Description

GONDIMENT DISPENSER Filed April 14, 1938 ll lllllllll||lllllllllllllllllllllIllll!llllllllllllIIIIIIIIIHIIIHIIIIIIIUH lll Patented July 18, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application April 14, 1938, Serial No. 202,095 In Austria September 4, 1937 2 Claims. (01. 65-45) This invention relates to improvements in dispensers for salt, ground pepper and spice or the like of the kind in which a circumferentially grooved rotatable member extends in the longitudinal direction of a discharge slot formed in the salt or spice dispenser. The essential feature of the present invention consists in that the rotatable member is in the shape of a. roller-comb, the diameter of which substantially corresponds with the width of said discharge slot and the tooth-gaps of which permit the free passage of the salt or the like between the base of the toothgaps and the edge of the discharge slot, the teeth of said roller-comb co-operating with a stationary comb mounted in the-dispenser and acting, when the" roller-comb is rotated, to strip from the latter the salt sticking in its tooth-gaps.
One mode of carrying out the present invention is illustrated byway of example on the ac- 20 companying sheet of drawing in which Fig. 1 shows a dispenser in part-sectional front view. Fig. 2 is a part-sectional side view of the dispenser. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the dispenser.
The dispenser comprises a body I, which is 25 provided with a removable bottom 2 and a top wall formed with an oblong discharge slot 3, so that said lid consists of two wings 4, l, which are separated by the said slot. A roller-comb 5, provided with circumferential grooves 6, extends 30 through the slot 3 and is rotatably mounted in the wall of the body I. The outer diameter of the roller-comb 5 and the width of the discharge slot, are so proportioned that the salt or the like, contained in the dispenser, may leave the latter 35 by way of the gaps between the teeth of the roller-comb and the edges of the wings 4, 4 bounding the discharge slot 3. In the vertical plane of the roller-comb 5, the wall of the dispenser is provided with oppositely disposed slots 40 l, which extend downwardly a short distance from the top edge of the wall of the body. The
ends of a comb 8 are slid into said slots and thus the comb 8 is immovably secured in the dispenser underneath the roller-comb 5. The teeth of said comb 8 correspond in number and size to the tooth-gaps of roller-comb 5, so that 5 they fit substantially into said tooth-gaps of the roller-comb 5, arranged directly above the fixed comb 8. If the tooth-gaps of the roller-comb 5 become clogged up with salt or the like, the roller-comb 5 is rotated around its axis by means of a handle 9 attached to one of its ends, whereby the salt or the like is scraped off and loosened by the fixed comb 8, thus cleaning the tooth-gaps of the roller-comb. The dispenser is filled with salt or the like by way of its removable bottom 2.
What I claim is- 1. A condiment dispenser, comprising in combination a body, a discharge slot in the top 01 said body, a roller-comb with circumferential grooves extending through said slot and rotatably mounted in said body, the outer diameter of said rollercomb substantially corresponding to the width of said slot, and a comb immovably secured in said body underneath said roller-comb, the in teeth of said immovable comb corresponding in size to and engaging the tooth-gaps of said roller-comb.
2. Salt, ground pepper and spice caster and the like, comprising in combination a body, a discharge slot in the top of said body, a rollercomb with circumferential grooves extending through said slot and rotatably mounted in said body, the outer diameter of said roller-comb substantially corresponding to the width of said slot, oppositely disposed slots in and extending downwardly a distance from the top end of said body, and a comb slid into said slots and immovably secured in said body underneath said roller-comb, the teeth of said immovable comb corresponding in size to and engaging the tooth-gaps oi. said roller-comb.
