AGITATOR FOR STQKER H OPPERS Filed March 19, 1934 Patented Apr. 13, 1937 PATENT OFF].
AGITATOR FOR STOKER HOPPERS Ole Alonzo Larsen,
Application March 19,
2 Claims.
My invention relates to stokers and has for its object to provide a new and efficient device for loosening the coal when it has become arched in the hopper.
A further object is to provide an inexpensive spring device for breaking down and releasing arched fuel in stoker hoppers with the spring actuated constantly with each rotation of the feed screw.
A still further object is to manufacture a spring wire device for loosening arched coal in stoker hoppers by each revolution of the feed screw actuating the spring and in that way moving parts of the coal to loosen arched coal.
These objects I accomplish with the device illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which similar numerals and letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views longitudinally of the hopper, cross bars across the hopper to engage the screw and vertical agitators reaching up into the coal in the hopper.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the same agitator.
In the drawing the hopper is shown as A, the screw as B. a
In Figure 1 a horizontal type of agitator 56 is provided with vertical bars or rods or springs or coils 5| secured thereto to keep the coal agitated. These vertical rods may be supplied with coil agitators.
Salt Lake City, Utah 1934, Serial No. 716,339
The operation of the invention is obvious. As the feed screw B rotates, the edge of each convolution of the screw which is adjacent one of the cross bars 52 will engage the bar and force it forward and upward at the same time, until the spring bars 59 have been flexed and the peak of the turn of the screw has been reached, at which time the bars and the rest of the agitator will be returned to the original or starting position. With each upward movement of the agitator the bars 5i will be moved endways of the hopper and will prevent any arching of the coal therein.
Having thus described my invention, I desire to secure by Letters Patent and claims:-
1. In a coal agitator for stokers, the combination of a coal hopper having a feed screw passing through the narrow bottom end thereof; an agitator mounted to the side walls of the hopper near the screw with horizontal longitudinal bars running along the sides of the hop-per; cross bars secured to the horizontal bars extending across the hopper below the top level of the feed screw; and vertically extended means extending above said horizontal bars into the coal in the hopper to agitate the coal and prevent arching thereof.
2. In a coal stoker agitator, the combination of a coal hopper having a feed screw passing through the narrow bottom thereof; an agitator mounted to the two side walls of the hopper adjacent and slightly above the level of the axis of the feed screw, consisting of two horizontal bars turned up on the ends where they are movably secured and having cross bars connecting the bars together, said cross bars being below the level of the top of the feed screw to engage the screw with each revolution thereof; and vertically extended agitator bars mounted above the cross bars extending upward from said cross 'bars and connected together, the vertical agitator to be moved upwardly and from end to end by the movement of the cross bars substantially as described.
OLE ALONZO LARSEN.
