The bar 48 is pivoted by means of the slot uprights 5|, it being understood that there is one upright at each side in which the extension 52 of the bar is both slidable and rotatable, the uprights being slotted with a slot 53 as shown. The cover thus can be lifted off and the dial will remain in place, then when the cover has been lifted OK, the dial mech anism can be folded back into the dotted line position shown in Fig. 3 to permit ready access to the wiring on the back thereof. The induction coil which is housed in the base at 55 and the condenser 58 are fixed on the base so that all of the parts of the telephone are readily accessible when the cover I2 is removed. The condensers 56 are held down by suitable straps such as shown at 51.
From the above description it is believed that the construction and advantages of this device will be clear to those skilled in the art and while I have shown one specific form of my invention, it is obvious thatvarious modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is new and desire to claim by Letters Patent is: I
1. A desk telephone set having in combination a base, a ringing mechanism mounted on said base adjacentone side edge thereof, a dial swingingly secured to said base at the side opposite said ringing mechanism and projecting upwardly over the base toward the center thereof, a hook switch mechanism mounted on said base between the dial and ringing mechanism mountings, said hook switch mechanism being provided with a shelf upon which the upper end of the dial is supported, and a cover over said mechanism having an opening for said dial and having projections formedthereon for supporting a hand set, said dial being also slidable with respect to the base whereby to permit its movement with the cover as the cover is removed from the base.
2. A desk telephone set having in combination a base, a ringing mechanism mounted on said base adjacent one side edge thereof, a dial swingingly secured to said base at the side opposite said ringing mechanism and projecting upwardly over the base toward the center thereof, a hook switch mechanism mounted on said base between the dial and ringing mechanism mountings, said hook switch mechanism being provided with a shelf upon which the upper end of the dial is supported, and a cover over said mechanism having an opening for said dial and having projections formed thereon for supporting a hand set, said base having a partition member interposed between the ringing mechanism and the hook switch mechanism whereby to isolate the ringing mechanism beneath the cover.
