My invention relates to valve bags, more particularly to flat bottom bags, and its main object is to adapt this kind of bag for lling by means of a spout to be inserted'obliquely downwards into the bag which is maintained in substantially tion much smaller than valve section, which considerably diminishes bag filling speed. However the use of an oblique spout is necessary in the case of iilling a bag simply by gravity.
My inventionconsists inpart of an outer valve lip, composed of a member applied on the bottom l5 and su'iciently exible and elastic as to allow of its being forced back by action of an oblique lling spout and to return to its closing position after 4removing the spout.
20 One may utilize, for example, to this end a member of crepe paper fabric, flexible matter such as rubber, etc.
It has been already proposed to constitute, in
a manner similar to the aforesaid, the inner valve lip,.but it was thus endeavoured to ensure a better closing of the valve, while the aforesaid problem is quite different and nowise solved by this former particular means.
It is also a common practice in the aforesaid bags to constitute the outer bag lip, at least partially, by a member applied on the bottom and generally comprising a piece of pasteboard or strong paper, bufthat pieceA possesses' a, certain stiiness of its own and .it is further so 35 secured on the bottom as to act as if it were K a rigidly integral part of the bottom so that it 1s unable to play independently of the bottom.
Other objects of the present invention will appear from the following description of an em- 40 bodiment of my invention.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view with pieces partly broken away, of the end of a flat bottom valve bag improved according to my invention; f
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the outwardly viewed end of the same bag:-
Fig. 3ds also a perspective View ofA said bag, but shows the opposite end to that comprising the valve;
50 Fig. 4 is a cross section along the lvalve axis with filling spout in position, and
Fig. 5 is a horizontal .view of the filling spout alone.
In the embodiment shown, the bag-bottom is 55 formed ,in the usual manner by.:'the four over-` lapping panels I, 2, 3, '4A among vwhich panels I, 2, 3 are secured together by clips 5, while panel 4 remains free and forms the inner valve lip. This panel 4 applies inwardly on a partof panels 2 and 3, which partly form the outer valve lip. 'Ihe overlapping part of the inner and outer valve lips thusr constituted being too short to. ensure an adequate closing, there is applied be-- neath panels 2, 3 and secured to said panels by clips 6 a subsidiary panel.I But, whilst this panel 10 is usually formed bypasteboard and also secured to panels 2, 3 along edges AB and AC, it is constituted lierein, according to my invention by crepe paper and secured to panels 2, 3'by the single cross row of clips 6, the edges AB andAC remaining free.
In this way, the subsidiary panel v'l may be folded up, without injury, as shown byj Fig. 4, so as to give free passageito oblique filling spout 8. After removing the spout, panel 1 returns automatically by its own elasticity to its original closing position, as ,shown by Fig. 2 and thus -forms a part of outer valve lip.
In order to facilitate the forcing back of panel 1, the filling spout 8 may be advantageously provided with a projecting .member 9 shaped sub.- stantially as a stem. f l
It is to be understood that instead of crepe paper, many other materials might be used, even a relatively stiff material which would be so incised on the extension of line AA as to open towards the right and the left `like aps on thrust of spout 8 and particularly of stem 9, and so flexible as to fall back of itself after removing 35 spout 8.
Panel 1 might extend no farther than clips 6.
In the 'present vexample however its presence has ,obj ect of my invention.
According to this improvement clips Slare rst placed ln corners E and F at a certain distance from point A. It is easy to do so by passing the arm of the clip-fastener through A and the space above panel I0 and beneath panels Il and l2. 'I'hen clips 5v are placed along sides A'G and A'H as well as between-A and A', the clipfastener arm then passing through A and the space left free beneath panels li -and I2 and 55 above panef I3, Vsince theclips at corners E andF do not extend to point A. 'nie aperture left' in A forpasslng theclipastener arm is narrow and of bottom KL which otherwise would come behind spoutandhinderitsremnval. Furthermoreby. preventing these deformations of the valve it enturesaregulal-playoftbememilerl'vllhnseop-Y eration might be impairedby these deformations.
My invention is not intended of course to be 'limitedby the detailed construction shown and' described but only by the appended claims.
