This invention relates to face protectors adaptable for use by persons employing irritating or harmful liquids or materials or wherever a person desires to protect the face, nose and eyes from some vcause and has for the primary object the provision of a device of this character which may be worn with comfort either with or without,
a hat and may be arranged to protect the face and eyes or simply to protect the eyes and in -either instance to permit clear vision to be had to be hereinafter more fully described and' claimed.
For a completeunderstanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which lFigure 1 is 'a front elevation illustrating a proi tector constructed in accordance with my invention and showing the same in an operative posi tion upon a person.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 ofFigure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3 3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on theline 4-4 of El'gure 3.
Figure 5 is a' detail sectiolial view illustrating a modified form of my invention.
Referring in detail "to the drawing, the nu' meral I indicatesa head encircling band equipped with cushion material 2 to engage the forehead of a person when worn.. Theband I is supportedon the headl by straps 3 which pass over the head. Secured to and depending from the band I is a frame 4 curved to follow the general contour of a,per'sons face and is arranged in front i of the eyes. 'I'he frame includes connected upper and lower channeled members 5 acting as guides.
ArrangedA at one end of the frame is a magazine '6 of any suitable construction for supporting vision material 1 in rolled form. The material 1 K, passes from the magazine through the guides of the frame to close the frame in front of the eyes and thereby protect the eyes still providing clear y severed by being brought into engagement with the cutting edge of the knife, consequently presenting before the eyes new material.'
An apron 9 of any desired material is detachably secured to the band and frame to depend downwardly in front of the face, preferably in loose form so as not to interfere with the person breathing. However, this device may be employed without the apron 9 when only desiring to protect the eyes.
Referring to my modied lform of invention, the knife 8 is eliminated and a magazine I0 is substituted in lieu thereof and located in the magazine I0 is a spool II detachable from and .operated by a key I2 so that the material 1 may be `wound onto the spool vwhen desiring to position new material in front of the eyesof the user.
Having described the invention, I jclaim:
1. A face protector comprising a head supporting harness including a brow band adapted to be positioned about the brow and above the eyes` of a wearer, a frame defining a vision area and having upper and lower guide members and end members, said `upper guide member contactually secured to said band and supported thereby, said end y,members connecting said guide members together-in spaced relation whereby to position said lower guide member below the eyes of the l wearer, a magazine attached to one end of said frame, ilexible transparent material carried by said magazine and extending within said guide members in front of the eyes to act as a protector therefor, said material movable lengthwise of said frame for presenting a clear visionv area thereof in front of said eyes, a knife attached to the opposite end of said frame whereby material having a clouded area drawn from in front of said eyes may be severed.
2. A face protector comprising a head supporting harness Aincluding a brow band adapted to be positioned about the brow and above the eyes of a wearer, a frame defining a vision area and having upper, and lower guide members and end;` members, said upper guide member contactually secured to said band and supported thereby, said end members connecting said guide members together in spaced relation whereby to position said lower guide member below the eyes of the wearer, a magazine attached to one end of said frame, flexible transparent material carried by said magazine and extending withinl said guidepmembers in front of the eyes to actas a protector therefor, said material movable lengthwise of said frame for presenting al clear vision areathereof in front of said eyes,`a knife attached to the opposite end of said frame whereby material having a clouded area drawn from in removably secured to the frame and harness for protecting the face of the wearer laterally of and below the eyes.
