lMPROVEMENT IN SASH-TIGHTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 214,568, dated April 22, 1879; application filed August 8, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK J. HOYT, of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Sash Tightener, of. which the following is a specification.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of my improved sash-tightener. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sect-ion of a portion of a window and windowframe, showing an application of my improvement.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of my invention is to provide a cheap and efficient device for stopping the rattling of windows.
The invention consists in a cylin drical socket, to which is fitted a spring-acted follower having a round end. The cylindrical socket is inserted in the window-stop or in the stile of the sash, and exerts sufficient pressure to keep the sash in contact with the partingstrip.
Referring to the drawings, A and B are window-sashes, U the parting-strip, and D D the stops. E is the cylindrical socket, which is preferably made of sheet metal, and the follower F, which is'also made in cylindrical stile of the sash, and driving into it the socket E. The follower is forced outward against the window-sash or against the window-stop, and prevents the rattling of the window and the entrance of wind between the partin g-stri p and the sash. V
Having thus fullydescribed my invention;I
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters} Patent A sash-tightener consisting of two sheetmetal tubes, closed at one end, and adapted to slide one within the other, the closed end of the inner tube being forced against the sash by means of a coiled spring contained within it, as shown and described.
