This invention relates to line securing devices.

An object of the invention is to provide a simple, practical, and inexpensive device of the character described.

Another object is to provide an improved device of the character described. adapted for novel attachment of the ends of a cord, such as a clothes line or the like.

Another object is to provide a device of the character described by which a cord, such as a clothes line, may be readily adjusted to various lengths and made taut without the necessity of knotting the same.

Other objects and advantages will appear and be brought out more fully in the following specication, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, wherein:

Fig. 1 is a fragmentary view of a room illustrating the invention in use.

Fig. 2 is a side view, partially in section, of an embodiment of the invention.

Fig. 3 is a cross section of the same taken along the line 3 -3 of Fig. 2.

Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 3 illustrating a modication of the structure of Figs. 2 and 3.

Fig. 5 is a view, partly in section, of a modified form of the invention.

Fig-6 is a' separate perspective view of one of the parts shown in Fig. 5.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, the invention consists essentially of a pin I having the general characteristics of the threelegged `clothes pin shown and described in the applicant Behnkes patent, No. 2,071,812, and copending application, Serial No. 103,822, filed October 3, 1936, the device of the present application -being substantially shorter and. preferably constructed of a molded or cast synthetic material such as Bakelite or other lay-products of phenol-condensation. The device has a shank I I, a flanged hea-d I2, further characterized by concave portion or top concavity I3 at one end, soformed to facilitate attaching the device to a cord by permitting application of a linger thereto in holding the device while applying the same Three triangularly disposed and equally spaced legs I4 are formed integrally with pin I I, and have flared ends l and line contact surfaces I6, which contact surfaces may be at, forming relatively sharp, angular or obtuse-angled meeting edges I'I as in Fig. 3, or curved as at I'Ia in Fig. 4. A lug or ear I8 is formed integrally with, or otherwise suitably secured to, the outer portion of one of the legs I4 at a position adjacent the point of merger of the upper end of the leg with the shank II or the bight or crotch of the pin. An aperture or eye I9 is Yformed in the ear I8 and adapted to receive one end of the cord or line4 2|, which may be attached thereto in any suitable manner, such as a knot 22. An example of the operation of the device is exemplified in Fig. 1, wherein the line 2| is seen to be secured at each end to a towel rack 23 secured to opposite walls 24 of a room, such .attachment being obvious, that after one end of the line is secured by one of the pins, the line may be drawn taut and the pin at the other end of the line secured thereto, in the usual manner, cord 2i being flexed or bent and passed through two angularly related slots or recesses leading into the central bore to bind the same, substantially as shown in Figs. 3 or 4, from which it will be clear that the line is made secure against slipping.

In Figs. 5 and 6 is show a modification of the invention, wherein a sleeve 25 is employed, which is provided with a bore 26 adapted to receive or be slipped over legs and shank of and against the ilanged head of a pin 2l, which pin is substantially similar to pin Ill except that the ear I8 is omitted. The sleeve 25 is provided with an ear 28, which in turn has an aperture 29 adapted for the end 20 of the cord 2|, substantially, as described in connection with Figs. 2, 3, and 4.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into eiect, this is capable of variation and modication without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such Variations and modiiications as come within the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A device of the character described comprising a shank having a generally cylindrical contour and a central end bore and radial recesses merging therewith whereby to dene spaced legs extending therefrom, and means on the shank adapted for the attachment of one end of a cord to a side portion of the shank.

2. A device of the character described comprising a shank having a generally cylindrical contour and a central end bore and radial recesses mergingV therewith whereby to define spaced legs extending therefrom, .and means on the shank adjacent the point of merging of the upper ends of the legs with the shank adapted for the attachment of one end of a cor-d to a side portion of the shank, said means including an ear having an aperture.

3. A device of the character described comprising a shank having a generally cylindrical contour and a central end bore and radial recesses merging therewith whereby to dene spaced legs extending therefrom, and means adapted for the attachment of one end of a cord to a side portion of the shank, said means including an apertured ear projecting from one side of the shank adjacent the crotch of the pin on one ofl said legs.

A device of the characted describedcomprising a shank having a generally cylindrical contour and a central end bore and radial-recesses merging therewith whereby to dene three spaced legs extending therefrom, and means adapted'for the attachment of one end of a cord to aside portour' and a central end bore and radial recesses merging therewith wherebyto define spaced legs extending therefrom, and means adapted for the attachment'of one end of a cord to a side portion of the shank, said means including a sleeve for saidshank having an apertured ear.

A device of the character described comprising a shank having a generally cylindricalcontour and a central end bore and radial recesses merging therewith' whereby todefine equally spaced legs extending therefrom, and means adapted for the attachment of'one end of a cord to a side portion of the shank, said means includingH a sleeve detachably secured to said shank and having an apertured ear.

7. A device of the character described comprising a shank having a generally cylindrical contour and a central end bore and radial recesses merging therewith whereby to define three equally spaced legs extending therefrom, andmeans adapted for the attachment of one end of a cord to aside portion of the shank, sai-d means including a sleeve detachably secured to said shank andhaving .an aperture ear extending laterally therefrom.

8; A deviceof the character described comprisinga shank havingfa concavity at one endthereof anda pluralityof spaced-legs extending from the other end of the shank, and means extending outv from the shank'adjacent the juncture of the legs with-the shank adapted for the attachment of onel endof a cord thereto', the cord. being extended angularly through spaces between the legs to anchor the pin on the cord.

9. A line securing device as described adapted to hold a line under tension when an end portion thereof is passed around an anchoring element, said device comprising a shank having a generally cylindrical contour and a central end bore and radial recesses merging therewith to form line receiving portions, a head and three equally spaced legs extending therefrom, and an apertured ear on one of said legs adjacent said shank, whereby to secure the end" of said line, said device adapted to besecured to the main portion of said line by said legs.

10. A line securing device comprising a body having a general cylindrical contour and a central end bore and three radial recesses merging therewith whereby to denne three equally spaced legs of equal widthandthickness, and an outstanding apertured ear on the body in line with one leg adjacent the crotches of the recesses for receiving and anchoring one end of a line, said line when doubled on itself being extended angularly through two of the recesses nearest the ear for holding the line taut and to adjustably anchor the device thereon.

A line securing device comprising a body having a shank with a flanged head having a top concavity and a central end bore and radial recesses merging therewith whereby to define spaced legs anda lug projecting from the pin adjacent the bight portions of the recesses in a direction substantially normal to the length of the body and having an aperture in the direction of the body'as and for the uses and purposes specified as and for the purposes set forth.

12. For use in a line securing device, a clothes pinincluding a body having a general cylindrical contour and a central end bore and radial recesses merging therewith whereby to define threespaced legs, the inner faces of the legs and the recesses being disposed in obtuse-angled relation to each other, opposed faces of the recess being substantially parallel and the inner faces of each leg defining an angular meeting edge with the faces extending in obtuse angled relation to each other for frictionally engaging and holding a line bent through adjacent recesses and extended in the same general -direction at each side thereof.

13. A line securing device including a body having a general cylindrical contour and a central end bore and radial recesses merging therewith whereby to define three spaced legs, the inner faces of the legs and the recesses being disposed in obtuse-angled relationto each other, opposed faces of therecesses-being substantially parallel and the inner faces-of each leg defining a relatively sharp meeting edge for` frictionally engaging and holding a line bent through adjacent recesses and extended in the same general direction at each sidethereof, and a lug projecting from the pin adjacent the bight portions ofthe recesses in a direction-substantially normal to the length of the body, and having an aperture in the direction of Ithe body for anchorin g one end of a line substantially at a point in a plane perpendicular to the body and closely adjacent the plane of theline passed through the recesses.

14. A line securing device including a body having a central end bore andradial recesses merging therewith whereby to define spaced legs, the inner faces of the legs and the recesses being disposed in obtuse angled relation to each other, opposed faces of thev recesses being substantially parallel and the inner faces of each leg defining a meeting'edge forfrictionally engaging and holding a line bent through adjacent recesses and extended in the same general direction at each side thereof, and a lug projecting-from the pin adjacent the bight portions of the recesses in a direction substantially normal to the length of the body, and having an aperture in the direction of the body forV anchoring one end of a line substantially at a point in a plane perpendicularv to the body and closely adjacent the plane of the line passed through the recesses.

15. A line securing device comprising a bodyA having a-shank provided with a slot with an obtuse-angled bendA extending from one end and forming spaced legs, and an apertured earon one legin line with the central portion of the slot to secure the end-ofA a lineand anotherportion of the line extending through the slot to anchor the device on the line, the aperture of the ear being in line with and parallel to the axis of the body and shank, and all portions of said line being substantially in the same horizontal plane.

16. A device of the character described comprising a relatively cylindrical shank and an apertured ear outstanding thereon centrally and diametrically of the shank with the aperture extending longitudinally of the shank adapted to secure the end of a oord, said shank having a longitudinal slot therein forming legs adapted to secure said cord therein.

A device of the character described comprising a relatively cylindrical shank and an apertured ear thereon projecting outwardly therefrom at right angles to the axis of the shank to secure the end of a cord, the aperture of the ear extending in the direction of the length of the shank and said shank having an angular slot therein forming legs .adapted to secure said cord therein.

18. A line securing device comprising a body having a general cylindrical contour and a central end bore and radial slots merging therewith whereby to define spaced legs, and an outstanding apertured ear on the body adjacent the n crotches of the slots for receiving and anchoring one end of a line, said line when doubled on itself being extended angularly through the slots nearest the ear for holding the line taut and to adjustably anchor the device thereon.
