3 Claims.
Another object'of this invention is to provide a mounting for an electric motor which mounting is adapted to absorb the usual motor hum.
Another object of this invention is to provide an electrically driven refrigerator in which the motor is isolated from the rest of the machinery by rubber or other sound-deadening means.
15 Another object of thisinvention is to providea mounting for a motor-driven compressor, which mounting is adapted to absorb the vibrations of the compressor and the hum of the motor.
A further object of the invention is to provide 20 an improved adjustable mounting for maintain- 4 ing taut the driving means between the motor and the compressor.
Further objects and advantages of the. present invention will be apparent from the following 25 description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, wherein apreferred form of the present invention is clearly shown.

compartment 2| is constructed as a subassembiy which-can be attached-to and removed from the structure 28 as a unit. This assembly or unitary structure includes the partition wall 23, comprising .a front rail II, a rear rail (not shown) and side rails I3, and 14. A frame comprising the front rail 15, a rear rail (not shown) and side rails "I8 and I9 are carried respectively below rails TII, I3, and I4. These frames constitute the removable base of the machine compartment 22. 10 Insulatingmaterial such as cork-board 88 is carried within these frames. A sheet metal plate 82 is secured on the under side of rails 16 and I9.
\ This plate forms the top wall of the compart I ment 21 and is utilized to assist in maintaining the cork-board 80 in position. Rails 13 and I4 rest respectively on rails 42 and 43, there being strips of .soft insulating material such as a felt gasket 83 disposed between said rails to seal the joint.
The compressor 25 and the motor 26 are carried by a base 85. This base includes parallel extending angle irons 88 and 81 which are connected by cross bars or strips 88 and 89. A motor base'plate 94 is suitably secured to angle irons 86 25 and 81 by bolts 95. This motor mounting includes rubber bushings 95 which receive a rod 91. A U-shaped bracket 98 is carried by the rod 91 and supports the gmotor 26 and the bushings 96 are maintained inposition by retainers 99 which are 30 secured to the plate 94. By virtue of this construction the rod 91 and likewise the motor 26 pivot about the bushings 96. The compressor herein shown is substantially the same as that shown in my copending application, Serial No. 179,955, filed March 31, 1927, now- Patent 1,789,978. The crankcase I08 of the compressor 25 is provided with outwardly extending lugs IIII by which it is secured to the angle irons 86 and 81. These lugs are disposed adjacent the. 40 crankshaft I03 of the compressor so as to minimize vibration: The rear end of the motor 26 carries the fan (not shown) and a pulley I05'and the rear end of the compressor 25 carries a pulley I84; these pulleys are connected with a belt 185. A portion of the cork 8|)- and the rail I3 are cut away to provide clearance for the flywheel I04. One end of a brace I82 is secured to the crankcase of the compressor by a compressor mounting bolt and the other end thereof extends .within a bushing of shock absorbing material such as rubber Illla. This bushing is carried by a bracket I81 which is secured to the motor 26.
Nuts Hill) on the threaded brace I02 and on opposite sides of the bushing I81 provide means for positioning the motor to adjust the belt tension and hold said motor in the adjustedposition. The rubber bushing I01 absorbs vibrations and thereby prevents transmission of vibration from the motor to the base 85.
The base 85and the apparatus carried thereby, including the motor and compressor, are suspended from a floating support at the center of oscillation of such apparatus. This support includes a metal plate I08 which is secured to rails Ti and 12. A bracket I09 is secured to the plate by rivets H0. This bracket extends upwardly and is provided with outwardly extendingarms Ill and H2. Springs H3 and H4 depend, respectively, from the arms HI and H2 and the spring I I3 is connected with the angle iron 86 by a short strip H6, while the spring H4 is connected with an ear ll'l secured to the angle iron 81 by an adjustable bolt I [5.
For steadying the base 85 and for preventing excessive oscillation thereof, the base 85 is provided at one end with the springs [2! which conmeet the base 85 with the side frame 13 and is provided at the other end with the springs I25 which connect the other end of the base 85 with the side frame 14.
While the form of embodiment of the invention as-herein disclosed constitutes a preferred form, it is to be understood that other forms might be adopted, all coming within the scope of the claims which follow.
What is claimed is as follows:
1. In combination, a base, a driving device and a driven device mounted upon the base, one of said devices being pivotally mounted, pulley and belt driving means connecting the driving and the driven device, said pivotal mounting having its axis parallel to the axis of rotation of one of the pulleys of the pulley and belt driving means and a brace extending from the base to saidpivotally mounted device for holding said pivotally mounted device in a position in which said belt driving means is maintained taut, said brace including a substantially straight rod, a bushing of rubberlike material threaded upon the rod, nuts threaded on the rod located on the opposite sides of the rubber-like bushing for holding the bushing in place uponv the rod, and means extending 1 and a brace connected at one end to the base and extending to a portion above the rockable mounting of said rockably mounted device for holding saiddevice in a position to maintain the belt driving means taut, said brace being a substantially straight member, and a resilient adjustable connection connecting said brace and said rockably mounted device.

In combination, a horizontal base, a driving device and a driven device mounted upon and above said base, one of said devices being provided with a rockable mounting between it and the base, said rockable mounting being provided with vibration absorbing and sound deadening means, pulley and belt driving means connecting the drivingand the driven devices, said rockably mounted device being rockable upon an. axis parallel to the axis of rotation of one of the pulleys of the pulley and belt means, and a brace incorporating sound deadening and vibration absorbing means connected at one end to the base and extending diagonally between said devices, said brace being substantially straight and having an adjustable connection connected to a portion above the rockable mounting of said rockably mounted device for holding said device in a posi'- tion to maintain the belt driving means taut HARRY HULL.
