This invention relates to improvements in auxiliary bands applicable to clothes presses for steaming, brushing and stretching materials such as velvet, and light woolen goods. More particularly the invention relates to a band that may be applied about the pressing board or buck of the machine and on which band aredevices by which the piece to be steamed, brushed -or stretched may be held in place for the work thereon.

More specifically stated, the present invention relates to a band that may be removably applied about the press board and secured in place, and which band is equipped along an edge thereof with a plurality of closely located hooks, upwardly pointed, over which the piece to be worked on may be applied to hold it in place for the operation, and from which hooks it may be readily removed without injury.

Other objects of the invention reside in the details of construction, the mode of application and use of the device, as will hereinafter be described.

In accomplishing these and other objects of 5 the invention, I have provided the improved details of construction, the preferred forms of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein- Fig. 1 is a perspective view, illustrating a band 30 made in accordance with the present invention,

as functionally applied to a press.

Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view, through the press board, illustrating the application and means of securing the band in place.

Fig. 3 is a view of the band removed from the board.

Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail illustrating in perspective the mounting of the hooks in the band.

Referring more in detail to the drawing- I designates what may be the lower board, or buck, of an ordinary type of clothes pressing machine, which board has a canvas or cloth covering 2 across which the articles to be steamed, brushed, pressed or stretched may be placed.

Explanatory to the invention, it will be stated that in these types of clothes pressing machines, provision is made whereby steam may be discharged through the covering for the steaming of the article that is placed thereover.

The band embodied by the present invention comprises a flat strip of canvas 3, or other suitable material, preierably of a plurality of layers, and of a length at least suflicient to extend across the top of the board and across the edges, and 55 preferably longer and adapted to be applied to the buck, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The band is provided at one end with an eyelet or grommet 5 in which: one end portion of a coiled spring '6 vis hooked. The opposite end of the spring 6 is provided with a hook member 8 adapted to be applied to any one of a plurality of eyelets or grommets 9 that are located at spaced intervals in the opposite end of the band; thus, with the band applied to the board, the spring may be placed under tension to draw the band tight and to hold it in place about the board.

' Attached to that part of the band which directly overlies the buck is a web IU .of triangular form, the base of which is sewed onto the band, and the point is extended toward the end of the buck and provided at its outer end with a grommet l2 in which a link [3 is applied and to which link a pair of hooks l4 and M are attached. These hooks may have their ends applied within the canvas covering of the buck to secure that end of the web and thereby sustain strain on the band when tension is applied thereto in its natural use. Along the edge of the band, opposite that to which the web is attached, is a plurality of upwardly pointed hooks I5. These hooks are placed in close relation and are so arranged that a piece of material such as velvet, wool or the like, when placed thereon and pressed down against the band, will be securely held in place.

In Fig. 4, I have illustrated in detail, the form of hook used and the manner in which the hooks are attached tothe band. The hooks are arranged in pairs; each pair comprising a single wire bent in the form of a U-shaped loop which loop is disposed between layers of the band and is secured by the stitching which holds the layers together. The ends of the loop are turned upward and slightly inclined toward the direction of attachment of the hooks l4 and are pointed for easy application of the goods thereto.

In using the device, the band 3 is applied about the pressing buck as illustrated, and is held under tension by the pull or the spring 6. The hooks l4 are then embedded in the covering of the buck to sustain the pull of. the material being worked The material to be steamed, brushed, stretched or pressed, is placed with one edge overlying the row of upwardly directed hooks, and is pressed down against the hooks to embed them therein, and is drawn tight by pull in a direction away from the band. Steam may then be applied to the goods through the pressing board and, as it issues through the material, the latter is brushed,

stretched or worked in any other manner desired.

If it should be thought desirable, the under side of the band 3 could be partially or entirely lined with a rubber covered material to give additional holding traction of the band 3 against the board.

Bands of this kind are readily and easily applicable to the ordinary kinds of clothes presses and serve to hold the goods worked on evenly and securely to avoid any possible scalloping that is usually experienced when the goods is merely pinned to the buck covering. The hooks are very close together, small and sharp, and thus do not cause any damage to the goods placed thereover.

It is understood that details of construction might be varied without departing from the spirit of the invention, and therefore I do not desire that the claims should be confined to the details herein illustrated.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim-as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A device of the character described, comprising a flexible band adapted to be applied about a pressing board of the character disclosed, means associated with the band for joining its ends across the under side of the board to hold it tightly secured about the board; said band comprising a plurality 'of layers, and hook devices arranged in the band in close mlation along that part across the top of the board, and against which devices a piece of material to be worked on may be removably applied and held for the work to be done thereon; said hook devices having shank portions anchored between the layers of material constituting the band.

A device of the character described comprising a flexible band made up of a plurality of layers of fabric, or the like, stitched together and adapted to be applied about a pressing board, means associated with the band for joining its ends across the under side of. the board to hold the band taut, and hook devices arranged in the band in close relation along one edge of that part overlying the board and against which hook devices a piece of material to be'worked on may be removably applied and held for the work to be done thereon; said hook devices being formed in pairs, each pair having a connecting loop inserted between layers of fabric of the band and held by stitching which joins the layers of fabric.

3.,A device of the character described, comprising a flexible band of canvas or the like,

having'a. series .of holes along one end portion thereof and adapted to be drawn about a pressing board, and across the working side thereof, a tension spring element having one end attached to that end of the band opposite that provided with the series of holes and provided at its other of the band across the top of the board for application thereto of the material to be worked on.

*4. A device. as recited in claim 3 wherein the band has an anchor web fixed thereto and equipped with means forzattachment to the board covering to sustain pull of the material applied to theband through the mediacy of the hooks.
