Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.,
FREDERICK KRAEMER, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
BATHING APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 21,138, dated August 10, 1858.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK KRAEMER, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Bathing Apparatus or Device; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the an* neXed drawings, making apart of this specification, in which- Figure 1, is a vertical central section of my invention. Fig. 2, is a plan or top view of dit-to.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the two figures.
The object of this invention is to obtain within reasonable dimensions a bathing device whereby a complete bath may be taken or, the body be completely immersed equally as well as in large bathing houses.
The invention is designed to be used in private houses and to be a portable aiiair thatmay be moved from place to place with facility and fitted up as occasion may require.
To enable those skilled in the artto fully understand and construct my invention I will proceed to describe it.
A, represents a bath tub which may be constructed of cast iron or sheet metal of cylindrical form. The tub is not a perfect cylinder, but may be described as being formed of two semi-cylinders a., Z), of different diameters connected together and forming a jog or recess to receive steps c, as shown clearly in Fig. 2. The tub may be about 4 feet in height and 3 feet in diameter and a ring d, may be supported by rods e, at a suitable height to form a framing for a curtain or screen f, see Fig. l.
If desired a Hanch g, may project all around from the external surface of the tub to form a bearing or support for the same 1n case it is let into the flooring.. See Fig. l, in which g', represents aI flooring. In the latter case no steps would be required at the outer side of the tub as its top would not be much above the flooring, but in case the tub is placed on the floor steps would be necessary at the outer side. In either case the steps c, would be necessary within the tub.
The tub A, is supplied with water, hot and cold, through tubes, the cocks h, of which are shown in Fig. l.
B, is the discharge valve which communicates with a proper waste pipe.
By constructing the bath tub as shown a person may bathe equally as well as in large baths or in o-pen streams or rivers. The form of the tub permits aI person to readily immerse his body and the operation of bathing may be performed with far greater facility than by the usual bathing tubs in which a person must lie at full length in order to. be immersed. The usual tubs occupy considerable space on the Hoor and owing to their low sides water will unavoidably be scattered on the floor provided the tub has a. necessary o-r proper supply. By my improvement these objections are obviated. My invention can be constructed equally as cheap as the ordinary tubs.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let* ters Patent, is,
The tub A, constructed of two semi-cylindrical portions a, Z), connected together as shown in connection with the steps c, supply cocks z, lz., and discharge valve B, the whole forming a new and improved article or apparatus for the purpose specified.
