SPINNING DEVICE Original Filed Aug. 11, 1937 zfizzamq.
Patented Feb. 21, 1940 SPINNING DEVICE cu-1 meteor rutoa'n eu Uber memo, Germany application August 11, 1937, Serial No.
Divided and this application Novemher 5, 1938, Serial No. 239,150. In Germany Original 6 Claims.
My invention relates to a spinning device and more particularly to a spinning cup mounted on a rapidly rotating driving shaft. I
This application is a division of applicant's 5 copending application filed Aug. 11, 1937, Ser.
One object of my invention is to mount the spinning cup on the shaft in such a manner that it is held firmly on the shaft even at the-highest speed of revolution, but may be removed readily if desired.
A further object of my .invention is to provide a mounting for the spinning cup on the driving u shaft which insures an automatic accurate cenother.
According to my invention, I accomplish the above-mentioned and other objects, which will appear as the description proceeds, by the combination with a vertical driven shaft provided with a central bore and having its upper end of conical shape, of a spinning cup comprising a central vhub having an axial bore and two oppositely disposed conical seats formed at the ends of said bore, respectivelmthe lower of said seats bearing on the upper end of said shaft, and a pin slidably disposed within the bore of the shaft and projecting upwardly through said axial bore in said hub, said pin having at its uppartly in elevation and partly in section- In the drawing, lo denotes the vertical 1101-, low shaft of an electromotor ll enclosed in a two part motor casing ii. The upper end of the hollow shaft i is provided witha reinforced rim lfla. A second hollow shaft portion it formed at its lower end with a seat and a cor-' responding reinforced rimdia is supported on the upper end of shaft l0 and projects upwardly from the casing I: through an opening it in the latter. The upper end of the hollow shaft portion is of conical shape, and between this upper conical end and the part of the shaft l3 extending into the motor casing if, there, is provided on the shaft portion I! a flange l5 overlapping and covering the opening it in the motor. casing i2, whereby'precipitatlng liquid is prevented from entering the hollow shaft or the u The spinning cup It comprises an axially bored tering of the two elements relative to one anper end a head tapered on a conical surface towhich shows one embodiment of my invention central hub ll, having a conical seat it at the lower end of the bore and a second oppositely disposed conical seat It atthe upper end of the bore. The can It is seated with the lower conical seat It on the conical upper end of the I hollow shaft portion [8 and is held in this position by means of a pin 20 having a diameter slightly smaller than that of the bores in the hub ll, hollow shaft portion I3 and hollow shaft l0, and extending slidably through said hub 10 and shaft portion into said hollow shaft. The pin comprises at its upper end 'a head 2| tapered on a conical surface. towards the pin and engaging the upper conical seat IS in the hub l'l thereby pressing the can It with the lower 5 conical seat I8 in the hub ll against the upper conical end of hollow shaft portion l3. At the same time the pin 20 effects automatically an accurate centering of the cup relatively to the driving shaft. 20
When the device starts to rotate, the pin 20 tends to rise within the hollow shaft l0 and hollow shaft portion l3, and, when the number of revolutions exceeds a critical period, the pin drops again into the shaft. This free oscillation of the pin 20 is facilitated by the portion thereof within the hollow shaft portion d3 and hollow shaft Ill being tapered at 22.
The hollow shaft i3 withthe spinning cup I6 is likewise lifted off the shaft I0 at the critical 80 number of revolutions before a positive coupling is effected.
Although only one preferred form of my invention has been illustrated and described in detail, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit of I my invention as set forth in the appended claims.
I claim:
' 1. In a spinning device, the combination with -a vertical driven shaft provided with a central bore and having its upper end of conical shape, of a spinning cup comprising a central hub having an axial bore and. two oppositely disposed conical seats formed at the ends of said bore, respectively, the lower of said seats bearing on the upper end of said shaft, and a pin slidably disposed within the bore of theshaft and pro 5o jecting upwardly through said axial bore in said hub, said pin having at its upper, end a head tapered on a conical surface towards said pin to engage the upperconical seat in said hub.
2. A spinning device, as claimed in claim l, u
comprising further an electromotor, said driven shaft being formed by the shaft of said motor.
3. A spinning device, as claimed in claim 1, in which said driven shaft comprises two superimposed portions, and a driving connection is provided between said portions.
, 4. A spinning device, as'clalmed in claim 1, in which the portion of said pin disposed within the bore of said shaft'is tapered.
5. A spinning device, as claimed in claim 1,
said spinning cup and adapted to prevent flow of liquid to the lower portion of the shaft.
6. A spinning device, as claimed in claim 1,
comprising further a motor, and a casing for said motor, said driven shaft projecting through said casing, and a flange formed on said shaft below the spinning cup and outside the motor casing, said flange covering the opening in said casing through which the shaft projects.
