The principal object of the invention is to provide a simple and effective broiler construction having a food support adapted to be'adjusted in elevation from outside the stove and which is withdrawable and removable from within the stove.
AAnother object is to provide a broiler construction in which a broiler frame is withdrawably mounted within the broiler compartment and is adjustable as to elevation under the control of mechanism associated with and operable from the exterior of the broiler compartment.
A further object is to provide a broiler construction in which a removable broiler frame is adjustable as to elevation within a broiler compartment by means of mechanism fixed to and operable from the exterior of the broiler compartment Whichautomatically disengages from the broiler frame on removal thereof from the compartment and automatically reengages on replacement. l

In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate a preferred embodiment of the invention, a stove constructed in accordance with the present invention is indicated generally at I0. Included in this stove is a broiler` compartment indicated generally by the numeral I I, having a bottom wall I2, rear wall I3, top wall I4, and side walls I5 and I6, these walls preferably being double as shown with heat insulating material therebetween. Front Wall I1 hasan opening I8, which is of sufficient size to receive the broiler frame, indicated generally at 20, and associatedv parts. Closure I9 is provided to close opening I8, and is preferably rigidly attached to broiler frame 20, and
movable longitudinally therewith, these parts being so related that closure I9 closes the compartment when frame 20 is in itssoperative position:

Broiler frame 20 provides a base on which the food supporting mechanism is mounted for cooperative relation, at various elevations, with respect to heat source 2|. In the embodiment shown, the frame 20 comprises a bottom plate 22 which is formed of sheet metal and provides a surface for collecting any food material that may fall during cooking. The sides of bottom plate 22 terminate in upturned flanges 23, which are preferably formed integrally with the bottom plate 22 and secured at the four corners as by spot welding. These flanges serve to form with bottom plate 22 a tray protecting other parts of the broiler from food particles, and also serve as atjtaching means for the closure and other associated parts. The rearwardly facing portion of flange 23 is provided with an upstanding reinforcing vplate 24, which extends across the entire width of the broiler chassis, and upwardly to a point somewhat belowthe level of the top of opening I8. Supported from this reinforcing plate 24 are side bearing plates yor brackets 25, which are located on either side of broiler chassis 20 and extend from the top of reinforcing plate 24 to bottom plate 22, where they are fastened. These bearing plates or brackets 25, are located somewhat inwardly of the side portions of flanges 23, to provide the necessary clearance space for the food supporting mechanism to be described below.
The broiler frame 20 and its associated parts is provided with means .for their withdrawal. In
the embodimentlshown, this is accomplished by the use of two pairs of rollers and a pair of track members. Forward rollers 30 are supported from bottom wall I2 of the broiler compartment by means of brackets 3|. These brackets. carry bearing pins 32 on which rollers 30 are mounted, and are located at the forward or open end of the broilercompartment, and so placed laterally as to underlie the edges of bottom plate 22 `of the broiler frame 20. Movable rollers 33 are mounted on the broiler frame sides, and at the rearward portion thereof, by means of stub shafts 34 fastened at the rearward portion of the sides of flange 23.v These rollers engage tracks 35 which are iixedly attached to the side wallsof the broiler compartment. It is also apparent that Athe rollers on the same side of the frame are displaced laterally, thusallowing the broiler frame to be completely withdrawn without the two sets of rollers Vinterfering each other. It is preferred to form this pan Vsupport from a U-shaped strip of lsheet metal, the sides of the U forming the side portions and the integral extensions 4H,VY the .side Y portions being joined by cross piece 42, which is preferably inturned at the ends and weldedto the side portions of support 40. The rearward ends of .extensions 4I carry inwardly facing. pins 43 which are received in curved slots 44 formed in each of the bearing brackets. 25V and thus provide for limiting longitudinal movement of the support while providing for adjusting the elevation thereof. The forwardends of the side pieces of broiler pan support 40 are pivotally connected' at 45-V to arms 46, which extend downwardly and rearwardly andV have their rearportions pivotedat 41 to brackets 25. This construction is such that as the inner end of the support 40 is moved or adjusted to any prede-VY termined elevation, the arms provide for maintaining the entire structure 40 inra substantially horizontal position, and at the elevation determinedbythe adjustment of ,the inner end. insure movement of the structure in this path and the prevention of any twisting, stabilizer cross bar 50 is employed. Thisbar extends across the entire width of the Vbroiler chassis 20 and is journalled onV either side in holes 5I formed in brackets 25, and has'itsipo'rtions outward of these supports forwardly turned at 52. The Vends of these forwardly'turnedV portions have projections extending inwardly as shown at 53, and these. are receivedin slots 54 which areformed by depending U-shaped brackets 55 attached Vto the rearward portions of the side pieces of broiler pan support 40. It will be understood that stabilizer bar 50 serves to maintain both sides of the frame at the same elevation throughout adjusting Vmovements thereof and provides for obtaining a Vfirm andrigid structureV which can be fabricated from light weight sheet metal parts.

The operating member 52 is formed with a pair of downwardly extending fingers 63, lying respectively on opposite sides of Va vertical axis through pivot 6|. A shaft 64 is rotatably mounted within reinforcing member 'Bll), the Aouter Vend extending to the exterior of the oven compartment upon which is fastened the manually s adjustable knob 65. The inner end of the'shaft has fixed thereto Van eccentrically formed camming Vmember 66 which is positioned between i and'iri' operative engagement with the fingers 63.

'As' the broiler structure is further moved into Aposition vwithin the compartment, roller 58 automatically engages directly within the guide 59, Whatever the position of adjustment thereof. Similarly rollers 3i) engage and support bottom plate 22. If the adjusting mechanism has been actuated to raise the inner-end of guide 59, the further movement of the broiler assembly into the compartment will result in the gradual; lifting of the broiler pan support up to the desired nal operative position. Suitable means may be provided for yieldingly retaining the broiler assembly in its inner'V operative position, and in a withdrawn position providing for access to the broiler pan support.
'I'hus the invention provides a mechanism operable for adjusting the elevation of a broiler pan support, the mechanism being highly effective in operation and simple in construction.' Adjustment of the elevation is effected by means of a control member mounted upon a stationary part of the stove, and interconnecting means for effecting adjustment in the elevation of the broiler assembly, while at the same time permitting immediate and unencumbered withdrawal of such broiler assembly from the compartment.
While the form of apparatus herein described constitutes a preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to this precise form of apparatus, and that changes may be made therein without departing from the scope of the invention which is defined in the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. In a stove of the character described having a broiler compartment, a food supporting frame,
,a carriage for supporting said frame providing for the withdrawal thereof from said compartment, means mounted on said carriage for adjusting the elevation of said food supporting mechanism throughout a range of positions, a control member positioned on a fixed wall of said compartment, and automaticallydetachable connections between said control member and said adjusting means for positioning said food supporting mechanism at any selected elevation.
2. In a stove ,of the character described and having a broiler compartment, a broiler frame received in said broiler compartment, a closure for said broiler compartment carried by said frame, means providing for the withdrawal of said broiler frame from said broiler compartment, said frame including brackets at an end opposite said closure having guiding slots formed therein, a broilerY pan support having extensions received in said slots, arms pivotally connected to said support and to the broiler frame, said slots and said arms providing for movement of said pan support through a range of substantially parallel positions, a control member mounted on a xed portion of said broiler compartment and operable from the exterior there- ,broiler pan supporting member, connections supporting said member from said broiler frame and providingfor varying the elevation of said member throughout a range of parallel positions,
equalizing means for causing both sides of the frame to move together, an adjustable guide member mounted on a Xed portion of said broiler compartment, an external control member for controlling the position of Vsaid guideV member, and interconnecting means between said guide member and said equalizing means to effect changes in the elevation of said frame in kresponse to changes in the setting of said control member.

In a stove of the character described having a'broiler compartment, a food supporting mechanism and means providing for the withdrawal of said food supporting mechanism from said broiler compartment, adjustable elevating means for said food supporting mechanism, a control; shaft rotatably mounted on afixed wall of said broiler compartment. and projecting therethrough, an external control member on the outer portion of said shaft, cam means 0n the interior portion rof said shaft, an adjustable guide member, follower means on said guide member cooperating with said'camn'ieans'to adjustably position said guide member in re- Y sponse to movements of said control member, and interconnecting means between said elevating means and said guide member for varying the elevation of said food supporting mechanism in response to changes in the position of said control member.

In a stove of the character described and having a broiler compartment, food supporting mechanism comprising a movable broiler pan supporting frame and link means limiting the movement of said frame to a range of parallel positions of varying elevation, means providing for the withdrawal of said food supporting mechanism from said broiler compartment, an inclined guide member mounted on a wall of said broiler compartment, means for varying the inclination of said guide member, and connector means on said food supporting mechanism engaging said guide member providing for adjustment of the elevation of said mechanism in accordance with the position of said guide member.

In a stove of the character described and having a broiler compartment, food supporting mechanism comprising a movable broiler pan supporting frame and link means limiting the movement of said frame to a range of parallel positions of varying elevation, means providing for the withdrawal of said food supporting mechanism from said broiler compartment, an 'adjustable guide member rotatably mounted on a wall of said broiler compartment with its axis of rotation adjacent an end of said guide member, control means for adjusting the position of said guide member, connector means on said food supporting mechanism engaging said guide member to vary the elevation of said food supporting mechanism in response to changes of position of said guide member, the end of said guide memtioned-that said connector means is in its lowermost lposition when it reaches this end of said guide member during withdrawal of said food supporting mechanism.
