Description

July 12, 1938. H. c. ALTHEIDE SCALP OILER Filed Sept. 25, 1957 /7' Inventor flmzmezd Patented July 12, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention is a device especially designed as a means for applying an oil, tonic, or shampoo liquid to the scalp and the hair; and in accordance with the invention the device is in the form of a comb so as to convey the oil or tonic to the roots of the hair.
The invention together with its objects and ad-- vantages will be best understood from a study of the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the device.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1 and Figure 3 is an end elevational view of the device on a reduced scale.
Referring to the drawing by reference numerals it will be seen that in the preferred embodiment thereof the device comprises an oil or fluid reservoir 5 which is preferably constructed of some ductile material, preferably brass and is substantially rectangular in side elevational, and wedge shaped in end elevational, having the side walls 6-6 thereof gradually converging toward one end edge I of the reservoir.
At the end 1 of the reservoir the latter is open to conformably receive therein the head 8 of a comb member 9, the teeth ID of which are integral with the head 8.
The comb member 9 consisting of the head 8 and teeth I0 is formed of hard rubber, bakelite or any other suitable and analogous material.
The teeth 10 are tapered as shown and are hollow, each being provided with a longitudinal duct I l which communicates with the reservoir 5 through tapered opening I2 provided in the head 8 and in alignment with the teeth of the comb.
The reservoir 5 at one end thereof is provided with a filling neck l3 for which a cap I4 is provided.
It will be manifest that the reservoir 5 serves as a handle whereby to manipulate the comb as well as to contain the liquid, and to facilitate the expelling of the liquid or oil in thereservoir the walls 6 thereof are pressed inwardly, compressing as it were, the reservoir.
The walls 6 are normally urged outwardly relative to one another through the medium of a spring device I 5 which is formed from a rectangular sheet of metal or other suitable material bent into a substantial U to fit within the reservoir 5 as shown in Fig. 2 and at the closed end of the U the spring I5 is riveted or otherwise secured to the end wall 16 of the reservoir as at H.
From the above it will be seen that I have provided a device which is capable of being conveniently handled and thereby admirably serves as a medium for applying oil, tonic, or shampoo to the hair and scalp.
What is claimed is:--
1. A device for applying fluid to the scalp comprising a receptacle formed of spring metal and having an elongated substantially straight edge having an opening therein, a comb member including a head of elongated form and having tapered side edges and hollow teeth-extending from the small end of the head, said head having openings therein communicating with the teeth, said head fitting in the opening with the edge portions of the metal adjacent the opening bent over the tapered sides of the head.
2. A device for applying fluid to the scalp comprising a receptacle formed of spring metal and having an elongated substantially straight edge having an opening therein, a comb member including a head of elongated form and having tapered side edges and hollow teeth extending from the small end of the head, said head having openings therein communicating with the teeth, said head fitting in the opening with the edge portions of the metal adjacent the opening bent over the tapered sides of the head, said head and the teeth being formed of hard non-metallic material and an elongated substantially U-shaped spring metal member located in the receptacle and having portions of its limbs engaging the sides of the receptacle and means for attaching the bight part of said U-shaped member to that end of the receptacle opposite the edge having the opening therein.
HENRY C. ALTHEIDE.
