GEORGE WV. ATKINS, OF MILTON, DELAWVARE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SAW-FILE HOLDERAND GAGE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 210,076), dated Novemlmr 19, 1878; application filed October 18, 1878.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. ATKINS, of Milton,iu the county of Sussex and State of Delaware, have invented a certain new and useful Saw-File Holder and Gage; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this. specification, in which- Figure I is a perspective, showing the manner of using the device. Figs. 2 and 3 are detail views. Fig. 4. is a perspective of tool, showing end cap remover The object of this invention is to provide a hand-saw sharpener, with convenient and simple means for adjusting the file to any required cant, so as to accommodate it to the teeth of various sizes and shapes, and for holding the file at the proper adjustment, so as to insure uniforl'nity of work.
My invention accordingly consists in providing a saw-sharpener having a file adapted to turn on its axis, with an adjustable b 'acket or bearing supporting one end of the file, and furnished with a key or other suitable contrivance for retaining said bracket at any point of adjustment corresponding to the required cant of the file, as hereinafter described.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the file-holder and tooth-gage, provided with a suitable handle, B, and with a socket, b, for the reception of the file-shank, and an aperture, b, for the passage of the outer end of the file b 0 is a bracket, having a triangular socket, a, to receive the outer end of the tile, which is rigidly secured therein by a set-screw, 0, and having also a segmental slot, (1, through which passes a screw-stud, e, projecting from the end of the file-holder. -Upon said stud is fitted a nut or key, 1), by which the bracket is clamped and held fast.
The bracket is adapted to swing on the axis of the file, which turns with it when the former is moved. Thus the cant of the file maybe regulated, and any desired. angle of its cutting-side maintained, the locking being effected by means of the clamping-nut D.
By removing the nutD the file and bracket may be taken off, and byremoving the screw 0 the file may be withdrawn to admit of the use of a substitute of ditt'erei'it size or grade.
What I claim as my invention is 1. The con'ibination, with the saw-file holder and gage A, of the segmentally-slotted bracket 0, screw-stud c, and nut or thumb-screw D, said bracket being adapted to receive one end of the file b thereby rendered adjustable upon its axis, as described.
2. The improved saw-fileholder and gage consisting of the handle B, gage and holder A, havingits ends bent and provided with a socket and opening, I) b, for the file, and the segmentally-slotted bracket 0, having a socket to receive the outer end of the file, and a setscrew or other fastening, c, the gage and holder A being provided with the screw-stud c, holding-nut, or thumb-screw D, as described.
3. The combination, with the saw-file holder and gage A-and slotted bracket (J, of the file b adjustable on its axis to regulate its cant, as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 10th day of October, 1875.
GEORGE IV. ATKINS.
