PATENT OFFICE Application October 12, 1936, Serial No. 105,287 Renewed April 23, 1940 1 Claim.
The invention relates to a screen and more especially to a shale screen.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a screen of this character, wherein the drilling mud or solution is separated from shale, sand and other detrimental particles, leaving the mud or solution clean for the return thereof to a well or hole.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a screen of this character, which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efficient in operation, strong, durable, and inexpensiv to manufacture and install.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which disclose the preferred embodiment of the invention, 2 and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure l is a side elevation of the screen constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is an end view thereof.
Figure 3 is a top plan View.
Figure 4 is a plan view of a modified form of screening tray.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.
Referring to the drawings in detail, particular- 1y Figures 1 to 3, inclusive, the apparatus or device comprises a stand [0 having in its upper por- 35 tion a power box I I, being inclined to the vertical in one direction and opening into the higher end thereof is an entrance spout [2. This spout I2 through a coupling 13 is separably attached to,
an outlet l4 connected to the flow pipe of a well drilling machine. The spout I2 is detachable from the power box H.
A peripherally bladed wheel 15 is rotatably journaled in any suitable manner in the box II for disposing its blades in a flow of material in the said box below the axis of rotation of the said wheel so that the latter will be driven by such flow of material.
Keyed or otherwise fixed to the journal l6 of the wheel I5 are eccentrics IT to which are strapped or suitably connected arms I8, the latter being attached at I9 to a shaking screen tray carried in a support 2|. The tray 20 is suspended by links 22 connected thereto and also to the support 2| so that the said tray will be movably supported at an incline.
Extending from the box H to a desired distance over one end of the tray 2|] is an outwardly flared discharge plate 23 which delivers the material from the said box onto the screen tray.
Built in the support 2| is a catch pan 24 which extends beneath a major portion of the screen tray and is provided with a lateral discharge 25 at one side, the bottom 26 of the pan being inclined from the other side and opposite ends in the direction of the discharge 257 The tray 20 has therein a screening fabric 21.
In Figure 4 of the drawings there is shown a modification, wherein the screening section 28 is longitudinally slotted as at 29 for screening purposes.
. What is claimed is: r
In an apparatus of the kind described, a box having an inclined bottom, a peripherally bladed wheel rotatably journaled in the box for disposing its blades in a flow of material in the box below the axis of rotation of said wheel for the driving thereof by said flow, eccentrics fixed to the journal of the wheel, a shaking screen, a support for the screen, links connecting the screen to the support and movably supporting it at an. incline, an outwardly flared discharge plate extending from the box to a distance over one end of the screen, connections between the screen and eccentrics for shaking said screen, .and a catch pan beneath a major portion of the screen and having a lateral discharge at one side, the bottom of said pan being inclined from the other side and opposite ends in the direction of the discharge.
