FEEDING DOLL Filed Dec. 24, 1936 INVENTOR.
ATTORNEY.
Patented Oct. 19, 1937 UNITED STATES FEEDING DOLL:
Julius Weih, Ozone Park, N. Y. Application December 24, 1936, Serial No. 117,473
10 Claims.
This inventionrelates to feeding dolls, and has for one of its'objects the provision of such a doll having a rotatable member mounted in the interior of the head thereof, which, when actuated for rotation will sweep or wipe off any food particles on a spoon or other eating implement into the mouth of the said doll.
Another object of the invention is the provision of such a doll having a conduit located directly under the said rotatable member and terminating in a food holding receptacle near the bottom of the doll body for holding any food articles fed to the doll.
A further object of the invention is to provide the said food holding receptacle with an exit opening through which it may be'emptied of such food particles when the doll is laid on its back or held with its back facing downwardly.
A still further object is the provision of spring detent means for holding the rotatable member in position ready to be actuated for rotation. 7
Yet another object of the invention is the provision of a doll embodying my improvements; said doll having a movable arm holding a spoon or the like which may be made to pick up food particles and by manipulation of the arm carry same to the mouth of the doll where the spoon is forced against a tongue simulating vane or blade on the rotatable member to rotate same through an arc sufiiciently great enough so that a second'blade on the rotatable member may sweep the food from the spoon into the conduit.
Another object is to produce a device of the character described in which the maximum simplicity of construction and operation is secured.
Other objects and advantages will appear as the nature of the improvements is better understood, the invention consisting substantially in the novel arrangement and co-relation of parts herein fully described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein "similar reference characters are used to describe corresponding parts throughout the several views, and then finally pointed out and specifically defined and indicated in the appended claims.
The disclosure made the basis of exemplifying the present inventive concept suggests a practical embodiment thereof, but the invention is not to be restricted to the exact details of this disclosure, and the latter, therefore, is to be understood from an illustrative, rather than a restrictive, standpoint.
The inventive idea involved is capable of receiving a variety of mechanical expressions, one
of which, for the purpose of'illustration, is shown in the accompanying drawing, in which'-* Figure l is a fragmental front elevation of a doll embodying my invention;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view thereofon line 2-2 :5 Fig. 1 with someof the parts shown in end elevation;
Fig. .3 is an enlarged sectional view of the rotatable tongue simulating member, the supporting bracket therefor and conduit, and also show- 210 ing the spring detent for maintaining the said rotatable member inposition.
Fig. 4 is a top plan-view partly in section taken on line 4- 4 Fig. 2 with the mouth opening of .the doll shown at the top and the rear wall of I the rotatable member supporting bracket at the bottom of'said view. i I
Fig. 5 is a cross sectional view of a modified form of the rotatable member.
Referring now to the drawing in detail It) in- 52 dicates a doll having a body ll provided with jointed arms l2 only one of which is shown, and a hollow head l3. The arm l2 may be articulated at the shoulder l4, elbow l5, and wrist l6.
Secured to the interior of the head is a bracket I! in the side arms l8 of which there is rotatably mounted a shaft to which is suitably secured a spoked member 20 preferably made of suitable rubber, the said member having tongue simulating blades or vanes 2|, the said member 20 being held against accidental rotation by means of a detent 22 secured to one end of a'sprin'g 23 suitably secured to thebracket I1.
The bracket I1 is provided with a bottom wall 24 having an opening 25 in which there is located the funnelshaped'mouth 26 of a conduit 21 provided at the bottom thereof with a food receiving receptacle 28 having an'exit 29 extending outwardly through the rear of the doll body [I The bracket sidewalls l8 may each be provided'with 40 ears 3!] through each of which a nail or pin '3] may be driven to secure the bracket to the head 13 at and directly to the rear of the mouth opening 32 of the doll head. i
To adapt the doll so that it may pick up food, one hand 34 thereof may be provided with a spoon 'or other implement 35. With particles of food in the spoon 35, the arm l2 may be manipulated so that the said spoon is brought into the mouth opening 32 and pressed against one of the tongue simulating vanes or blades 2|. The pressure thus exerted against the said blade will cause the member 20 to rotate through a ninety degree angle in the direction of the arrow 36 Fig. 3. During the aforementioned rotation the upper blade 2| will sweep or wipe the food 37 out of the spoon 35 into the conduit 21 through its mouth opening 26. The food particles 31 will pass through the conduit and come to rest in the receptacle 28. When the said receptacle is full; it may be emptied by turning the doll so that the exit 29 points downwardly.
In Fig. 5, I have shown a modified form of the food wiping or sweeping member. In this form of my invention the said sweeper comprises a hub- 40 which may be made of wood, composition or other rigid material and may be provided with extensions or fins 4! each supporting a wiper member or strip 12 made of pliable material such as felt, rubber, etc. etc.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have which will hold the interest and amuse children as well as grownups. a I
I desire it understood that the tongue simulating or food wiper mechanism may be installed into dolls in which the arms are not articulated and the doll may be fed and the said wiper mechanism may be operated directly by the child.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1.
