L. JSASI BUTTON Filed Ocfh. 4. 1
INVENTOR Lznus ISGSQ/ m1 ATTORNEYS Patented Oct. 10, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OF-FIICE 2,175,840 nU'rtroN Linus Isasi, Washington, D. 0. Application October 4, 1938, Serial No. 233,207
1 Claim.
This invention relates to buttons and has for an object to provide a construction wherein there is presented means whereby the buttons may be connected together or to an article oi wearing apparel without the usual stitching operation.
Another object 01' the invention is to provide a button wherein a picture or other article may be hidden and disclosed through the button when made of transparent material tained secret when the button is made 01' opaque material.
A further and more specific object of the invention is to provide a button made in two or more parts wherein the outer portion of the button is removably connected to the inner portion, whereby different outer portions may be applied to one inner portion at different times.
In the accompanying drawing- Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a pair buttons disclosing an embodiment of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of one of the buttons shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a sectional view through Fig. 4 approximately on the line 3-3;
Fig. 4 is a sectional view through Fig. 1 approximately on the line H;
Fig. 5 is a sectional view similar to Fig. 4 but showing the outer part of the button;
Fig. 6 is a sectional view through an article to be applied to the outer part of the button;
Fig. 7 is a sectional view through the inner p Fig. 8 is a view similar to Fig. 4 but showing a slightly modified construction;
Fig. 9 is a rear view of the inner part of the button shown in Fig. 8.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, l and 2 indicate identical buttons, each button being provided with a ligament 3 of any desired kind. As shown in Fig. 3, these ligaments are interlocked at 4 so as to hold the buttons permanently together.
These buttons may be used on certain types 01' coats and other garments where the front portions of the coat or garment are held merely in contact or slightly spaced apart. It will be evident that these buttons may be used at other places without departing from the spirit of the invention and may be used singly as well as in pairs.
As shown in Fig. 2, the button I is provided with what may be termed an outer part 5, which is of transparent material, as, for instance, celluloid or other transparent substance. A threaded bore 6 is formed in the rear or back portion of the outer part 5 and into this bore is placed an but will be main-- article, as, for instance, a picture 1. This may be firmly affixed by adhesive but preferably it is held in place only by the inner part 8 which is preferably of the same material as the outer part 5 and is formed with threads 9 adapted to be 5 screwed into the threaded bore 6. The inner part 8 is provided with two or more apertures l0 and each aperture is provided with an enlarged recess H whereby the cord or other ligament 3 may extend through the inner part 8 and then formed 10 into a knot I2 whereby it can not be removed and whereby the ligament can connect the button to the garment.
By the construction just described it will be seen that after the ligament 3 has been connected to the garment in any desired way the outer part 5 of the button may be applied or removed as often as desired. In fact, diilerently shaped outer parts may be applied to the inner part 8. Also the outer part may be removed at any time and the article i removed and a new one applied. Also where desired the transparent outer part 5 could be removed and an opaque outer part substituted.
In Figs. 8 and 9 a modified construction is shown wherein the outer part 8' is provided with a pair of notches l3 merging into bores II which receive the journal pins l5 and I6 01' a metal member IT. This member is preferably provided with a loop I 8 whereby it may be secured to a garment by stitching or by any other desired means. If desired, two of the anchoring members il' could be connected, as shown in Fig. 1, though ordinarily the construction shown in Fig. 1 is preferable. In this form of the invention the inner part 8 is screwed into the outer part 5 as in the preferred form and, consequently, the outer part may be removed and replaced or substituted at any time without disturbing the inner part.
I claim:
A button comprising a round disk-shaped body flat on both sides presenting an outer part having an outer finished face and a threaded bore extending inwardly from its inner face, a round disk-shaped inner part having a threaded peripheral surface screwed into said bore, said inner part having a pair 01' diametrically oppositely positioned notches on its peripheral edge and a bore extending radially inwardly from each of said notches, and an anchoring member of metal formed with an anchoring loop and a pair of substantially hook-shaped journal members fitting into said notches and bores.
