Description

May 3, 1938. H. BlscHoFF 2,116,354
MAGNETO Filed Sept. 9, 1935 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Unvenor K Patented May 3, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEy MAGNETO Application September 9, 1935, Serial No. 39,872 In Germany September 18, 1934 ClaimS. (Cl. 171-209) The present invention relates to magnetos which are provided with`a distributor for two separate ignition circuits driven by a transmission drive and more particularly to those havinga stationary amature and magnet system, and a rotating conducting member. l
In order to provide a simple compact magneto of the type just described and to obtain a minimum lateral loading of the distributor and its 10 drive, according to the invention the distributor and its transmission gearing are arranged substantially coaxially with the magneto rotor.
An example of construction of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in
which:-
Figure 1 shows a twin magneto in longitudinal section on the line I-I of Fig. 2,
Figure 2 is a sectional -view on the line II--II of Fig. 1, and
2o Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view, similar to Fig. 1, taken on the line 3--3 of Fig. 2.
The magneto consists of two armatures a and two magnets b which are combined to form a stationary system, and a rotating flux conducting 425 member c which is positioned on the driving shaft d of the magneto.
The shaft projects beyond the conducting member and is mounted in bearings v near its end. Surrounding this portion of the shaft, is arranged so a distributing device e and an interrupter, the driving cams of which are positioned on the shaft.
. II'he distributor consists of two rotating distributor elements g and gnwhich are mounted axially side by side on a tube h, which is fixed to the distributor casing i, and whose axis is eccentric to the axis of the magneto shaft d. The distributor elements are xed on a rotatable bush k; At the inner end of the bush a gear-wheel o with internal teeth is secured by fianging over the 40 edge of the bush, which gear-wheel meshes with a toothed wheel p having external teeth, which is secured to the magneto shaft d. 'I'he distributor elements g and g1 have slip-rings q, to which the high tension magneto current of the armature 45 a is led by connections u. Electrodes r are connected to the slip-rings, and conduct the magneto current to the electrodes s of a stationary `distributor disc t.
I declare that what I claim is: 5o 1. A magneto comprising a stationary armature, a stationary magnet system, a rotary magn'eto shaft, a flux conducting member connected to said shaft. two rotatable distributor elements for separate ignition circuits arranged axially side $5 by side and eccentrically of said shaft, means centrically thereof,
independent of -and surrounding a portion of said magneto shaft for mounting said distributor ele-I ments for rotation about said shaft, an internally toothed ring connected to said distributor elements and a gear-wheel mounted on the magneto 5 shaft and meshing with said internally toothed ring for driving said distributor elements.
2. In a magneto having a rotating magneto shaft, two rotatable distributor elements for separate ignition circuits arranged axially side 10 by side and eccentrically of said shaft, a stationary tube arranged eccentrically of and Surrounding said shaft and rotatably mounting said rotatable distributor elements, an internally toothed ring connected to said distributor elel5 ments and a gear-wheel mounted on the magneto shaft and meshing with said internally toothed ring for driving said distributor elements.
3. In a magneto having a rotating magneto shaft, two rotatable distributor elements for separate ignition circuits arranged axially side by side and eccentrically of said shaft, a stationary tube arranged eccentrically of and surrounding said shaft, a rotatable bush mounted on said tube and to which said distributor elements g5 are fastened, an internally toothed ring connectedl to said bush and a gear-wheel mounted on the magneto shaft and meshing with said internally toothed ring for driving said distributor elements.
