer t0 'force the adjusting means for governing the flow through liquid upwardly through the here I6 and into the the Siphon tube o tube ll thereby initiating the siphoning of the Figure 4 is e, modified form' of my invention, liquid from the chamber 6 into the conduit l il. Figure 5 is a longitndinai seotionai View When the iioat is released, the same will float to 30 through the modied form of iloat illustrating the tOi3 0f the liquid and the siphoning of the the same equipped with a starting device. liquid Contrlllerieure e is a modified form of how adjusting The degree of flow through the tube il may meansy the saine being illustrated partly in Side be controlled by adjusting the pipe i3 relative to elevation and partly in soot-en the end i2 through the medium of the nut l5 to 35 In practicing my invention, I employ a tank either increase the distance between the gooseo portion of which is musi-,rated in Figure 1 of Heek and the lower end of the pipe i3 or decrease the drawing and equipped with an end Chamber the same. The foregoing description and operaformed by a transversely extending partition 1 tion oi the device is that of the preferred embodizo provided With a Communicating aperture adja ment illustrated in Figures l to 3 inclusive. 40 @ont the bottom thereof as indicated at a sup- In the modified form illustrated in Figures 4 ported cn a body of liquid 9, within the tank, arid 5, the fleet 2@ iS DrOVided With a Centrally including said chamber i5, is a iioat l!) secured diSlOOSed and Subjacently extending liquid conto the lower end of an upwardly extending Siphon tainer 2l having a closed lower end fashioned tube it die upper end of said tube being fasnwith au aperture 22 whereby liquid from the 45 ioned with a gooseneck terminating in a downtarlk may bleed therethreugh into the oorl- Wardiy extending Section lg The lower end of tainer. The container is also fashioned with a the section la is threaded and has adjustably Closed top 23a provided with an opening 23 for mounted thereon an enlarged threaded end of'a Slidablr reCeiVihg therethrough the lowerA end downwardly extending pipe i3 extending into a 24 0f the SilihOri tube 25- The lOWer ehd 25 Oi 50 conduit lil the lower end of which communicates the tube iS 0f ah inverted bOWl eOhiiguratiOli for with a receptacle (not shown) or the like. The engagement With the upper erld 0f a COiled Spring enlarged end of the pipe I3 is fashioned with a 26 positioned within the container. yThe lowerv nut linger piece l5 to facilitate adjustment of end of said spring engages the bottom of said the pipe relative t0 the end l2 of the tube wherecontainer and said spring functions to maintain 55 the lower end 24 normally in engagement with the top 23. In order to siphon liquid from the tank, the float is positioned within the liquid and liquid allowed to bleed into the container to fill the same. When the container is thus filled, the container is grasped with the fingers and held stationary and the tube moved downwardly therein against the tension of the spring thereby causing the liquid within the container to be forced upwardly through the bowl shaped end into the tube in the same manner as in the preferred embodiment. the modied form illustrated in Figures 4 and 5,
that the tank 2 is not provided with the partition as in the instance of the device illustrated in Figure l, the weight ol` the container serving to maintain the float 2:!3 in a substantially vertical position as illustrated in Figure 4,
In instances where a glass siphon tube is employed and connected to a discharge pipe, I provide an adjusting means as illustrated in Figure 6 and which comprises a laterally extending bracket 3U secured to the' upper end oi the Siphon tube above the upper end of the discharge pipe 3! and said discharge pipe, is enlarged at said upper end and provided with a laterally extending bracket 32. The bracket 3l! is fashioned with whereby reagents maybe quickly and efliciently siphoned from a tank or other container together with means for regulating the `ilow of said reagent. Y
It is also to be noted, in i What is claimed is:
1. A device of the character described, comprising, a container having a top wall and a bottom wall provided with a bleed opening, a Siphon tube slidably extending through said top wall and having an inverted bowl-shaped end slidable within said container, a oat connected to said container adjacent said top wall and adapted to support said container in suspended condition in liquid within a tank wherebyto permit said liquid to bleed into said container, a spring within said container and engaging said inverted bowl-shaped end and said bottom wall for normally maintaining said inverted bowl-shaped end disposed against said top wall and responsive to pressure of said inverted bowl-shaped end by said tube when actuated towards said bottom wall whereby liquid within said container is forcedupwardly through said tube for discharge without said tank.
2. A reagent Siphon having an elongated-cylindrical-shaped container 'fashioned with an arciform top wall and a bottom wall provided with a bleed opening, an inverted cotyliform member slidably mounted within said container and having its tube slidably extending through said top wall, a iioat carried by said container Subiacent said top wall and adapted to support said container in suspended condition in liquid within a receptacle whereby to permit said liquid to bleed into said container through said bleed opening, a coil spring disposed'within said container and engaging said member and said bottoni ywall for normally maintaining said member seated against said top wall and responsive Ito pressure exerted on said member from without said container to yieldingly permit movement of said member towards said bottom wall whereby liquid within said container is forced upwardly through said member for discharge without said receptacle.
