Description
y 1938. H. F. SCHROEDER- 2,123,383
RAZOR EDGE STROPPING DEVICE Filed April 16, 1934 INVENTOR Patented July 12, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
My invention to be hereinafter described relates to a new and useful improved stropper, which provides a means for stropping sharper razor edges and other sharp edged instruments,
5 but particularly designed for the razor blade stropping, and has for its primary object, to provide a very simple, economical and effective stropper for home use, which may be advantageously employed for stropping and also for the restropping of sharp ground razor edges.
Another object is to provide a hand stropper having no attachments or connections other than its leather strop being fastened to its base, and which is held in the one hand and the razor blade 16 is held and moved over the strop with the other hand.
A further object is to provide a means for engagement of the razor edge with the strop, in having the convex strop curvature which pro- 20 vides the clearance for the thumb and finger tips which hold the blade, and which also provides a free and smooth takeoff at the disengagement end of each stroke.
It is a further object of my invention to pro- 25 vide a means of construction at both ends and sides of the stropper so as to be of the same identity and of such uniformity in a stropper, that it may be employed to the very same and useful advantages by either right or left hand users.
30 It is also a further general object of my invention to materially simplify the construction and increase the efliciency of devices for the above purpose and thereby render the same strong and durable and capable of manufacture 35 at relatively small cost.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the improved construction, combination and relative arrangements of the several parts as will be hereinafter more fully de- 40 scribed, subsequently claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views and wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective View of the device.
45 Figure 2 is an end view thereof, showing the curvature of the leather strop as being fastened over the curved shoulder, and curbed to the ribs at the sides, and also as being vaulted over the wide channel on the upper part and over the mid- 50 dle of the base, together with the end opening of the shallow air passage duct formed by the vaulted strop closing the top of the channel.
The bottom of the base I, as in Figures 1 and 2, is bounded by the straight sides and is flat across 55 the width from corner to corner. The wide channel bottom line 2 is across the length of the base top and between the two chanel Walls H and 12,
as in Figures 1 and 2. The sides 1 and 8 extend from end to end and vertically from the bottom to the ribs 19 and 2!], as in Figures 1 and 2. The 5 air passage duct end 9, is a shallow passage over the top of the base, and it is formed by the leather strop being vaulted over the channel from shoulder iii to shoulder 22, as in Figure 2. The base end 13, as in Figure 2, and the opposite end 10 15, as in Figure 1, are the ends. The side grooves I! and I8 are the two grooves formed by the ribs 19 and 2B, and by the convex shoulders 2| and 22 as in Figures 1 and 2. The leather strop 23, which is mounted over the base top convexed from side to side and over the corners 3 and 4, as
in Figure 1, and also over 5 and 6, as in Figure 1, and together over to the four side end corners, the strop vertex line 24, being across the middle and over the length of the strop 23, as in Figures 1 and 2.
I have herein shown and described the preferred construction and relative arrangement of the several parts of the device, but it will of course be understood that the same are susceptible of considerable modifications and I therefore reserve the privilege of adopting all such legitimate changes as may be fairly embodied within the spirit and scope of the invention claimed.
I claim:
A razor blade sharpening device of the character described comprising a semi-flat and oblong base, having four similar and identical corners, and each being vertical to the ends and sides of the base, and also being at right angles with the flat bottom, and also with the ends and sides of said base, and the top of said base having a pair of sharp projecting lateral ribs, which being horizontal to both vertical sides and also forming the two sharp V-shaped side grooves, by the junction of a pair of convexed shoulders having a slightly inclined convexed line toward the middle of the base, and with the lower curvature ending at the. angle of the inner rib sides, and together forming the side groves, the top of-said base also having a wide channel groove across the middle of its length the ends of said base being provided with curved recesses to provide finger holds; the upper portion of the base adjacent the central portion thereof being provided with a slot; and a convex strop of flat, oblong and convex configuration, the ends of which are adapted to be received in the grooves.
