A further object of this invention is the production of a simple and efiicient gripping element for firmly holding the comb-cleaning threads against slipping in a manner whereby the threads are prevented from becoming accidentally detached from the supporting medium.

Further objects and advantages of the present invention will be apparent throughout the following specification and claim.

By referring to the drawing, it will be seen that l0 designates the hanger member which is provided with a transversely extending supporting bar H at the bottom thereof, over which the comb-cleaning, threads l2 are adapted tov be folded or overlapped in the manner shown in detail in Figure 3. A clamping member l3 which may be formed of suitable material and spring metal if desired, is adapted to fit over the folded portion ll of the threads I 2, in the manner shown in Figure 3, the clamping member l3 having gripping edges 15 which grip the threads l2 as they pass from under the clamping member I3. This clamping member I3 is preferably of an elongated structure of the length of the bar II, and is adapted to firmly grip the entire transverse area of the comb-cleaning threads or cords l2 at the point where these cords I2 overlie or are folded over the bar I I. This clamping member I3 is adapted to firmly clamp the threads, against the bar I I and the lower edges l5 are also adapted to firmly grip the threads or cords l2 so as to hold these cords against longitudinal slipping and prevent the cords from being pulled out of engagement with the clamping head as the teeth ofa comb are passed between the threads or cords I2 in the "conventional manner. the cords, because of this clamping member l3, will be firmly held at uniform lengths in a manner as shown in Figure 2, and furthermore they will be held against longitudinal pull and dislocation from the head through the medium of this clamping member l3, which clamping member I3 is preferably permanently fixed in position.

It should be understood that in the form shown in Figures 1 and 3 inclusive, the supporting head II and the hanger member ID are preferably of one solid unit, or may constitute one integral part. Furthermore, the clamp I3 is preferably permanently secured or fixed in position.

It should be understood that single strings or threads are used which are folded intermediate their ends over the bar II, and their free ends are allowed to hang loose in the manner shown in Figure 2, thereby'avoiding the necessity of stitching or otherwise securing the strings, strands, threads or cords I2.-

In Figures 4 to '7 inclusive, I have shown a modified type of the invention, wherein a hanger member I6 is illustrated, which hanger member is provided with inturned ends H for supporting a cylindrical or tubular-like head l8, the ends I! The ends of of the hanger member [6 fitting into the ends of the cylindrical or tubular-like head l8. This head I8 is provided with a plurality of perforations I9 throughout the length thereof and a perforatedv clamping member 20 is adapted to fit, over the strands, threads, cords or the like 2|, and thereby hold these strands 2| in firm position upon the head l8. These strands 2! are folded intermediate their ends to overlie and fit around the head l8 in the manner shown in Figures 4 and 5, and in detail in Figure 6, the folded portions 22 of the strands 2| being adapted to fit between the perforated clamp 20 which is provided with a plurality of perforations 23 and the perforated head 18, these perforations providing additional gripping means for firmly holding the threads against longitudinal slipping movement in the manner illustrated in detail in Figure 6. The perforations 23 and the clamp 20 and the perforations IS in the head l8, will provide means whereby the cords or strands will be forced into the perforations of the head and clamp when the two members are assembled, as indicated in Figure 6, thereby providing efiicient clamping means to hold the strands 2| against longitudinal slipping.

It will be noted from Figure 4 that the lower gripping edge of the clamp 2 0 is provided with a plurality of notches 24, which notches provided a roughened or scallop-like lower gripping edge for the clamp.

From the foregoing description, it will be seen that a very simple and efficient comb cleaner has been provided and more particularly that a very eficient means is provided for holding the strands against slipping after they have once become secured to the head. These strands may be removed for replacement at any time it is desired to do so, simply by removing the clamp from the supporting head. It should be noted also that a very simple and efiicient structure is provided which may be produced at a minimum cost.

It is preferable to provide the metal parts of suitable material which will not corrode or become afiected when immersed in water so-as topermit the device to be easily cleansed in a, few moments in a cleansing material such as a soapy solution, without removing the strings from the head.

Having described the invention, what I claim is:

A comb cleaner of the class described comprising a supporting head, a hanger member carrying the head, cleaning strands folded over the head and having their free ends suspended therefrom, a clamping member fitting over the folded portions of the strands for firmly holding the strands upon the head against accidental dis.- placement or slipping movement, said head having a plurality of perforations arranged throughout the length thereof, said clamp also having a plurality of perforations formed therein, the perforations providing means into which the strands are protruded when the clamp is clamped about the threads upon the head and providing a plurality of strand-receiving pockets to hold the strands against longitudinal slipping, said head comprising a" tubular-like member, and the clamping memberhaving a scallop-like gripping edge for firmly engaging the strands at the point where the strands leave the supporting head.
