Description
H. PRIEDLANDER.
Sponge-Cup.
No. 220,600. Patented Oct.14,1879.
WITNESSES N. PETERS, PNOTO-LITHOGRAP UNITED Srnrns PATENT OFFICE.
HERMAN FRIEDLANDEB, OF MARIETTA, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN SPONGE-CUPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 220,600, dated October 14, 1879; application filed August 23, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, HERMAN FRIEDLANDER, of Marietta, in the county of Washington and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sponge-Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
The figure of the drawing is a representation of a vertical section of my sponge-holder.
The nature of my invention consists in an improved sponge cup and holder combined, as will be full y-described in the following specification, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Referring by letter to. the drawing, A designates the sponge-cup; B, the sponge; G, the sponge-holder, formed with a handle, 0?, and c a Woodemfloat or false bottom which is fitted loosely within the cup A. This cup may be made of glass, metal, or of other suitable material, and also of any fanciful or ornamental configuration.
The sponge is fitted within a recess formed in the base'of the holder 3, and the said holder is flanged, so as to adapt it to be fitted to the cup A, as shown, whereby the sponge may be inclosed, so as to prevent the evaporation of the water with which it is saturated.
The wooden float or bottom 6 is of a concavo-convex shape, and is arranged within the cup with its concavity uppermost, so that when the several parts are together the sponge will extend into said concavity, and thereby be kept from contact with such water as may be at the bottom of the cup A. When, however, the sponge becomes dry by frequent use, the cup may be tilted so that the water will flow upon the sponge and be absorbed thereby.
The above article is employed for dampening stamps and for such other purposes as sponges are ordinarily used for.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- A combined sponge cup and bolder consisting of the cup A, sponge B, sponge-holder (J, and a concavo-convex wooden float, e, fitted loosely within the sponge-cup, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
HERMAN FRIEDLANDER.
Witnesses WM. G. WAY, WILBUR REA.
