FLORIST S PACKAGE Fild April 9, 193s 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 v INVENTOR Y JOHN C2 0W ORNEY.
Patented Oct. 1939 UNITED sTATEs PATENT OFFICE FLORISTS PACKAGE John B. Clow, Denver, Colo. Application April 9, 1938, Serial No. 201,169 s claims; (ci. 20s-44') This invention relates to a. florists package or container for delivering cut owers and has for its principal object the provision of a package which can be delivered to the florist in a. knockdown -condition so that they may be stored in a minimum of space; which can be quickly and easily, individually assembledcby the iorist; and which will completely protect yet effectively display the ilower container therein.
Other objects and advantages reside in the detail construction of the invention, which is designed for simplicity, economy, and eiliciency. These will become more apparent-from the following description.
In the following detailed description of the invention reference is had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part hereof. Like numerals refer to like parts in all views of the drawings and throughout the description.
In the drawings: Fig. l is a perspective yiew illustrating the container with the iiowers in place therein, ready for delivery tothe customer.
Fig-2 is a longitudinal section through the complete container.
Fig. 3 is a cross section therethrough taken employed with the alternate form.
Fig'. 10 is a. detail section through one end of the alternate form.
The improved container is formed from two cup-shaped end caps I0 having relatively. deep peripheral anges I8. The-'end caps IIlare separated and supported by means of av relatively stiiI bottom sheet I.I. 'I'he bottom sheet II is preferably formed from stiff cardboardand is clamped into the end caps Ill by forcing circular, anged innerrend members I2 having peripheral flanges I9 into the end members I0 after the bottom sheet is in place therein. Thegmembers I2 are of -a diameter to fit 'snugly into the end caps III so that they will tightly clamp and lock the bottom sheet between the flanges I8 and Before both of the end caps are put in place, a center supporting ring I3 is slipped about the bottom piece,II. l
The assembled structure presents a cylindrical,
basket-like container which is exceedingly substantial. The center ring I3 is held in place by the expansion of the bottom piece II and the bottom vpiece is securely clamped between the end pieces I0 and I2.
After the flowers are in place in the container, the entire assembly is wrapped with a single sheet of transparent Cellophane I4 which can be cemented or otherwise secured either to the bottom piece I I or the end caps I0. The middle ring I3 acts to support the Cellophane in perfect cylindrical form without collapsing. After the Cellophane 'is in place the flowers are completely protected 'from damage and yet are exposed to view to present an attractive package.
The alternate form of the invention is based upon the same principle as the previous form` The end pieces of the' alternate form, however, consist of open flanged rings I5, one edge of which is turned to form a rounded flange or bead I6. The bottom piece of the container is slipped into the ring against the bead and is clamped therein by means of a circular disc I'I which is forced into the ring upon the bottom piece. The remainder of the package is similar to the previous form.
While a specific form of the improvement has been described and illustrated herein, it is desired to be understood that the same may be varied, within the scope of the appended claims,
without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed and desired secured by Letters Patent is:
1. A container comprising: two circular, flanged end members; a trough-like bottom sheet extending between said end members and lying within the flanges thereof; and means for clamping said bottom sheet against said anges, comprising circular, cup-like,v flanged members forced into said end members upon said bottom sheet.
2. A container comprising: two circular, flanged end members; a trough-like bottomsheet extending between said end members; a ring surrounding said bottom sheet intermediate said end pieces to support the sides of said bottom sheet; andmeans for securing said bottom sheet to said end members.
3. A container comprising: two circular, flanged end members; a .trough-like bottom sheet extending between said end members; a ring surrounding said bottom sheet intermediate said end vpieces to support the sides of saidI bottom sheet; means for securing said bottom sheet to I said end members; and a cylindrical, transparent enclosure surrounding said container and closing the open side thereof.
