METAL MOLDING MEANS Aaron A. Laden, Evanston, Ill. Application June 11, 1938, Serial No. 213,122 Claims. (01. 189- 83 My invention relates, generally, to means for covering the adjacent edges of wall boards and the like and it has particular relation to the construction of metal molding for this purpose and means for supporting the same.
Because of the various requirements for the use of metal molding along the edges of wall boards and the like, it is desirable to provide a type of metal molding that is substantially universal in application. Metal molding is employed along the meeting edges of wall boards, at outside and inside corners, as well as along these edges when the wall boards are in the same plane. Also, it is used to provide edging along the edge of a single Wall board.
The object of my invention, generally stated,
is to provide a metal molding that shall be universal in application and which may be readily and economically manufactured and installed.
The principal object of my invention is to so construct metal molding that it will be substantially universal in application.
A further object of my invention is to provide for receiving snap-on metal molding in a novel manner.
Still another object of my invention is to provide spaced apart curved surfaces for receiving and holding snap-on metal molding through the use of a single wire or a plurality of wires welded along the edges of a relatively thin and narrow strip of metal. 1
Other objects of my invention will, in part, be obvious and, in part, appear hereinafter.
Accordingly, my invention is disclosed in the embodiments hereof shown in the accompanying drawing and it comprises the features of construction, combination of elements, and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the constructions set forth hereinafter and the scope of the application of which will be indicated in the appended claims.
For a more complete understanding of the nature and scope of my invention reference may be had to the following description together with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a view, in end elevation, of a track for receiving snap-on mold members;
Figure 2 is a view, in side elevation, of the track shown in Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a sectional view showing a snap-on mold member on the track shown in Figure 1;
Figure 4= is a view, similar to that showni'n Figure 3, with different sizes of retaining members;
Figure 5 is a sectional view showing a track and mold member thereon for an outside corner;
and
Figure 6 is a sectional view showing a track and a mold member for an inside corner.
In Figures 1, 2 and 3 of the drawing, the refer ence character 36 designates, generally, a track for receiving a snap-on metal mold member 3?. The track 36 comprises a thin metal strip 38 to which a pair of wires 39 is spot welded along its edges as indicated at 40. g
The track 36 may be readily constructed by drawing the two wires 39 and the strip Sdfrom suitable reels on which they "may be wound through a suitable die. They are then spot welded as indicated at ii! and the assembled track may then either be cut into short lengths such as six, eight or ten feet, or it may be wound in a coil for shipment as desired.
As shown in Figure 3 of the drawing, the track 36 with the metal mold member 37 mounted thereon is positioned along the juxtaposed edges of wallboards, such as the wallboards 2| and 22 mounted on a wall 23. metal mold member 37 in place, the track 38 is secured in position by suitable nails 4! which extend through the strip 38 and into the wall 23. While the nails ii are indicated as being positioned through apertures located centrally of the strip 38, it will be apparent that they may be located in staggered'relation if desired.
The construction shown in Figure 4 is similar to that shown in Figure 3 except that the wires 42 and 43 that are spot welded on to the strip 38 are of a cliiferent diameter, as illustrated. The metal mold member 3'! may be snapped on to the wires 32 and 43 of a different diameter as shown.
In Figure 5 of the drawing, a construction is provided for an outside corner formed by wallboards 26 and 21 attached to the outside corner of a wall 28. For this construction a track 46 is provided having portions at right angles to each other, and wires M are spot welded along the edges for receiving the metal mold member 28. The track may be secured in position by suitable nails 49 extending through apertures in one leg of the strip 45, as shown.
In Figure '6 of the drawing, a construction is provided for use along aninside corner where wallboards El and 32 are mounted along an inside corner of a wall 33. For this construction a strip 52 is provided, having portions extending at right angles to each other, but bent toward each Prior to snapping the other in place of away from each other as shown in Figure 5. Wires 53 are welded on the edges of the strip 52 for receiving the metal mold member 54. The strip 52 is secured in place by suitable nails 55. v
Since certain further changes may be made in the foregoing constructions and different embodiments of the invention may be made without departing from the scope of my invention, it is intended that all matter shown in the accompanying drawing or described hereinbefore, shall be interpreted as illustrated, and not in a limiting sense.
I claim as my invention:
1. A track for receiving metal molding comprising, in combination, a relatively thin and narrow elongated metal backing member, and a pair of wires extending along and welded to the edges of said backing member onto which the metal molding is snapped. f
2. A track for receiving metal molding comprising, in combination, an elongated metal backing member, and a pair of wires extending lengthwise of said backing member and secured thereto in spaced relation onto which the metal molding is snapped,
