vlVly invention relates to a dispenser for dispensing powder of various kinds such as tooth powder, talcum powder, or the like and the o-bjects of my invention are:
First, to provide a powder dispenser of this class by which the powder is agitated and at the same time an opening is provided for the release of a small quantity of the powder;
Second, to provide a powder dispenser of this class which provides for a positive dispensation of a regulated quantity of powder at each operation;
Third, to provide a powder dispenser of this class which receives the powder from the usual powder container;
Fourth, to provide a powder dispenser of this class in which the working parts, except the agitator, are in a separate compartment from the powder;
Fifth, to provide a powder dispenser of this class which is positive in its action;
Sixth, to provide a powder dispenser of this class which is easily operated by the thumb and finger of the person using the powder; and
Seventh, to provide a powder dispenser of this class which is very simple and economical of construction, easy to operate, eiiicient in its action and which will not readily deteriorate or get out of order.
With these and other objects in view as will appear hereinafter, my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the characters of reference thereon which form a part of this application in which:
Figure 1 is a top or plan View of my powder dispenser shown positioned on a supporting bracket and with the powder and powder container omitted; Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the same showing the powder container in dash lines in position for its release into the powder dispenser casing; Fig. 3 is a bottom view of the powder dispenser with the cover removed shown on an enlarged scale; Fig. 4 is a bottom view of the powder dispenser with the cover in position; Fig. 5 is a bottom View with the cover removed similar to that of Fig. 3 but showing the dispenser mechanism arranged for releasing the powder; Fig. 6 is a sectional view taken from the line 6-6 of Fig. 3 showing some of the parts in elevation to facilitate the illustration and showing the cover in position; Fig. '7 is a fragmentary sectional view on an enlarged scale taken from the line 'l-T of Fig. 4.

The powder receptacle I, powder receptacle bottom member 2, cover member 3, combined ratchet, pawl and door 4, ratchet wheel 5, rachet spring 6, shaft 1, agitator 8, and supporting bracket 9 constitute the principal parts of my powder dispenser.
The receptacle l is preferably a thin cylindrical member open at its upper end adapted to receive any conventional powder receptacle by turning the same upside down as shown by dash lines in Fig. 2 of the drawing so that the contents will iiow into the receptacle l. lower end with a bottom member 2 which is provided with an annular flange portion 2a which is adapted to t snugly on the inner side Vof the lower end of the receptacle I and is also provided with an outwardly extending flanged edge 2b which extends over the lower edge of the member l as shown best in Fig. 6 of the drawing. This member 2 is provided in one side with a powder discharge opening 2c. This member 2 is also provided with a central opening 2d which forms a journal for a shaft 'l which extends through said member 2 and on opposite sides thereof. Secured on the upper end of this shaft 'l is a revoluble agitator 8 which is adapted to keep the powder agitated in the bottom of the receptacle and substantially scrape the bottom so that the powder will flow freely from the discharge opening 2c when released. This agitator member 8 is provided with a plurality of extended substantially flat leg members 8a as shown best in Fig. 1 of the drawing. Secured to this shaft l below the member 2 and adapted to rest against the lower side thereof is a ratchet wheel 5 which is supported by an integral collar la on the shaft 1, shown best in Fig. 6 of the drawing. Pivotally mounted on the lower side of the bottom member 2 on a pivot pin 4a secured in the bottom member 2 is a combined ratchet pawl and door 4 which is provided with two spaced ratchet detent portions 4b and 4c shown best in Figs. 3 and 5 of the drawing which are positioned on said member 4 on opposite sides of its pivotal support and are arranged to engage the teeth of the ratchet wheel 5 when said member 4 is shifted on its pivotal support. This member 4 is provided with an extended end portion 4d which is adapted to connect with the extended end of 6a of the ratchet spring 6. This ratchet spring 6 is provided with It is provided in its a loop 6b which extends around the pivot pin 4a, then extends to a supporting pin 6c for supporting the extended end of said spring 6. This member 4 is also provided with an extended handleV portion le which extends out past the receptacle l at its lower edge as shown best in Figs. 1, 2, and 5 of the drawing and is adapted to shift the combined ratchet pawl and door. This member 4 is also provided with an extended sliding door portion 4f which is adapted to pass over the discharge opening 2c for closing the same when the combined ratchet, pawl and door member is operated by the handle ie and the spring 6 tends to close said sliding door. This sliding door is provided at its edge with a beveled portion lig tending to force it against the discharge opening 2c and provides for easy operation of the sliding door portion 4f. Mounted over the flanged edge 2b of the bottom member 2 is a disk like cover member 3 which is provided with a central opening 3d which serves as a journal for the lower end of the shaft l and it is supported by the pins lia, 6c and another supporting pin secured in the bottom member 2 designated 3b. It is provided with a discharge opening for the powder which is in conformance with the opening 2c and is positioned immediately below the same designated 3c and is provided with two upwardly extending portions 3d which serve as guides for the powder and the lower side of the sliding door portion (if, all as shown best in Fig. l of the drawing. This member 3 is also provided with an extended handle portion 3e which is a companion for the handle member le on the combined ratchet pawl and door il. This cover member 3 is also provided with a slotted portion 3f in one side adapted to receive a downwardly extending portion of the handle member te which operates in this slot 3f so that by grasping the members 3e and le by the finger and thumb and operating them towards each other and away as shown by dash lines in Figs. 1 and 4 of the drawings, the sliding door member 4f is shifted over and off of the discharge opening 2c and at the same time a ratchet wheel 5 is revolved carrying with it the agitator 8 by action of the detent members ib and @c on the ratchet wheel 5, a small quantity of powder is dispensed through the discharge openings 2c and 3c. This receptacle l may be supported by means of the supporting bracket 9 which is provided with two spring band portions forming a substantially annular band 9ct and b the extended ends of which are provided with a clamp screw 9c which is adapted to clamp the receptacle l rigidly in position. It is also provided with a loop portion intermediate its ends designated Sd which is supported by means of a screw Sie on a disk member 9j to be secured to any vertical support, the loop portion Sd forming a receiver for a glass or other receptacle.
Though I have shown and described a particular construction combination and arrangement of parts and portions I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement, but desire to include in the scope of my invention the construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. In a powder dispenser of the class described, the combination of a receptacle, a bottom for said receptacle provided with a flanged annular downwardly extending portion fitted snugly in the lower end of said receptacle and provided with a discharge opening therein, a cover secured on the lower side thereof provided with a discharge opening therein, a shaft journalled in said bottom member and said cover and extending upwardly through said bottom into said receptacle, an agitator secured on the upper end of said shaft and means for operating said agitator.
2. In a powder dispenser of the class described, the combination of a receptacle, a bottom for said receptacle provided with a hanged annular downwardly extending portion fitted snugly in the lower end of said receptacle, a cover secured on the lower side thereof provided with a discharge opening therein, a shaft journalled in said bot tom member and said cover and extending upwardly through said bottom into said receptacle, an agitator secured on the upper end of said shaft and means for operating said agitator, said bottom member provided with a discharge opening in one side thereof and a combined ratchet pawl and sliding door pivotally mounted on the lower side of said bottom member adapted to cover and uncover said discharge opening.

In a powder dispenser of the class described, the combination of a receptacle, a bottom for said receptacle provided with a anged annular downwardly extending portion fitted snugly in the lower end of said receptacle, a cover secured on the lower side thereof provided with a discharge opening therein, a shaft journalled in said bottom member and said cover and extending upwardly through said bottom into said receptacle, an agitator secured on the upper end of said shaft and means for operating said agitator, said bottom member provided with a discharge opening in one side thereof, a combined ratchet pawl and sliding door pivotally mounted on the lower side of said bottom member adapted to cover and uncover said discharge opening, and a handle member connected to said combined ratchet pawl and door and extending outwardly past the side wall of said receptacle bottom and cover.

In a powder dispenser of the class described, the combination of a receptacle, a bottom for said receptacle provided with a flanged annular downwardly extending portion fitted snugly in the lower end of said receptacle, a cover secured on the lower side thereof provided with a discharge opening therein, a shaft journalled in said bottom member and said cover and extending upwardly through said bottom into said receptacle, an agi tator secured on the upper end of said shaft and means for operating said agitator, said bottom member provided with a discharge opening in one side thereof, a combined ratchet pawl and sliding door pivotally mounted on the lower side of said bottom member adapted to cover and uncover said discharge opening, a handle member connected to said combined ratchet pawl and door and extending outwardly past the side wall of said receptacle bottom and cover, said bottom member provided with a companion handle member.
5. In a powder dispenser of the class described, the combination of a receptacle, a bottom for said receptacle provided with a flanged annular downwardly extending portion tted snugly in the lower end of said receptacle, a cover secured on the lower side thereof provided with a discharge opening therein, a shaft journalled in said bottom member and said cover and extending upwardly through said bottom into said receptacle, an agitator secured on the upper end of said shaft and means for operating said agitator, said bottom member provided with a discharge opening in of said receptacle bottom and cover, said bottom member provided With a companion handle member, and a ratchet Wheel mounted on said shaft with said agitator engaged by said ratchet pawl.
