This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in the spinning rings holder for bar travelers employed in connection with spinning machines.
One of its objects is to so designand construct the holder as to detachably and eifectually retain the spinning ring in a fixed level running position and in concentric relation to the inner bearing flange on the rign-holder at all times.
Another object of the inventionis to provide a novel holder for fiber spinning rings having reliable and inexpensive retaining means for automatically compensating for any shrinkage of the ring and constantly urging the ring at all points of its circumference to seek a. level position, all for purpose of assuring the maintenance of the ring in its proper running position and forming a true and even bearing for the bar traveler. k
A further objectis the provision of a combined holder and spinning ring structurewhich is so constructed as to provide an edge and backing support'for the bar traveler for facilitating the starting of the traveler on an empty spool and at the same time minimizing the stress or tension on the thread under such conditions.

In spinning machines of the character to which my invention is particularly applicable, the threads are delivered by feed rolls (not shown) to a take-up spool Ill and traversing the same is a vertically-reciprocating bar ll; Mounted on this bar and surrounding the take-up spool is a supporting member or holder l2 of substantially ring-like form which is fitted in an opening I3 in the .bar and securely'held thereto by a set screw I l. .Applied to' this holder is the spinning or'tr-averse ring l5 upon which the bar traveler I6. is adapted to revolve. In the example shown, the spinning ring is made of-a fiber composition or like material having a depending attaching rim or flange H at its outer side.
Rising from the holder-body [2 about its central opening is an an'nul-arfiange or guide member l8 which constitutes a support for the bar traveler I6 and which may be detachable from the body and have a snug fit with a correspondingly shaped socket I9- formed in such body. Preferably formed integrally with the holder body and rising therefrom in spaced, concentric relation with the traveler supporting flange [8, is an outer annular flange 20 which is provided adjacent its lower end with an internal seat or shoulder 2|. The spinning ring is removably fitted within the outer flange in spaced relation to the inner flange l8 and has itsattaching rim. ll normally in bearing. contact with the inner wall of such flange while the lower edge of said rim fits snugly against the seat 2| to support the spinning ring in a level or true running position. For the purpose of detachably holding the spinning ring 15 in its operative running position within the holder, I provide a means which not only exerts a uniform pressure on the top side of the spinning ring to retain it in a level posi tion, but which alsoserves to center the spinning ring within the holder should it contract and be removed from contiguous contact with the inner wall of the annular flange 20. To this end, I provide a clamping member preferably in the form of a split ring or resilient band 22 which'is adapted to be detachably fitted within the annular flange 20 for bearing contact with the top side of the spinning ring. In its inner side and spaced above the ring-seat 2!, this outer'flange has a substantially v-shaped groove or notch' 23 with which the clamping ring is adapted to interlock to prevent its vertical displacement from the holder. The top side of the spinning ring preferably terminates 'substantiallyat or intersects this notch and the upper or outwardlyslo-ping wall 24 of the latter allows for the expansion and downward movement of such ring 22 should the spinning ring I5, for example, shrink or contract and free itself from contact with the holder flange 20. Should this occur, then the clamping ring 22 will be automatically forced downwardly in guiding contact with the sloping wall 24 of the notch 23, maintaining its centering contact with the spinning ring and retaining the latter in concentric relation with the inner flange I 8 of the holder-body and axially of the bobbin. In Figure 3, I have shown by dotted lines a contraction of the spinning ring and it will be noted that the clamping ring 22 abuts at its upper or outer side against the notch-wall 24, while its lower or inner side abuts against the adjoining corner of the spinning ring and thereby forms a rigid retaining means for maintaining the spinning ring in its proper concentric relation with the inner flange N! as well as in a level or true horizontal position to assure a smooth and even running of the traveler bar. 7
For the purpose of minimizing the stress or tension on the thread when the thread is first started on the barrel of an empty spool or bobbin and to properly support the traveler l6 during this time, the cross bar of the traveler is adapted for supporting overhanging engagement with theupper edge 25 of the inner flange 18 of the holder-body l2. As shown in Figures 2 and 3, the inner flange extends sumciently above the plane of the spinning ring I 5 to thus support the traveler with its bearing arms 26 in contact with the underside of the spinning ring. In order to present a further support or proper backing for the traveler when starting on an empty spool, the inner flange I8 is provided, immediately adjoining its upper edge, with a straight or upright external portion or face 21 against which the depending legs 28 of the bar traveler are adapted to abut while the cross or threadengaging bar of the traveler at the junction of its legs is overhanging the top edge of said flange I8. As clearly shown in Figure 3, the concentric space between the external face of the holderflange l8 and the opposing inner bearing face of the traverse ring I is such as to freely receive the legs of the bar traveler IS in the manner depicted, these companion faces constituting vertically-spaced opposing bearing walls for the traveler-legs to properly support the traveler when starting on an empty spool.
I claim as my invention:
1. A device of the character described, comprising a supporting member containing a central opening through which a take-up spool is adapted to extend and having an annular flange rising therefrom about said opening, a spinning ring for a bar traveler mounted on said supporting member in concentric relation to and below the plane of the top edge of said flange, and a bar traveler having a cross bar and depending legs terminating in bearing arms for engagement with the underside of said spinning ring, the cross bar of the traveler at the junction of its depending legs being engageable with the top edge of said annular flange and the legs thereof being engageable adjacent their upper and lower ends with the companion concentric portions of said flange and ring, respectively.
2. A device of the character described, comprising a supporting member containing a central opening through which a take-up spool is adapted to extend, a spinning ring for a bar traveler mounted on said supporting member, and an annular guide member rising from the supporting member through said spinning ring and extending above the plane thereof, the top edge of the guide member being spaced vertically from the bottom edge of the spinning ring a distance substantially equal to that between the cross bar and. bearing arms of the traveler, the top edge of said guide member constituting a support for the thread-engaging bar of the traveler and its outer peripheral surface adjoining said top edge being substantially vertical and constituting a backing support for the inner sides of the upper ends of the depending legs of the traveler, the inner peripheral surface of the ring constituting a backing support for the outer sides of the lower ends of traveler-legs.
3. A device of the character described, comprising a supporting member containing a central opening through which a take-up spool is adapted to extend and having an annular flange rising therefrom about said opening, the outer S peripheral surface of said flange adjoining its in bearing contact therewith and the travelerlegs being adapted to abut at their upper ends against the contiguous vertical surface of such flange and at their lower ends against the spinning ring.
4. A device of the character described, comprising a holder containing a central opening through which a take-up spool is adapted to extend and an annular flange disposed concentrically with and outwardly of said opening and having an upwardly facing seat adjacent its lower end, a spinning ring engaging said seat with its inner periphery in spaced concentric relation to said flange, and means detachably fitted within said annular flange and in bearing contact with said spinning ring for exerting a uniform pressure thereon about its circumference to maintain said ring in a level position concentrically of the holder.
5. A device of the character described, comprising a holder containing a central opening through which a take-up spool is adapted to extend and an annular flange having a seat for a spinning ring and an annular groove in its inner wall above said seat, a spinning ring engaging said seat and having its top side terminating substantially at said groove, the inner periphery of said ring being concentrically spaced from said flange, and a detachable clamping element fitted in said groove in bearing contact with the spinning ring for retaining it against its seat in a level position.
6. A device of the character described, comprising a holder containing a central opening through which a take-up spool is adapted to extend and an annular flange having a seat for a spinning ring and an annular groove in its inner wall above said seat, a spinning ring engaging said seat and having its top side terminating substantially at said groove, the inner periphery of said ring being below the top edge of and concentrically spaced from said flange, and a detachable clamping element fitted in said groove in bearing contact with the spinning ring for retaining it against its seat in a level position, said groove including an outwardly sloping wall for guiding the clamping element in a direction to constantly maintain the spinning ring in concentric relation with the spool-opening.
'7. A device of the character described, comprising a holder containing a central opening through which a take-up spool is adapted to extend and an annular flange having a seat for a spinning ring and an annular groove in its inner wall above said seat, said groove being substantially V-shaped in cross section, a spinning ring engaging said seat and having its top side terminating substantially at said groove, and a split clamping ring fitted in said groove in bearing contact with the spinning ring for retaining it against its seat in a level position and in concentric relation With the spool-opening.
8. A holder for the spinning rings of spinning machines, comprising a ring-like body having spaced inner and outer concentric flanges rising therefrom, the outer flange having a seat for the spinning ring and an annular groove above the same for receiving a clamping ring to retain the spinning ring against said seat in a level position, the inner flange extending above the plane of the spinning ring and its top edge constituting a bearing support for a bar traveler.
