Description

June 29, 1937. w. c. RAST SHIPPING PACKAGE Filed Feb. 19, 1936 Patented June 29, 1937 '9 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
The invention relates to improvements in shipping packages and has for its primary object the provision of an improved arrangement of the character indicated so constructed and arranged as to facilitate the shipment of containers in the form of glass bottles, or the like.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an improved arrangement of the character indicated so constructed and arranged that the shipping element may also be utilized as a foot bath pan for application of the medicinal preparation contained in the bottle to the feet.-
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
I The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which Fig. 1 is a top plan view of a shipping package embodying the invention;
Fig. 2 a longitudinal section of the same;
Fig. 3 a transverse section of the same; and
Fig. 4 a perspective view showing the outer pan of the shipping package in use for foot bath purposes.
The embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawing comprises an outer metallic pan I0 having a lining consisting of two crossed strips H and I2 of corrugated board or the like arranged to extend across the bottom of the pan in superposed relation and up the sides thereof. At their upper edges the strips H and I2 are turned inwardly and downwardly to form lips l3 which contact directly with the bottle or other container 14 arranged within said lining.
By this arrangement a shipping package is provided whereby a container in the form of a bottle filled with a liquid such as a medicine for foot bath purposes may be readily packed and shipped and the outer pan [0 afterwards utilized for foot bath purposes for using the medicine contained within the bottle, as indicated in Fig. 4. 5
As will be noted, the upper edges of each of the lining strips II and I2 are turned inwardly and downwardly to form the retaining lips I3 which contact with the sides and ends of the bottle, thereby retaining the same in place and also I tend to compensate for the flair of the pan Ill. The specific form and arrangement of parts is a simple and effective one for the purpose.
While I have illustrated and described a pre-- ferred form of construction for carrying my in- 15 vention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I therefore do not wish to be limited to the precise details disclosed but desire to avail myself of such variations and 20 modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A shipping package comprising a pan; a lining comprising two crossed strips extending 25 across the bottom and up the sides of said pan, the upper edges of each strip being turned inwardly and downwardly to form a retaining lip; and a bottle fitting within said lining.
2. A shipping package comprising a pan adapt- 30 ed and arranged to serve as a foot bath; a lining comprising two crossed strips extending across the bottom and up the sides of said pan, the upper edges of each strip being turned inwardly and downwardly to form a retaining lip; and a bottle 35 fitting within said lining.
