UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
CHARLES GALIGHER, OF OAIRO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN MlLLSTONE-CURB AND CHOP-CONVEYER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 210,021, dated November 19, 1878; application filed August 19, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES GALIGHER, of Cairo, in the county of Alexander and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Flour-Mill, of which the following is a specification:
lhe invention will first be described in connection with the drawings, and then pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a vertical section of a flour-mill constructed in accordance with my invention; and Fig. 2 is a plan at the line as w.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
A represents the mill-spindle, that is fitted in a suitable frame-work, as usual, and carries on its upper end the driver and cross-head n, for supporting and driving the running stone 0.
(Z is a cast-iron plate or support beneath the bed-stone c. This plate d is cast or provided with a curb, f, and has leveling-screws g, for leveling the bed-stone; and the curb f has centering screws 71., whereby the stone 6 is centered and held firmly in position.
'The plate d and stone 0 are supported by the flanges i, (see Fig. 2,) cast with d, and the stud plate is cast more or less open. I have shown the same with openings k, which come next to the skirt of the stone, and afford a free passage for the meal.
Z is a hopper, attached beneath the plate d,
for receiving the meal as it falls from the stones.
I make the hopper Z larger in diameter than the curb f, so that its edges will comeoutside of f, and there will be a space between the curb f and the hopper, which space permits the miller to feel and examine the meal at every side of the stone.
at is the curb for the upper stone, that rests upon the upper edge of curb f, and may be held in place by lugs, or in any other desired manner. A hopper is to be provided, and a feeding device connected therewith, as usual.
It will be seen that the meal cannot choke up or become clogged in any manner, but falls freely from the vicinity of the stones as soon as it comes out from between them. Access of air is thus permitted to the stones, and the flour is not injured by detention between the grinding-surfaces or by friction against the stone and curb.
Having thus described myinven tion, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In a grinding-1nill,the curb 1'', provided with the supporting bed-plate d, having the skirtapertures k, in combination with the discharge hopper Z and the bed-stone e, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
CHAS. GALIGHER.
