This invention relates to land levelers and particularly to a finish leveler of the float type (as distinguished from the drag type) adapted for use after the initial or rough leveling has been 5 accomplished with other equipment.
The principal object of my invention is to provide a land leveler of the above type which is wheel-supported so as to reduce the frictional resistance of the leveler to movement along the ground and which, due to its relatively great length, is extremely efficient in 'working the ground to an accurately level surface.
A further object is to so construct and mount the leveler that no furrows or ridges will be made in the ground by the bowl'of the leveler when making turns, and without thenecessity of the operator raising the bowl clear of the ground when ,the leveler is thus turning.
A further object is to provide a leveler of this character arranged so that its length may be altered as the operating conditions may determine to bebest. A

These objects I accomplish by means of such structure and relative arrangement of parts as will fully appear by a perusal ofthe following specification and claims.
In the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views'. Fig. 1 is aside elevationv of the leveler in its relatively short form, the bowl being in its low- L ered operatingy position.

Fig. 4 is a fragmentary plan partly in section showing the connecting means between the main and extension frames of the leveler and a wheel 45 unit leveler showing the bowl control mechanism.
Referring now more particularly to-the characters of reference on the drawings, the main or. 50 permanent frame of the leveler includes horizontal side beams I spaced a suitable distance apart, of hollow form and preferably about thirty feet in 1ength. These beams are connected at intervals by cross-beams 2 and are braced against 55 longitudinal deflection or sag ina vertical frame 5 is a fragmentry transverse section of the Y by top and bottom truss frames 3, which include central posts 4.
The main frame'is supported at each end by a pair of ca stor wheels 5 mounted in connection with a cross-beam 6 4at such points thereon'that the 5 wheels'are substantially in line with the beams I.
The cross-beam Ii is provided with rigid horizontal tongues 1 positioned to projectinto the adjacent open end of the beams I so that the cross-beam and side beams are rigidly connected 10 together. A rigid rectangular frame structure is thus provided, at the four corners of which the wheels are disposed. The tongues are removably secured in place by suitable means, such as pins 8, projecting through' said beams I and the 15 tongues. The front cross-beam has depending arms Iii to which hauling chains Il or the' like may be connected, as shown in'Fig. 2.
Supported from the frame and disposed between i side beams I is the bowl or ground engaging 20 member of the leveler, which comprises a substantially semi-circular bowl portion I2, provided with forwardly projecting side wings I3. -These wings at their forward end and top are pivotally connected to brackets I4 secured on and depend- 25 ing from the beams I and positioned so that the cutting edge E of the bowl is. midway of the length 'of the wheel base when the wheels are in their `normal trailing position.
The cutting edge E of the bowl. is adjustable to 30 any desired working level, or the bowl as a whole raised well clear of the ground for transportation purposes by the following means. v

In operation, when the arms and links are in depending dead-center alinement, the cutting edge of the bowl is in a working position, and at a level determined by ,the level of the shaft, which may be adjusted to suit by adjusting thejournal boxes in the hangers. Rotation of the shaft is manually controlled and said shaft normally locked against rotation by a worm wheel 20 on the shaft engaged by'a Vworm 2|. This worm is rotated by a hand wheel 22, which is supported for vertical adjustment to match with that of the shaft, by suitable means such as cooperating relatively slidable bracket plates 23, one of which ismounted on the adjacent cross-beam 2 of the main frame, as shown in F18. 5'.

1. A land leveler comprising a main frame, a ground working member mounted on said frame, wheels supporting said frame at one end, an extension frame adapted to project from an inception at the opposite end of the main frame, means main-frame when said extension frame is removed. Y
