This invention relates to improvements in Venetian blind constructions and more particularly to'improvements in guide pin assemblies therefor.
An object of the present invention is to pro- ,vide a guide pin assembly for Venetian blind slats, such assembly being efilcient in operation and being relatively inexpensive to manufacture! Another object of the invention is to provide a guide pin assembly of such character that it can be readily secured to the end of a sla't and cannot be readily removed therefrom.
A further object of the invention is to provide a guide pin assembly made up of a substantially U-shaped clip and a guide pin secured thereto, such clip being provided with preformed tongues which can be driven into the material of the slat to lock the clip to the slat.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a guide pin assembly made up of a substantially U-shaped clip and a pin secured thereto, in which assembly provision is made for offsetting the part of the pin secured to the clip so that the major portion of the bottom of the clip is in flat contact with the end of the slat when secured thereto.
Other features, objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent by reference to the following detailed description of the accompanying drawing illustrating the same, wherein:

Referring now to the drawing, it indicates generally the slats of a Venetian blind, such blind being constructed for the major part in accordance with conventional practice. fragment of which is shown, is mounted in con junction with a window in such fashion that the ends of the slats it are adjacent to, but spaced some distance from the window frame ii. It is to be understood that this arrange- 5 ment has been provided simply as an illustration of one type of guide channel and that other types can be used if desired.
The guide pin assembly incorporating the present invention comprises a substantially U-shaped clip member 2B having a guide pin 2! secured thereto. One leg of the clip 20 during the process v of manufacture is treated to provide score lines 22 which define a pair of tongues 24. The scoring indicated by the lines 22 can be carried out in any suitable fashion so long as the final result is the provision of weakened areas which can be displaced relativeto the body of theleg of the clip.
In order that pin 2i can be secured to the clip in such fashion that the end thereof will not protrude beyond the plane of the inner surface of bottom 25 of the clip 20, this bottom 25 has an intermediate portion 26 pressed outwardly from the general plane thereof, as shown clearly in Fig. 4. 'This portion 26 is provided with a central aperture 21 through which the end of pin 2i passes. The end part of pin ii is reduced in diameter corresponding to the diameter of aperture 2? so that passage of the pin through the aperture is limited by shoulder 28 of the pin. When the end of the pin has been properly seated in the aperture, the pin is locked to the clip by riveting or otherwise spreading the end of the pin over the inner surface of the portion 26, as indicated at 2t in Fig. 4. It will be observed that the. portion 26 is offset an amount sufllcient to permit the clinching of the end of the pin relative thereto with the final end of the pin being disposed outwardly a slight amount relative to the plane 38 of the inner surface of clip bottom 25.
The opposite end of pin 2| is provided with a flange 3i and if desired a pair of washers 82 are secured in place on the pin between the flange 3i and the clip 28. The flange 3| serves to retain 45 the pin 26 within the guide channel 82, as shown in Fig: 2, and if desired the washers 32 may be positioned on each side of the outer legs of the guide channel as shown in this same figure. These washers may be of any desired material such as fiber or the like to serve as friction bufiers and also to serve as partial noise eliminators.
The guide pin assembly made up of clip and guide pin can be secured to a slat It in the following manner. Assuming that the assembly is so in the condition shown in Fig. 5, the clip 29 is slipped over the end of a slat It until the inner surfaces of bottom 25 are in plane contact with the end of the slat. The clip usually is so dimensioned as to cause the legs thereof to grip the surfaces of the slat ID with a slight spring tension, thereby facilitating proper assembly or the elements and also facilitating the proper retention of the relative positions of the parts until locking canbe accomplished, The guide pin assembly can be locked to the slat by forcibly displacing the tongues 22 toward the opposite leg of the clip. Such displacement may be efiected by any suitable tool or tools such as an ordinary punch and a hammer. when the proper displacement has been accomplished, the displaced tongues 24 are forced into the material 'of the slat it) as shown in Fig. 3, in which position they serve,
as locks to prevent withdrawal of the clip from the slat.
It is to be noted that the clips prior to displacement have their surfaces lying in planes substantially common to the planes of the sur faces of the leg from which the tongues are struck, consequently, the tongues do not interfere with the insertion of the clip over the end of a slat. Also, the tongues, which as shown are of substantially rectangular shape, are so disposed that when they are displaced, the free ends thereof are directed toward the bottom of the clip and consequently toward the end of the slat.
I claim:
1. As an articleot manufacture, a guide-pin fitting for the end of a Venetian blind slat, said fitting comprising: a stamped sheet metal channel to embrace the end of the slat, the sides of the 5 channel being substantially parallel and being separated by a distance substantially equal to the thickness of the slat, and the bottom of the channel having a depressed center portion; attachment tongues stamped'from the metal of -at H) least one of the sides of the channel, the tongues lying substantially outside of the space between the sides of the channel and being adapted to be projected out of said position and into the slat after the fitting has been placed on the slat; and a guide pin having one end riveted to said stamping, the riveted end being located in said depressed center portion out of the main contour of the bottom of the channel.

As an, article of manufacture, a guide-pin fitting for the end of a Venetian blind slat, said fitting comprising: a stamped sheet metal channel to embrace the end of the slat, the sides of the channel being substantially parallel and being-sparated by a distance substantially equal to the thickness of the slat, and the bottom of the channel having a depressed center portion; elongated attachment tongues stamped irom the metal of at least one oi the sides of thechannek the tongues extending toward the bottom of the channel and lying substantially outside of the space between the sides of the channel and bein adapted to be projected out of said position and into the slat after the fitting has been placed on the slat; and a guide pin having one end riveted to said stamping, the riveted end being located in said depressed center portion out of the main contour of the bottom of the channel.
