1 Claim.
This invention relates to protectors for legs and stockings, and among other objects, aims to provide 'an improved protector which while neat in appearance, protects the legs against frostbite and moisture, and may be easily put on and taken ofi without removing the shoes and stockings and other articles of apparel.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification. In said drawing- Fig. 1 is a side elevation showing the protector open; and
Fig. 2 is a similar view but showing the protector applied to the leg.
Referring particularly to the drawing, there is shown a leg protector or over hose comprising a leg portion 5, of warm material as will be explained, a strap 6 to be passed under the arch portion of the shoe, and a lastex top I which may be just above or justbelow the knee, according to the preference of the user. On one side of the protector, a slide or zipper fastening 9 extends longitudinally from'the extreme lower edge to a point about 8" or 10" above said lower edge, and the tab I is at the top of the fastening 9 when the protector is wide open. The protector may then be put on without re-, moving the shoe, even if the shoe has high heels.
The leg portion is preferablyknitted double and fashioned like a stocking, with knitted wool on the outside, or a wool mixture over thread,
- and an inner knitted lining or "under thread of silk and cotton silk and rayon, or rayon and cotton, so that no fuzz clings to the legs to mar the appearance ofthe stockings, and there is no irritation from the wool fibers. As is well known, women today wear sheer silkhose in all weather conditions and such hose would offer little protection against the harsh fibers which would project from the leg portion 5, if its undersurface were of wool. Preferably the leg portion 5 is completely waterproofed. The lastex top may be narrower than shown, but should be sufficiently elastic to stretch to at least double, and preferably triple, its ordinary length. A
great advantage of a lastex top is that it may be 6 made on a machine at the same portion 5 is made. The strap 6 is preferably slightly elastic, to pass under, the shoe and hold the protector snugly upon the instep. It may be time the leg sewed, riveted or stapled at its ends to the bot- 10 tom edges of the protector. The protector may have a textile flap II at the inside of the slide fastening to protect the stocking against snags arising from use of the fastening.
- It will be clear that the described leg .pro-
tector makes it possible for a woman or girl to present her best appearance in fine silk hose at a party, at work or in school, and still be protected against chapped and frost bitten legs in cold weatherv or wet feet and legs in snowy or go A leg protector comprising a knitted leg por- 3 tion extending approximately to the knee and having a wool or part wool outer layer and a non-wool inner layer of some soft textile material; a strap at the lower end to fit under the arch of the shoe; a lastex portion at the top of and integral with the leg portion; and a slide fastener on the outside extending longitudinally upwardly from the lower end for a fraction of the total length of the leg portion.
