This invention relates to a combination recep-:

tacle. More particularly it relates to a receptacle especially adapted to provide a compact shaving unit, although in its broader aspect it is 5'- not limited to such use.

Heretofore it has been the practice to provide a somewhat large receptacle for shaving accessories, but such units were incomplete and made no provision for all the desirable conveniences for shaving, including means for removing moisture from the blade and storing the blade in current use and providing for new and used blade storage as well as a receptacle for suitably holding the razor, soap and other items. if The present invention has in view the provision of a unit so formed and subdivided as to supply in compact form all of the features above mentioned and also to permit quantity manufacture of the same at low cost and with ease of ass sembly. i

The principal object of the present, invention is to provide a combination receptacle wherein a plurality of compartments is provided I by members having double functions and cooperat- 25 ing with each other thereby supplying a'compact unit.

Another object of the invention is to provide a combination receptacle adaptedfor use as a compact shaving unit to hold the various items 3 required for shaving, as well as to provide for the drying of the blades and the storage of discarded blades.

Another object of the invention is to provide a compartment wherein the articles requisite for 35 shaving are held within suitably formed recesses, and wherein the member having such recesses co-acts with other portions of the receptacle to form a compartment for discarded blades.

Another object of the invention is to provide a 40 shaving unit with three compartments so subdivided and interrelated that the elements of said compartment serve a function in relation to adjacent compartments in addition to their primary functions in their own compartment. 45 A further object of the invention is to provide a removable member adapted to forma false bottom for a receptacle for holding a razor and shaving accessories, and also serving in conjunction with such receptacle to provide a dis- 5 carded razor blade compartment. As is clearly shown in the drawing, the apparatus comprises a receptacle or container I having a body portion formed of sidewalls 2, end walls 3 and a true bottom &. The side flanges of the cover II, when in closed position, engage over a slot l8 provided through the end wall of the receptacle, said slot being designed to receive discarded razor blades. Thus, when razor blades are positioned within the container and the cover H is closed it will be impossible for any of the same to be accidentally discharged from such receptacle. Within the container there is provided a false bottom preferably of the configuration shown in Figs. 5, 6 and '7, and also shown in other figures of the drawing. The false bottom preferably comprises a sheet metal plate 2| provided with downwardly turned flanges on three of its sides, one flange 22 fitting against the forward face of the container, and the opposite flange 23 being spaced from the rear wall of the container, and. extending longitudinally for a sufficient distance to provide an open space 24 of the conventional size of a package of new razor blades 25 which may be snugly engaged therein. The end 20 of the false bottom adjacent the end of the container having the slot l8 heretofore referred to is free of a flange so as to permit the direct insertion of discarded blades into the compartment provided by the false bottom and the true bottom of the container. The opposite end of the false bottom is downwardly and outwardly turned across the major portion of its extent to provide a depressed area 26 within which the lower half of the head portion of a conventional safety razor 21 may be received. The false bottom preferably has upward struck spring fingers 28, 29, to engage the handle portion of the safety razor when the razor is placed within the container. A shallow depression 30 is provided approximately centrally of the false bottom on its upper side to receive the handle portion of the safety razor when the head portion thereof is engaged within the depression 26 heretofore described. An additional shallow depression 3| of somewhat greater width and lesser length than the depression 30 is provided adjacent the flange portion 22 of the false bottom,such depression being of a size to receive a tube of shaving cream 32 or the like. The upper face of the false bottom may be provided with a layer of moisture absorbent material 33 and the inner face of the upper cover 5 may be provided with a layer of moisture absorbent material 34.

The false bottom is so constructed that it fits very snugly within the lower portion of the container. It may be readily removed, however, by pressing against the fiange portion 23 and pulling upwardly, the contents of the receptacle having been previously removed. When the false bottom is thus lifted, access is had to the discarded razor blades, and they may be suitably disposed of, the false bottom being then replaced within the container ready for the reception of further used blades through the slot 18, as heretofore indicated. The razor blade in current use indicated at [5 Fig. 4 may be placed between the blotters on the lower lid and on the under side of the container respectively, such blotters,'or other absorbent material, serving to prevent the blade from rusting. and also means for supplying new blades, means for storing the blade in current use and means for safely receiving and storing discarded blades. Through the use of covers on either side of the body portion of the container, the true and false bottom of the same serve dual functions. The lower cover l I also serves a dual function by providing a closure for the slot of the used blade receptacle, and also providing one of the pair of blotter members to press against the blade in current use to remove the moisture therefrom and store the same until it is again required. The receptacle lends itself to inexpensive manufacturing methods and ready assembly, and is adapted for a wide variety of finishes, as well as extended choice of materials from which its elements may be formed. It may be stamped from sheet metal of various compositions, and it may be molded in whole or in part from synthetic plastic or the like, and it may likewise be formed of paper or other fibrous material. It likewise may be made of different shapes in accordance with the type of razor it is designed to receive. It likewise may provide adequate storage space for a telescopic shaving brush of small size at a point intermediate the handle of the razor and the new blade package, but the false bottom need not be formed with a further depression at such point, although it may have resilient fingers disposed to engage the telescopic shaving brush thus provided.

As has been indicated, the structure supplies in a single compact unit all the equipment needed for shaving and requires no additional items to be carried along as under the usual practice. It can be readily placed in a traveling bag and is of particular utility when taken as a traveling accessory as it provides razor receptacle, brush, shaving cream, blade drying compartment, new blade supply and discarded blade compartment all in a minimum of space. It, of course, is also of great convenience for home use, or for emergency use at various places.

Other modes of applying the principleof my invention may be employed instead of those explained, change being made as regards the structure herein disclosed, provided the means stated by any of the following claims or the equivalent of such stated means be employed.

I therefore particularly point out and claim as my invention:

1. An article of the character described comprising a receptacle with a removable cover on one side thereof, a removable member engaged within said receptacle, providing a closed compartment within said receptacle, a wall of the receptacle having an opening providing access to said compartment, and a removable cover engaged over said receptacle opposite said first mentioned cover and serving as a closure for said opening into said compartment.

3. An article of the character described having in combination a receptacle open at one side, a removable cover engaged over said open side of said receptacle, a removable false bottom engaged within said receptacle and in spaced relation to the true bottom thereof to provide a closed compartment within the lower portion of said receptacle, a wall of the receptacle having an opening providing access to said compartment, and a second cover member engaged over the true bottom of said receptacle in spaced relation thereto to provide an auxiliary compartment and to provide a closure for said opening into said closed compartment.

An article of the character described having in combination a receptacle open at one side, a removable cover engaged over said open side of said receptacle, a removable false bottom engaged within said receptacle and in spaced relation to the true bottom thereof to provide article receiving recesses and a closed compartment within the lower portion of said receptacle, a wall of said receptacle having an opening providing access to said compartment, and a second cover member engaged over the true bottom of said receptacle in spaced relation thereto to provide an auxiliary compartment.

5. An article of the character described having in combination a receptacle comprising a body member with side walls and a bottom wall and pair of flanged lids pivoted on said body member each adapted to engage respectively over the opposite marginal portions of the side walls, one of such lids providing a razor blade receiving and drying compartment intermediate the bottom wall and the said lid, and the other lid serving to form a closure for a receptacle for shaving material, including razor, new blades and shaving soap, and a false bottom in said receptacle adapted to provide a blade compartment intermediate said false bottom and true bottom of said body member. I

6. An article of the character described having in combination a receptacle comprising a body member with side walls and a bottom wall and pair of flanged lids pivoted on said body member each adapted to engage respectively over the opposite marginal portions of the side walls, one of such lids providing a razor blade receiving and drying compartment intermediate the bottom wall and the said lid, and the other lid serving to form a closure for a receptacle for shaving material, including razor, new blades and shaving soap, a false bottom in said receptacle adapted to provide a used blade compartment intermediate said false bottom and true bottom of said body member, and a wall of said receptacle having an opening providing a passageway for used blades into such compartment.

7. An article of the character described having in combination a receptacle comprising a body member with side walls and a bottom wall, and a pair of flanged lids pivoted on said body member each adapted to engage respectively over the opposite marginal portions of the side walls, one of such lids providing a razor receiving and drying compartment intermediate the bottom wall and the said lid, and the other serving to form a closure for a receptacle for shaving material, including razor, new blades and shaving soap, a false bottom in said receptacle adapted to provide a blade compartment intermediate said falsebottom and true bottom of said body member, and a wall of said receptacle having an opening providing a passageway for used blades into such blade compartment, the flanged portion of said lid adjacent the true bottom of said receptacle serving as a closure for said passageway.

8. An article of the character described having in combination a body member in the form of an open receptacle having side walls and a bottom member, a false bottom adapted to snugly engage within said body member and be held in spaced relation to said body member to provide a compartment for used razor blades, a wall of said receptacle having a slot communicating with said used razor blade compartment, said slot being in a side wall of said member at a point intermediate the true and false'bottom members of said structure and a cover member adapted to be engaged in spaced relation to the true bottom of said structure and providing a compartment'for a razor blade in current use, and a closure for said slot.

9. An article of the character described havin in combination a body member in the form of an open receptacle having side walls and a bottom member, a cover member for said receptacle, a false bottom formed with article receiving recesses and adapted to snugly engage within said body member and be held in spaced relation to said bottom member to provide a compartment for used razor blades, a wall of said receptacle having a slot communicating with said used razor blade compartment, said slot being in a side wall of said member at a point intermediate the true and false bottom members of said structure and a second cover member with flanges adapted to provide a compartment for a razor blade in current use;
