The head ofsuch razor is usually 'of relatively light weight .5, and while the handle may be of solid one-piece construction it may also be made of tubular or other light weight construction. In the drawing I have illustrated my invention in connection with a safety -razor of the wellknown Gillettey type wherein a blade holding head l0 is attached to and supported on a handle l2. The handle illustrated in Figs. 1-6 islof tubular construction and comprises twojsemicylindrical sections l2cJ and 12b pivoted to the head l0 at I4. Integral with the pivoted` ends `of the handle sections are guard teeth l5 which in the closed position of the razor cooperate with the maybe inserted or removed upon pivoting the handlesections to the fully open position. AThe handle sections are held in the closed position by latches I8 preferably integral withthe free ends of the sections. Each latch cooperates with the other latch and its handle section to alignthe handlesections both laterally and longitudinally andy to hold them so aligned and in closed relation. This latch is more specifically described in acopending application to Angus A. Martin, Ser.
No. 134,825, led April 3, 1937.
It will be apparent that this razor may be economically made from sheet metal stampings and that, as thus constructed, the razor is of relatively light Weight. Many users of safety razors prefer a heavier razor and the purpose of my invention is to provide means cooperating with this razor to `satisfy this preference and furthermore to give propel and desirable balance to the razor, and I accomplish this purpose by suitably mounting one or more weights within the tubular handle.
When the handle l2, as herein illustrated, comprises two semi-cylindrical sections I prefer likewise to form the weight in two sections to lit respectively within the handle sections. One such weight 20 is illustrated in Fig. 6. This weight section has a plain face 22 and a semi-cylindrical face 24, the latter corresponding with the inner curved surface of each handle section. Two of these weight sections are therefore adapted to fitr within the two handle sections and they are furthermore preferably arranged for adjustment longitudinally therein and therealong. A convenient latch for holding each weight section within its handlesection may consist of a wire 26 bent to the shape shown in Fig. 3 andheld within a'slot 3B on a pin 28. The two free ends 3l rof each latch pro-ject outwardly of the weight section and engage within longitudinal channels 32 formed Within the handle sections. The extent of these channels is preferably such as to permit adjustment of the weights from a position adjacent to the head I0 to a position adjacent to the free end of the handle. When the handle is in the open position, the weights may be pushed longitudinally of the handle sections to any desired position and resilient engagement of the wire ends 32 provides sufficient friction against fthe handle to hold the weights in such position.

The invention furthermore contemplates an adjustable weighting arrangement of simple and convenient design whereby the individual user can balance the razor to suit his particular fancy or requirement, it being known that some users desire the weight to be located at or adjacent to the shaving head I0 Whereas other users may desire that the weight be located more nearly adjacent to the free end of the handle. The novel construction comprising my improvements herein disclosed is adapted to satisfy the requirements of both and all such users of safety razors.
While it is believed ypreferable to locate the weight within the handle, it may in some cases be desired to locate the Weight outside the handle. In Fig. 7 I have illustrated a safety razor 40 having a weight 42 on and adjustable along the handle. Any suitable means may be provided for holding the weight in its adjusted position, as, for example, a spring secured on a pin 44 within a slot 46 in the handle and having ends 48 pressing against the Weight along grooves 50 therein.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
l. A safety razor comprising a blade holding head and an attached handle, and a Weight Wholly within and adjustable longitudinally along the handle for giving balance to the razor, the weight being supported by engagement with the handle intermediate of the handle ends.
2. A safety razor comprising a blade holding head and an attached handle embodying a plurality of sections, and a weight comprising a plurality of sections respectively within the handle sections for giving balance to the razor, the weight being adjustable longitudinally along the handle intermediate of and relative to the ends thereof.
3. A safety razor comprising a blade holding head and an attached tubular handle embodying two semi-cylindrical sections, and a Weight comprising two sections respectively within the handle sections and adjustable therealong for giving balance to the razor.
4. The safety razor deiined in claim 3 plus interlocking means holding the weight sections within. the handle sections and permitting said adjustment of the weight sections along the handle sections.
5. A safety razor comprising a blade holding head and an attached handle, and a weight carried by and adjustable longitudinally along the handle intermediate of and relative to the ends thereof for giving balance to the razor, the weight being shorter than the handle, located wholly between the ends thereof, and supported by engagement with the handle intermediate of the handle ends.
