The handling and transport of the paper coils is most cumbersome, because they become warped and deformed, and particularly, are liable to develop bulges on their front surfaces. The tendency to deformation is in direct proportion with the diameter of the coil and in inverse proportion with the width of the loosely wound strip of paper forming the coil. The reason Why the strip of paper has to be wound loosely, is because in case of winding it closely the strip of paper would become distended and the creping would disappear. v
The tendency to deformation sets an upper limit to the coil diameter. From paper strips of narrow width (e. g. of a width of to l2 mm.) it is only possible to produce coils of smaller diameter, i. e. coils the diameter of which does not exceed 2O cm. Coils of such a diameter are, however, not economical, because they will be used up more quickly and thus a new paper coil will have to be inserted into the plug-making machine at more frequent intervals than in the case of employing coils of greater diameter.
In order to avoid this drawback, the invention proposes a type of coil which is subject to a smaller amount of deformation than the kinds of coil used up to now, and can at the same time be handled and transported more easily than the latter. Y
The invention relates to supply rolls for smoke filters being composed of small corrugated strips of paper loosely wound so as to form coils, the diameter of which are at least twenty times the width of the strip. The characteristic feature of the invention consists in that two coils are mounted on a common core having their side surface in Contact, said coils having adhesive thereon upon the side surfaces not in contact.
The diminished tendency to deformation of coils according to the invention is due to the adhesion between the front surfaces in mutual contact.
(Cl. G-58) The invention enables coils of normal diameter (e. g. having a diameter of cm. or more) to be produced from strips of narrow width (e. g. from strips having a width of 11 mm. or even less) without any of the drawbacks enumerated above presenting themselves.
The layer of adhesive applied on one of the front surfaces of the coils prevents any collapse of the coils.
The drawing shows by way of exampler a side elevation and partly a section of the double coil according to the invention.
Two coils b being composed of small corrugated strips of paper loosely wound are arranged on a common hollow core a. The diameter of the coils b is at least twenty times the width of the strip. The front surfaces of the coils facing each other are in mutual contact. The outer coil front surfaces are coated with adhesive.
It has been proposed to arrange toilet paper ual rolls and cores on the weakened portions of the 9 hollow cardboard core between successive rolls.
This arrangement is different from the coil according to the invention in which only a single core is used.
What I claim is:
1. A supply roll for smoke'lters comprising a core, a pair of coils mounted upon said core having their side surfaces in contact, said coils being composed of small corrugated strips of paper loosely Wound so as to form coils, the diameters of which are at least twenty times the width of the strip and said coils having adhesive thereon upon the side surfaces not in contact.
2. Supply roll for smoke filters comprising small corrugated strips of paper loosely wound so as to form coils, the diameter of which are at least twenty times the width of the strip, there being at least two coils mounted on a common core having their side surface in contact, said coils having adhesive thereon upon the side surfaces not in contact.
