SHIRT JACKET Original Filed Jun 11, 1934 Sheets-Sheet 2 I ll r-I I INVENTOR M ALELMQ M W/ U- ATTORNEY Patented Feb. 7, 1939 SHIRT JACKET Louis Blumenstock, Brooklyn, N. Y., assignor to The Spear Box 00., Inc., a corporation of New York I Application June 11, 1934, Serial No. 730,082
, Renewed July 1, 1938 2 Claims.
Myinvention relates to improvements in shirt covers or jackets, and more particularly has reference to and is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in its application to a cover or jacket 5 especially adapted for use with laundered shirts, for protecting the same and for displaying the laundered shirt to advantage.
Referring to said drawings, Fig. 1 shows an application of the same in front elevation with the 1o" shirt enclosed. Fig. 2 shows the same opened out in planview. Fig. 3 shows the upper part of a modified form of jacket. Fig 4 shows a modifled form in front elevation. Fig. 5 an end view looking from right to left thereat. Fig. 6 shows 15 another modified form in front elevation, and
Fig. '7 a view looking from right to'left thereat.
In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, an integral card is formed with a back 8,'side portions 9, l0, and front marginal" sideportions H, l2, a hole go l3 being preferably provided through the back for inspection purposes. At the top, a triangular portion projects with score lines I5, IE, IT, and fiaps I8, l9, also a collar insert 20, connected to theutriangular portion I4 by a narrow. strip 2|, 3 and-from one of the front side portions is extended a strap 22 having an entering tongue 23 to engage the slit 24, and a center button engaging cut away portion 25.
To insert the. shirt, the jacket is laid out fiat as shown in Fig. 2, the flaps l8, H are turned up at right angles, and the top triangular portion I4 is folded forwardly allowing the fiaps l8, l9 to pass into the neck of the shirt. The free ends a the back of the jacket as shown at 2'5, and is hinged at 21 as shown.
In the modification shown in Fig. 3 only a. base portion 28 of the triangular portion I4 is retained, and is intended to pass up beneath the back of the collar of the shirt.
In the modification shown in Figs. 4 and 5, in- 5 stead of providing a button hole in the front band, a V 29 is formed with lateral slits 30, 3| to clear the button.
In the modifications shown in Figs. 6 and 7, the front band 32 is preferably cut diagonally 10 from the back as shown, and the tops of the "front sides are preferably cutaway or beveled as indicated at 33, 34.
Ofcourse it will be understood that various other modifications may be made in the construc- 16 tion and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
I claim:
1. In a shirt jacket of the class described, a back portion, side portions, and means for se- 20 curing a shirt therein, and in combination a neck entering portion, and collar reinforcement, said collar reinforcement connected to said neck entering portion and adapted to be inserted within the collar said reinforcement comprising 26 strips extending laterally from one end of said entering portion, the latter being substantially triangular in plan view with collapsable side flaps.
2. A shirt protector having a fiat panel for engaging the body of a shirt, a neck engaging por- 80 gaging portion and adapted to be inserted within the folds of the collar of the shirt, said reinforcement comprising strips extending laterally from 35 the outer end of said neck engaging portion, the neck engaging portion having side flaps for engaging the inner side of the shirt collar, said side flaps being of sufliclent depth to resist crushing of the collar.
