The receivers 10 are hollowed out at 8| on adjacent inner faces and have inwardly extending side ilanges such as 82 and a lower flange 84 (see Fig. 5). Grooves 86 extend inwardly from the sides of the receiver on the adjacent inner faces thereof and are connected to a vertically extending groove 88 in the upper part of the receiver which is in alignment with a groove 90 in the lower part thereof. Enlarged recesses 92 are associated with the grooves 6K6 and 88, as shown.
Lock members |48 shown in Figs.` 3 and4 are associated with each receiver. These'have studs |82 adjacent their upper sides which are journalled in the receivers 18 so they may oscillate betweenthe neutral inoperative and operative positions shown in Figs. 5 and 6. In describing the operation of the wringer it will be assumed that the upper roll frame |20 has been removed from the wringer and that the parts are in the relative position shown in Fig. 5.
To operate the wringer the operator grasps upper roll frame |20 and swings it so that projections |28 and 130 are inserted in slots 86 of the receivers. Then it is swung to an upright position, the projections |28 and |30 passing downwardly relative to slots 88, |06 and 90. The
roll |26 comes to rest on the lower roll 60' with the projections |28 of the frame in slots 90 of the receivers and projections |30 of the frame are in slots |06 of the locks |00. This is the neutral position of the upper roll frame The frame 120 may now be swung to an operative position such as shown in Fig. 8 and releasably locked in said position simultaneously engaging the driving mechanism. To do this' the operator may grasp the frame |20 and swing it and it may be swung in either direction and cause the frame |20 and its upper roll to be releasably locked in operative position and cause the lower roll to be driven. As the frame is swung the locks |00 are swung thereby and the lock |00 at the head end of the wringer having pin |04 in forked upper end of member 50 oscillates said member which in turn oscillates gear shifting member 24.
As the locks are swung by swinging of frame |-20 the lower ends |40 of the locks ride on or pass on the lower projections |28 of frame |20 which locks hold the frame in the wringer. Then when an object is passed between the rolls the springs associated with the receivers resist the separation of the rolls.
The lower edges |40 of the locks |00 are preferably eccentrically disposed relative to their axis of oscillation. With the upper roll bearing on the lower roll and as frame |20 is swung to an operating position, the eccentricity functions to gradually elevate the receivers against the springs and therefore gradually subject the upper roll to the tension of the springs. This is desirable as a'minimuin of eifort only is required to set the parts in operativecrelation.
- With the frame |28 and its roll releasably locked in operative position, material may be passed between the rolls. The upper roll resists upward movements due to the springs 80 to bring about the wringing action. In case it is desired to release the upper roll, the frame |20 need only be moved from such an angular operative position as is'shown in Fig. 8 to its neutral position centrally above the rolls. This is easily accomplished by the operator who merely swings the frame |20. As the'frame |28 is swung from an operative position'such as shown in Fig. 8 to an inoperative, neutral position, the upper projections |88 of the frame in 'slots |86 of locks |00 swings said locks to their neutral position 'which releases Ythe frame |20 and moves thel shifter l0 to its neutral position throwing the y gears out-of engagement.
- When the parts are in this neutral inoperative position, the frame |20 may be' moved upwardly because the projections |28 and |88 of the frame amers when released. To prevent the frame from being thrown from the wringen/the upper projections l |30 of the frame abut the upper side of the recesses 92 of the receivers and above the slots $8 thereof. In any event, however, when the frame is released the rolls are separable sumciently to permit the withdrawal of anything ltherebetween. When it is desired' to remove the frame from the wringer it is moved upwardly and then tipped to the dot-dash position shown in Fig. 6 so that it maybe drawn sideways from the receivers.
A drainboard I Il is pivoted at |52 to the head 2 and end frame 'l for' tilting movements and it has an upstanding part l" on its one end adjacent the head which is recessed at; .-IIO to recelve the pin Il oi' the shifter 50. As the shifter oscillates the pin therefor acting in the recess I" causes the drain board to be tilted.
Where -it is desired to provide a wringer whereinthe locking of the frame in the wringer does not necessarily engage the driving mechanism there may be an operating handle Ill iixed to oscillatable shifting part 24 which extends through an angularly disposed slot |38 ,of head 2. As the handle is oscillated the part `24 is reciprocated to engage the gears.
With this arrangement the frame may be tilted with one hand and handle |36 may be oscillated with the other. These may be operated simultaneously or at different times as may be desired.
While I have described the invention in great detail and with respect to a preferred form thereof, it is not desired to be limited thereto since many changes and modincations may be made therein without departing from the spirit andiscope of the invention. What it is desired to claim and secure by Letters Patent of the United States is: f\

A wringer comprising. in "combination, 'a main trame havinga roll therein, receivers resiliently mounted for movements in opposite directions in said main frame, a separate frame unit having a roll therein and parts receivable in said receivers, locks movabiy mounted on said receivers engageableand movable by said separate frame unit torele'asably lock said iframe unit to the receivers with said rolls in operative relation, and driving mechanism for one of said rolls having a part movable by said separate frame adapted to connect and disconnect said' driving j mechanism.

main frame having a roll`therein, a separate frame having a roll therein, receivers resiliently mounted on the main frame, the said receivers and separate frame being provided with interengaging parts for producing pressure between the rolls whereby thev said separate frame may 'be inserted in the 'receivers and swung beween operative and inoperative positions thereof, .and
movable members on said receivers engageableV by said separate frame and operable thereby as it swings to operative position to releasably lock said separate' frame to the receivers with the said rolls in operative contact. f Y

A wringer comprising in combination, a main frame having a. roll therein, a separateframe having a roll therein. receivers resiliently 'iently mounted wherein, and a separate frame Vha vingw .xa f-roll K therein provided with projections forslidiri'g in mounted on the main frame, the said receivers and separate frame being provided with interengagins parts for producing pressure between the rolls whereby the said separate frame mayy be. inserted in the receivers and swung 4between operative and inoperative positions thereof, .movable members on said receivers engageable by .saidseparate frame and operable thereby as it swings tol operative position to` reieasably' lock said separate frame to the receivers with the said rolls in operative contact, driving means having a shiftable member to engage and disengage said means, and connections between said separate frame and shiitable memberwhereby the latter is actuated by the former as it swings;

A wringer comprising in combination, a main frame and a separate frame having coacting rolls rotatable therein, 4receivers resiliently mounted onl said main frame, said receivers and' separate frame having engageable parts whereby the latter may be inserted in and withdrawn from the former, locking means movably mounted on said receivers movable between operative and inoperative positions, parts on said separate fram'e engageable by said locking means whereby the separate frame may be releasably locked to said receivers, an means associated with said separate frame and locking means whereby the latter may be actuated by' the former.
5. A wringer comprising in combination, a main frame and a separate frameuf-lhaving coacting rollsrotatable therein, receivers resili-v entlymounted on said main frame, said receiv-y ers and separate frame having engageableparts whereby the latter may be inserted in vand withdrawn from the former, locking means movably mounted on' said separate frame movable between operative and. inopertivev positions, parts on said separate-frame endageable by 'said locking means'wh'ereby the separate frame may be releasably locked to said rceivers, y means associated with said separate' frame and locking means whereby the latter n'iay be, actuated by the former, and driving connections for-'said rolls having a. shiftable engaging and disengaging part operable by said locking means;

A wringer comprising in combination, a main frame having a roll therein, receivers resiliently mounted on said frame having grooves therein, and a separate frame having a roll therein provided with projections for sliding in said grooves whereby the frame may be inserted in and withdrawn from said receivers and swingable therein, locks mounted on said receivers for movements between operative and inoperative positions having grooves to receive certain of said projections and adapted to engage other of said projections, the grooves in said receivers being arranged whereby the separate frame assumes a position .when 'entering the grooves which is angular to its positionl when inserted wholly in said grooves, .all adapted and arranged whereby as the vseparate frame swings said locks are actuated thereby to lock the frame to said receivers. v

A wringer comprising in combination, a main frame having a roll therein, receivers and springs mounted in the frame, an upper separate frame receivable in said receivers having an upper roll and being movable in said receivers between operative and inoperative positions, locks movable in said receivers between-locking and non-locking positions and operable by the frame as it swings, and adapted to gradually subject the upper frame to the action of the spring mounted receivers as they move from non-locking to locking positions.
10. A wringer comprising in combination, a main frame having a lower roll therein, receivers in said frame, springs associated with said receivers and frame whereby said receivers are spring tensioned against movement, an upper roll frame receivable in said receivers, locks oscillatable on said receivers for swinging between locking and non-locking positions and adapted to engage and lock said frame to the receivers. and being formed to gradually bear on said upper roll frame whereby it is gradually placed under the inuence of the springs 'as it is locked to the receivers.
11. A wringer comprising in combination, a
main frame having a lower lroll therein, re-v ceivers in said frame, springs associated with said receivers and trame whereby said receivers are spring tensioned against' movement, an' upper roll frame receivable in said receivers, locks oscillatable on said receivers for swinging between locking and non-locking positions and adaptedto engage and lock said frame to the receivers and being formed to gradually bear on said frame whereby-it is gradually placed under the influence oi' the springs as it is locked to the receivers, and means associated with said frame and locks whereby the locks are operated by the frame.

A wringer comprising in combination, a main frame having a rotatable roll therein, spring-pressed receivers mounted in said main frame, a separate frame receivable in said receivers carrying a rotatable roll and swingable therein between operative 'andinoperative positions, locks pivoted for swinging movements to releasably lock the separate frame to the receivers and operable thereby, driving connections including an oscillatable shiftable mem- 'ber for engaging and disengaging the same, and means for actuating said shiitable member by movement of one of said locks, the said locks having a stud rotatable in said receivers and means associated with said locks and receivers retaining the said locks in swingable relation.
