ATTORNEY.
Patented Apr. 13, 1937 UNITED STT ATENT OFFICE t Charlotte Huber, New or l;, N."Y Application May 4, 1936, seriainblwasi One object of this invention is to provide'a cleaningdevice: comprising a combination scrubber'adapted for use in washing windows, dishes, and for. all other purposes for which such a de- "5 ,vioeecancbe used.
TheyaboVe andother objects will become apparentin the description below, in which characters of reference refer to like-named parts in the accompanying drawing.
10 Referring briefly to the drawing; Figure l is a plan View of the device.
Figure 2 is a front view of the same.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the device with the clot-h removed.
15 Figure 4 is a front view of the device with cloth shown in elevated position to permit the device to be used as a brush.
Figure 5 is a cross-sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 2.
20 Figure 6 is a view showing the device with its two sections detached, illustrating the manner in which the cloth is wrung out.
Figure '7 is a View showing a small-sized brush adapted to have this invention applied thereto.
25 Figure 8 is a view of the cloth per se prior to its application to the device.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral l comprises a cylindrical post split into two complementary sections H and I2. A ring 30 I3 of any desirable material is slidably mounted on the post l0 and serves to keep the two sections II and I2 locked together. This ring I3 is provided with an eyelet [4 through which a string I is looped, and a hook it on the top of the sections I2 suspends the cord 15 therefrom.
1 At the base of the post Hi, the'sections II and I2 are provided with rigid complementary semicylindrical sections l1 and I8. Each section I! and I8 is provided with brush bristles H9. The
upper surface of the section I1 is provided with three eyelets 20 spaced apart along the periphery thereof. The section i8 is similarly provided with a single eyelet 2| similar to the eyelets 2U.
Eyelets 22, larger in size than the eyelets 2G and 2| or oval in form, are provided at opposite ends of the section I8. A semi-circular member 23 of resilient wire-like material, is adapted to be supported in the eyelets 20, as shown in Figure 3.
50 Similarly, a member 24 is adapted to be supported between the outer edges of the eyelets 22 and to pass through the eyelet 2!. A second semi-circular member 25 is adapted to be supported between the inner edges of the eyelets 55 22 and is provided at one end with a nose 26.
: Thevcloth 2'! which is adapted to be mounted on the device, comprises a rectangular sheet having a notch 23 cut in one end. Its other. end is slitted longitudinally to form two side flaps 2 9. and 30. Both ends of the cloth 21 are hemmed 5 to provide channels 3|, 32, 33,v and 34 along the edges. i
The cloth is app-lied to the device by first threading the member? 23. through the channel 33 of the cloth, passing the member 23 through the center eyelet 23, threading the member 23 through the channel 34 of the cloth, and then inserting the ends of member 23 in the end eyelets 20. Then the cloth is drawn around the bottom of the brush I9, and the two flaps 29 and 30 are then drawn up around the opposite edge of the upper surface of the section IS. The flap 23 is brought around the top of one end of the member 24, and the flap 30 is brought around under the other end of the same memher. The member is then threaded through the channels 3| and 32 of the cloth and the ends of member 25 are then inserted in the eyelets 22 to lock the cloth on the device, as is obvious. The purposes of having the two wire-like mem- 5 bers 24 and 25 on the one side of the brush body, is that the cloth 2? will stretch through continued use, so that it would hang too loosely about the brush if but the one member 24 were provided. As the cloth thus becomes longer after repeated use, the excess length or slack may be tucked in and clamped between the members 24 and 25, as well as between the member 25 and the top surface of the brush body. A loop or band 33 of any desirable material is wound 35 around the cloth 2'! intermediate its length.
In Figure '7 is illustrated a small-sized brush 36 split into two sections 31 and 38 and adapted to have the structure embodied in this invention provided thereon.
The device may be used to clean windows or other articles with the various parts arranged as shown in Figure 2. In order to use the device as a brush, the cloth 2'4, which, as shown in Figure 2, hangs loosely from the device, is grasped intermediate its length and turned up one side of the device. The loop 35 is then suspended from the hook I3 so that the cloth 2! is held clear above the brush. In Figure 2 the loop 35 is not shown because it is buried in the folds of the cloth 2?. To wring out the cloth, the ring I3 is slipped off the top'of the post Ill and the two sections are separated, as shown in Figure 6.
The advantages and uses of the device described are apparent. Obviously, modifications in form and structure, as well as modifications in the materials used for the various elements 5 set forth, may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I claim:
1. In an attachment for a brush split into complementary half sections each having a handle post portion and a brush body portion, a removable ring on said post portions adapted to lock said sections together, a hook on one of said post portions, eyelets arranged around the upper periphery of said body portions, a wirelike arcuate member removably mounted in said eyelets on each of said body portions, a third arcuate wire-like member removably mounted adjacent one of said first-named wire-like members, a cloth having a band intermediate its length and adapted to be passed around the bottom of said brush body or to be suspended above said brush body by engaging said band with said hook, said cloth having its end hemmed to form channels in its edges and being secured to said body by passing one of said first-named wirelike members through said channels on one end of the cloth, by then passing the other end of said cloth around the other of said first-named wire-like members, and finally passing said third wire-like member through said channels at said other end of the cloth, and clamping the excess length of said cloth between said last-mentioned two wire-like members.
2. In an attachment for a brush split into complementary half sections each having a handle post portion and a brush body portion, a removable ring on said post portions adapt e c 1 to lock said sections together, a hook on one of said post portions, eyelets arranged around the upper periphery of said body portions, a wirelike arcuate member removably mounted in said eyelets on each of said body portions, a third arcuate wire-like member removably mounted adjacent one of said fir'stmamed wire-like members, a cloth adapted to be passed around the bottom of said brush body, said cloth having its ends hemmed to form channels in its edges, said cloth being secured to said body by passing one of said first-named wire-like named members through said channels on one end of the cloth, by then passing the other end of said cloth around the other of said first-named wire-like member, and finally passing said third wire-like member through said channels at said other end of the cloth, and clamping the excess length of said cloth between said last-mentioned two wirelike members.
