JONATHAN P. COLE, OF HARTFORD, (ENGLISH P. O.,) INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN HOG-CHOLERA COMPOUNDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 206,863, dated August 13, 1878; application filcd July 1, 1878.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JONATHAN P. COLE, of Hartford, (English P. O.,) in the county of Crawford and State of Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Medical Compound for the Cure of Hog-Cholera, of which the following is a specification:
The object of this invention is to furnish a compound which shall be a useful remedy for the treatment of hog-cholera; and it consists in the combination of the Various ingredients in the proportions specified, viz: Bicarbonate of soda, two drains, lime, one pound; dry wood ashes, one pound; concentrated lye, four drams; asafetida, four drams; common soap, two pounds; sulphur, powdered, one dram.
The above ingredients are compounded by reducing to a powder and mixing, and are then placed in suitable packages for the user.
To administer the medicine to the hog it is only necessary to mix the dose (which consists of one ounce given twice a day) with the food.
When the hog refuses to take the medicine mixed with its food it will be found necessary to forcibly administer the compound in solution by the ordinary method of drenching.
I am aware that potash, sulphur, and asafetida have before been combined in a medical compound, as shown by Patent No. 180,012; but such I do not desire to broadly claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, 1s-
The herein-described compound for the treatment of hog-cholera, composed of bicarbonate of soda, lime, wood ashes, concentrated lye, asafetida, soap, and sulphur, in about the proportions specified.
