Description

y 8, 1939. H. HANSON DOOR CONSTRUCTIQN Filed July 28, was
In venfor A itor zeys Patented July 18, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in door constructions.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a door construction of sturdy .yet
inexpensive construction.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a door of veneering construction wherein unusual sturdi bracing and internal construction is employed.
Other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 represents a side elevational view of the door shown braced but without the veneer- Figure 2 is a vertical sectional View of the door showing the bracing but without veneering.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the one of the connecting members.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of one of the corner members.
Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 denotes the frame of the door which consists of the top and bottom members 6 and 1 and the side members 8 and 9.
Numeral l0 represents a cross member which connects the intermediate portions of the side portions 8 and 9 of the door frame and the ends of this cross member l0 are dovetailed as at H into the side members 8 and 9.
Thus upper and lower door frame openings are defined in which brace means are installed in carrying out the present invention.
In carrying out the present invention, in each of the last-mentioned door spaces is disposed an octagon-shaped frame II and across each corner of these openings, including the corners defined by the cross member 10 is disposed a corner member 12, the end portions of which are inset as at 13 into the end and side members and cross member ll] of the door as clearly shown in Figure 1.
To complete the connecting and reinforcing of this structure, the connecting or brace members I4 are disposed in a manner connecting 5 either the door frame or the corner members l2 or the cross member N with the corresponding octagon frame II. The end portions of the brace members M each has its inner end dovetailed as at 15 into a corresponding side portion of the frame H and its outer end portion dovetailed either to the dovetailed opening I6 of a corner member l2 or into the door frame as at I! or into the cross member I0 as at l8.
These members I2 and I4 as well as the frame 15 II and cross member I!) are of a thickness equal to the thickness of the door frame so that their outside surfaces will be flush with the outside surfaces of the door frame 5.
Obviously in finishing the door construction, 20 veneering is applied to opposite sides of the door frame and aforementioned reinforcing means so as to completely conceal the same.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specificterms, it is to be understood 25 that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, claimed as new is:
In a door structure, a frame, a cross member dividing the frame into a pair of open areas, a centrally located structure in each of the areas and brace members extending from the centrally 35 located structure to the frame and cross member, and having their ends dovetailed into the frame and cross member, and corner members into which certain of the brace members have I their outer ends dovetailed.
